If you don't like the product, don't buy it. Nobody is forcing you. Seems a lot of people think they have to buy this and are genuinely angry it exists.
This is a forum to discuss Apple products d services. People are allowed to express an opinion here. Saying "if you don't like it, don't buy it" is infantile and no more helpful than saying "if you like it, just buy it.".
If you don't like to hear any discussion or criticism of your beloved trillion dollar corporation then don't go browsing Apple forums.

I was just watching the Video and other than new Chip and some seamless new threads in Midnight (not sure if that is really new) it seems the same basic thing. odd. I was hoping if there was an update it would be SOMETHING else a bit more
For $300, it still needs a non-proprietary audio input method.

And maybe better controls, trying to find a + and - on a circle is impossibly difficult. At least you can always ask Siri - oh wait, she's worse than useless too.

I don't even use mine as smart speakers much. Mostly use them convenient wireless tv speakers that also play music usually from the iPhone that I once awhile move to a different room for a special occasion.

...but maybe that's a smart speaker.
100% the same! my Kitchen one is basically a glorified timer with occasional speaker from my phone while cooking. Lounge ones are a stereo pair for my projector (just sounds more natural coming from actual projector screen and not the projector behind, which does have amazing speakers incorporated) My bedroom one is a glorified alarm clock... TBH I also have them all on smart power sockets, that when home I turn them all off as they make terrible home hubs! whenever I have unresponsive devices (have a total of 180) its always due to one of the Minis being used as the home hub. When Apple TV is the hub I have zero issues! but maybe just my setup.

The new HomePod has 4 microphones and 5 tweeters.

The original HomePod had 6 microphones and 7 tweeters.

New one weighs 5.1 pounds vs. 5.5 pounds previously.
I’d like to believe that Apple realized they shouldn’t have canceled the product in the first place, but someone probably just wanted to build them cheaper & market it as a new product. Oh, Apple… 😒

So it’s exactly the same but with an updated chip? No removable power cord? No aux input? Wut?

Did I miss something?
Yeah, this makes no sense to me. "Discontinue" then release a revised version with the only change probably being better margins. What's in it for the customer? I'm not complaining exactly, but I fail to see the value proposition at $300 price point.

Love it! I still have my 1st HomePod in white and would be in to add a 2nd one in black.

Anybody knows if the 1st gen will be able to pair with 2nd gen for stereo pair?
Per specs page:
  1. Creating a HomePod stereo pair requires two of the same model HomePod speakers, such as two HomePod mini, two HomePod (2nd generation), or two HomePod (1st generation).

Unexpwcted.

Midnight though? This color inconsistency os driving me nuts. Can’t market to us OCD folks and not offer products on all the color options...

You want me to spend all the money to kit out my whole house Apple? Then Space Gray AND Midnight for all products plz

Just got off with chat support. No pairing of gen 1 and gen 2 for stereo playback.

This is wonderful news. But I'm curious why it can't pair with a gen 1 HomePod. Also they really should make a version with a screen.

I always wonder when they do these ads do the actors know what they're promoting.

"Hey all, just dance around - we can't tell you what ad you're in but here's a couple of hundred to keep quiet about it!"

As for price, still too high at $399 Canadian. Come on Tim, what have you got against Canada? Did you get traumatized by a moose or beaver as a kid?

It is high, but Apple generally just uses the exchange rate to determine Canadian pricing (there might be a few rare exceptions).

Does anyone know if the updated HomePod supports third party music services such as Spotify, et al. Can you airplay Spotify or other music sources to the HomePod or ask Siri (on the homepod) to load a track from a source of your choosing (e.g., Spotify)? Or are Homepods, incl. the new one, tied to Apple Music?

looks like it doesn't even support the latest wifi standard ... kinda disappointed

but that means I'll propably stick with the mini and save a lot
