Cleaning out the leftover parts. Maybe they ran out of tweeters - that's why there's only 5 instead of 7!So either apple haven’t learnt a thing or this is just planned obsolescence of the OG HomePod

This is a forum to discuss Apple products d services. People are allowed to express an opinion here. Saying "if you don't like it, don't buy it" is infantile and no more helpful than saying "if you like it, just buy it.".If you don't like the product, don't buy it. Nobody is forcing you. Seems a lot of people think they have to buy this and are genuinely angry it exists.
For $300, it still needs a non-proprietary audio input method.I was just watching the Video and other than new Chip and some seamless new threads in Midnight (not sure if that is really new) it seems the same basic thing. odd. I was hoping if there was an update it would be SOMETHING else a bit more
100% the same! my Kitchen one is basically a glorified timer with occasional speaker from my phone while cooking. Lounge ones are a stereo pair for my projector (just sounds more natural coming from actual projector screen and not the projector behind, which does have amazing speakers incorporated) My bedroom one is a glorified alarm clock... TBH I also have them all on smart power sockets, that when home I turn them all off as they make terrible home hubs! whenever I have unresponsive devices (have a total of 180) its always due to one of the Minis being used as the home hub. When Apple TV is the hub I have zero issues! but maybe just my setup.I don't even use mine as smart speakers much. Mostly use them convenient wireless tv speakers that also play music usually from the iPhone that I once awhile move to a different room for a special occasion.
...but maybe that's a smart speaker.
I’d like to believe that Apple realized they shouldn’t have canceled the product in the first place, but someone probably just wanted to build them cheaper & market it as a new product. Oh, Apple… 😒The new HomePod has 4 microphones and 5 tweeters.
The original HomePod had 6 microphones and 7 tweeters.
New one weighs 5.1 pounds vs. 5.5 pounds previously.
Yeah, this makes no sense to me. "Discontinue" then release a revised version with the only change probably being better margins. What's in it for the customer? I'm not complaining exactly, but I fail to see the value proposition at $300 price point. So it’s exactly the same but with an updated chip? No removable power cord? No aux input? Wut?
Did I miss something?
Per specs page:Love it! I still have my 1st HomePod in white and would be in to add a 2nd one in black.
Anybody knows if the 1st gen will be able to pair with 2nd gen for stereo pair?
More likely the chips they were using weren't able to handle 7 speakers, and instead of selecting different chips, they opted to remove the tweeters instead. This is Apple we're talking about here.Cleaning out the leftover parts. Maybe they ran out of tweeters - that's why there's only 5 instead of 7!
OK. Next question, why?
So Apple should sell these at $199 because you think thats all their worth. Got it.Because the first one flopped so hard you'd think they might actually price these to sell. Any other questions?
Just got off with chat support. No pairing of gen 1 and gen 2 for stereo playback.

I always wonder when they do these ads do the actors know what they're promoting.
"Hey all, just dance around - we can't tell you what ad you're in but here's a couple of hundred to keep quiet about it!"
As for price, still too high at $399 Canadian. Come on Tim, what have you got against Canada? Did you get traumatized by a moose or beaver as a kid?
Or the fact that at least 3 people, including me, posted the info from the specs here already.Or you could have read the specs.
Less tweeters. Did the original have 7?So it’s exactly the same but with an updated chip? No removable power cord? No aux input? Wut?

This wasn’t necessary. The information is already on the specs page. Giving attitude to undeserving customer service workers is out in 2023.Just got off with chat support. No pairing of gen 1 and gen 2 for stereo playback.
