And a well ment *groan* to you.

That info is nowhere!
You can only find out by adding it to the shopping cart.
And it's not normal. No Mini ever had that option to my knowledge.

It's very available. You select either Mini's configure button, and it's right there at the top of the page. Don't go complaining because you didn't try.

And I don't know if the Mini's have had CTO CPU's in the past, but nearly every other model has, so the configuration option is nothing new.

Hey sambo don't let these guys get you down man, they have some right in what they are saying but you got it right to get rid of god awful windoze and never look back. Good riddance.

Some right? Apple are charging more for the same internals as the previous gen, in a time of economic recession. Suicide. Whilst I am all for top end computers and I love the Mac platform, there will come a point when Apple have saturated the wealthy end of the market and there are none left to buy the Apple gear since they will have alienated all the other markets.

Also, as a Pro user, the new Mac Pro is a joke in terms of pricing... Where is my new FCS 3 Apple?

Also Windows.. not Windoze, is a good operating system, it is just different to OS X.

Okay just looking at the UK. I was at first really shocked by the prices until I looked at the spec's.

Yes prices have gone up if you look at the entry model, but the basic spec iMac is now faster then the old second level iMac.

The highest spec iMac is loads more, but your getting loads for your money, in the same size beautifully designed box.

Traditionally Apple offered more option to save money like giving you the option to reduce the Hard Drive size of something.

Good to see the Mini finally got updated. Bad to see it's pricing is ludicrous.

£499 for the entry level model? I built a Quad Core 2.5GHz Xeon E5420 (Harpertown, same core as the Mac Pros that have just been succeeded) Hackintosh with Seaburg MCH (same chipset as the Mac Pros that have just been succeeded), 6Gb ECC FB-DIMMs and Nvidia GeForce 9600 GT OC Edition with 512Mb DDR3 for barely more than that.

And I've got space for 7 hard drives internally, 3 x 5.25" drives AND space for a second CPU to max it out with 8 cores.

Maybe one day Apple will realise the Mini doesn't sell as well as it should because it's about £250 - £300 more than it should be.

You get loads more do you? Can you explain what I am missing because all I can see is a price jump of £400 for double the ram and 500GB extra storage.

It's in the configure page for both Mac minis.

Very strange move from Apple. Until now there always has been a difference in processor speed between to two Mini models. If one would like to get a 2.26ghz Mini now the price rizes to an incredible €930 !!!
After adding the needed extra RAM this little box will be way over a 1000 euros.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHHRRRRGGHHHHH.....

For that price you can get the faster and complete iMac.
Mr. Jobs his weight loss must be in his brains.

Graphics

Hey Everyone,
I was looking at the new iMac offerings. I was wondering, in the lower end model, I see that the graphics has been changed to the Integrated NVIDIA GeForce 9400M. Is this the same card that is in the 13' Macbooks? Just wondering if this is increase in graphics, or a step back in graphics from the previous low end model, as I am not sure what was in the previous low end model of the iMac.
Thanks. :apple:

And how much did the old iMac's cost with a 1 TB HDD and 4 gigs ram? About the price of these ones.

Yep, it's not Apple we have to blame it's Gordon the one eyed scottish moron:

:( :( :(

Welcome to the New Labour economy - bringing an end to boom and bust.

So seeing as we blame him for the fall in in £ shall we also praise him for when it was high against the $? strange enough though even when the dollar was weak against the £ apple's price's did not reflect the exchange, they still managed to lower the price of the low end macbook here so why not the mini, they didn't hike up the price of that, lets just hope they don't. It goes against what apple usually does, when they release a product it will have better but with the same price, or have a price drop with the same specs e.g. the whitebook?

Go for a mini or a macbook bro? Why not? They are bang for the buck.

Macbook Bro? Does it hang out with you and watch football games?;)

They actually aren't great values either. The Pros are hella expensive, and I'd need to buy a new $400+ monitor to watch movies from it since they no longer support analog video out (connecting to a standard, non-HD, TV via S-video or composite). There is no simple miniDisplayPort to s-video/composite. You'd have to buy a $400 digital to analog signal converter.

Another wave of apple computers I won't consider buying.

The 'premium image' should come from the products, not the price.

Is it possible that Apple stuck with the Core 2 Duo processors because of cooling issues related to the iMacs enclosed design which makes it impractical to put quad core processors in them? I thought I read that somewhere not too long ago.

Yeah, same as the Macbook. I'd say a step backwards overall.

Still $100 too much for the base mini

I'm happy to see the mini get an update, however of still only has
one gig of ram, and it looks like Apple has done away with including
the remote. One gig of ram in a machine that shares 128mb with
Video is dispeckable. I'm planning on an upgrade to a new Mini, but
This at least gives me good reason to wait until Snowleopard.

I am dissapointed that Apple is still asking for so much for an entry
machine that includes no keyboard, mouse, display and now no
remote. Especially when I'm not even certain that I'll still be
employed at the end of the day.

That does not equate to loads more... And paying £400 for a 2GB RAM boost and 500GB HDD boost which at retail is maximum £100 extra (not including discounts Apple will receive for buying in bulk) why and extra £300? That's not including the fact that since those iMacs were launched the component prices have been dropping.

Whichever way you try and cook it, it is ridiculous.

More than likely it was laziness and larger profit margins. 65W quads are available, just more expensive than these outdated Core 2 Duos. Apple makes a larger profit selling these old processors for the same price they were selling them a year ago.

Don't buy it. Check out Insanely Mac forums and OSx86.

Maybe Apple are planning to properly update them in November, which someone told me would be when they would update them, cause the mobile Core i7's where being released. So I guess we should just wait and see.

So, the reports of the demise of Firewire at Apple were grossly exaggerated. Only their two oldest machines, the second to low end laptop and the niche market, secondary computer laptop are without FW. Everything else has been updated since those two and includes FW, in all but one case now FW800. Any bets on the next upgrade to the 13" aluminum laptop going back to FW?
No, because Apple will add USB 3.0 to the MacBook which is when they will stop producing the white MacBook and let supplies run out naturally. I am sure we will see FireWire 400 to USB 3.0 adapters show up shortly afterwards, and since USB 3.0 is supposed to be a lot faster than FireWire 400 I am guessing the transfer speeds will be on par with FireWire 400

Time Capsule updates????

Will the Mobile Me file Share feature be available as a software update for current Time Capsule models....???? Don't see why that would a a hardware thing....hummmm

No, as a former 15+ years user of Windoze I have very very painfully earned my right to call it windoze, and no to me it's not a respectful operating system, it's badly designed, full of glitches, sold by the worst ****s in Redmond that take advantage of the very last drop of your blood ( I know it) to force down on you a subpar product and charge $500 for the ultimate vista with free ultimate only user bonuses which by and large where the ability to play a vid as a dekstop background...so PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't get me started on windoze...respect my view and disagree. As for the rest of what you said, you are oversimplifying here, they went to ddr3 which is costly (and not yet much an improvement), more memory etc. Like I said you have some right in these underwhelming (integrated graphics...) updates, but just that. I respect what you say about mac pro.

"Sorry kids. You know my old white iMac I gave you last weekend? I'm going to be needing it back."

Pre-recession the Mac Mini's should start at just over £350 ($2 for £1 and 17.5% VAT). Do you think Apple would've priced it like that? Nope...
