People are more likely to referred as iPhone 8S for avoiding confusion and most underwhelming update yet.
What? What people, other than some disgruntled MacRumors posters are going to call this the 8S? Thankfully Apple came to it's senses and produced a phone with a decent form factor. We will see if this is the right call, regardless of some of the lame sentiment around here.

FYI Overpriced iPhone PRO

My close contest between the new SE and the 12 non-Pro 5.4", two value-for-money phones, is my pushback against highly priced phones. I like that Apple seems to be cottoning on to this sentiment with product releases. After my XS (a lease that I need to return in October!), I will not do it again. It is very unwise in this era of advancing technology filtering down the range after a couple years. My only uncertainty is exactly when I will buy after launch.

Apple dabbles in the realm of exotic materials and designs. I believe this is taking a risk with consumers for universal product releases. Confine it to the Pro models, by all means, it's what iPhone is about.

I have a small child. Imagine my excitement to catch that “instant pose” or “cuteness” with a raise-to-wake, swipe left on lock screen, landscape for video clip, click the shutter button, ...and the damn thing goes back to sleep.

Now I have an iPhone-shaped hole in my wall...
I went back to try this, works like a piece of cake.

umm.. point is when/if bluetooth audio matches 1:1 the quality of a wired connection, then it will start to lose merit.. until then.. it will not, to many. (just like vinyl's to people who like them) Some new technologies are 100% better than the previous one and just replace them... but not all.
You are correct but if you are complaining that the audio coming from your phone is not amazingly perfect, you're missing the point. If you want better audio - use better equipment to get a better sound. iPhone audio is about it being pretty good and being very accessible.

I got mine from ABS and US Census

Nice copy/paste of the links I shared.

One of the links is the same, because <shock horror> we both found the same statistics for Australian income.

edit: I mean you do realise that one of the links I posted is different to the ones you posted right?

They were referring to the power button being on the side (top for landscape in this scenario) making it easier to accidentally press.

for those who want a decent phone sized phone (ie approx 4 inches) you have to leave the Apple ecosystem. Apple has abandoned you.

Leave the Apple ecosystem for what model/s? I would like to know what there is available today. I used to have 6 Android phones.

There are some old ~4" models at the very bottom end, the kind you see in supermarkets and post offices from brands like Alcatel and Konka. That's all.

Guessing this is Australia, based on the price.

So $749AUD is about $470 USD.

10% of that price is GST, so the 'untaxed' AUD price is $681.

$681AUD is $429USD.

Wow! The Australian price is about the same as that $399 pre-tax price in the US after all. I don't think anyone thinks of taxes when comparing prices. This is big news.

Night mode needs a sensor with 100% Focus Pixels. That’s an expensive sensor and you’re not going to get that in an entry level, cost reduced device.

If you want higher-end features, you’ll have to buy higher-end hardware. Starts at $700. Apple may discontinue iPhone 11 and keep the XR in the lineup this fall, but if not you should be able to get the 11 for $600 after the 12 comes out.

Pixel 3A will prove you wrong. This phone takes superb low light photo.

are you that bored that you resurrect thread from over a year ago? lol

Seriously though, this is something that bugs me online but for the opposite reason. It should not matter how long it takes for someone to come along and reply, as long as they do and if the subject is important like it is here. The lack of emphasis on low light photography in the 2020 SE is a critical factor differentiating it from the 12 mini and the other models and can sway a purchasing decision.

The thing I want the most out of a thread is to get responses to a topic no matter how long it took for the responder to arrive in the context of a vast internet and busy lives! It makes discussion threads workable.

Sadly far too many threads are filled with the perpetually disgruntled. For the worst of the bunch it's easiest just to click on their name, quick glance over of their recent activity, with confirmation they are one of the perpetually disgruntled, click ignore (if they have their past posting hidden, that's an instant ignore). Provides for a better forum experience.

It seems, IME, every forum eventually becomes a house of the perpetually disgruntled. Other forums of other interests seems to take the same path eventually. Without using ignore, there's just too much of this (IMHO) valueless axe grinding to get through in order to get to posts that provide varying and sound views.

Ayyyy, same here. I would only buy Plus sized iphones

Completely agree (obviously screen size is an individual user's taste). Prior to the 6, I seem to recall Steve Jobs commenting about iPhone would not adopt the bigger screen. Sure, hard to argue against Steve's intuition on consumer products. For me, though, I wouldn't even consider an iPhone while owning/using/liking my Galaxy with its bigger screen.

I think it was about 6 months after the rollout of the 6(+) and it's bigger screen, I bought it. At the time the hardest transition was a relatively big step-down for app availability(was also concerned about the unremovable battery but that turned out to be a non factor). But I was otherwise impressed. Thanks to Apple adopting the big screen/the 6+, I'm on my third big screen iPhone :) and likely onto my 4th when the 13 has been out for 6 months.

The SE2 is still pretty relevant as a device for its cost, compact-ness, expansion of ‘last era’ design made fresh with A13, etc. and a device thats in apple’s lineup still (I say still like spring 2020 waS years ago)

I love every bit of iPhone SE, it my daily driver phone, especially during mandatory mask law.

I also carried iPhone 12, FaceID is annoying with mask, especially when you need Apple Pay. Unfortunately, I don’t have Apple Watch and I really don’t want buy one.

Two of things I dislike:

1. Battery life on iPhone SE is horrifying. It never last me half day when I am out about. But when I am in office, I could just put it on wireless charging pad. I wish iPhone SE has battery life, but it doesn’t.

2. Low light photography is bad. It is apparent when it compares with Pixel 3A which I also have.

For 1 I used smart battery case (for 7, without wireless charging) almost the whole time I used my SE2 last year

LOL. I have a cheap Amazon battery case while I a out about. I will power up the battery case when iPhone has low battery.

I dislike Apple Smart Battery case, because it doesn’t let me control when to charge.
