I agree. I like everything about this phone but the battery life. Not that it is bad, but was expecting a substantial increase to the iPhone 8. Maybe they did this on purpose to entice people that value battery life to move up to the iPhone 11, or maybe not since that's a big price jump. I think they might be able to capture some of those customers with this tactic, very Apple of them.

I’m hoping that the battery life will exceed 8 by far in real world testing. It just doesn’t make sense that the SOC is the same as the 11, battery same as the 8 in capacity (assuming due to same dims), and no increase in battery life.

If Apple crippled it intentionally, then they can bugger off lol.

The clock speed of the iPhone 8’s A11 is only 2.39 GHz; in the A13 it’s 2.65. Also, there’s 50% more RAM in the SE. So it makes all the sense in the world.

The 11 doesn’t have great battery life because it uses the A13, it has great battery life because it has a huge battery.

But even with a battery that’s upwards of twice as big (1.7x), the 11 doesn’t beat the new SE by all that much. The new SE gives 13 hrs of video playback vs. 17 for the iPhone 11. For streaming video, the SE does 8 hrs, vs. 10 on the iPhone 11.

Is that bad?

iPhone 6 owner here. I’ve just ordered mine iphone SE 2020 128 GB applecare +. I think it will be fastest phone in the smaller form factor in the apple ecosystem nowadays. At a fair price point (549 + 99). I was looking forward in the 5,4” this autumn but seems reasonable that the price will double (imo 1000+ with apple care) AND the 6 was really slow those last months ( can’t wait that long)

The battery life is the same without any improvement. Absolutely ridiculous!

Count me as one of those to be happy to still have Touch ID. I don't have a Face ID phone so I don't have TRUE insight, but Touch ID has always felt to me in theory to give me greater control, takes a very specific thing to instigate the unlock. I could be wrong, but that's why my gut tells me at any rate.

Yes - but security is not as good - and many people don't care about security - not on their radar, so I get that.

I understand that, but it's not INSECURE. I've got a 11-digit passcode. But anyway, you're right, Face ID is more secure. Touch ID is great...Face ID is double-secret great!

Guessing this is Australia, based on the price.

So $749AUD is about $470 USD.

10% of that price is GST, so the 'untaxed' AUD price is $681.

$681AUD is $429USD.

Obviously exchange rates fluctuate all the time, but also consider that median income in Australia is higher both in local respective currency, and even when exchanged to USD, than the US.

Median income for Australian men is $77.8K (~49.1K USD) / year, for women is $53.4K (~33.7K USD) /year - across all workers.
Median income for US men is $46.6K / year, for women is $32.6K / year - across all workers.

If only our wages fluctuated with the exchange rates like Apple's prices do.
Also please quote where you got your information wrong as it's different to the info I got.

My info comes from
The ABS

The BLS

At some point you have to realize the headphone jack is dead and move on.
At some point you have to learn what a meritocracy is...
Just like people had to realise the floppy disk was dead
Just like people had to realise firewire was dead
Just like people had to realise vinyl records were dead (outside the hardcore fan base)
Just like people had to realise analogue television signals are dead
Just like people had to realise CGA, EGA and Tandy are dead. VGA though still exists today, we just used a exponentially better version of VGA.

I got mine from ABS and US Census

People who never try face id hate it! LOL! They say “it is slow”, just the opposite of how fast really is!

Well, "hate" is a strong word. I don't have Face ID, and I'm glad I can get a new phone that doesn't have it. I feel that Touch ID is a system where I am more in control. I don't like the idea of my phone scanning for my face: that makes it the active participant and me the passive one. Touch ID is the other way around: I expect that there are fewer accidental unlocks, but more to the point I feel more in control of the interaction.

It's funny: I would normally spend the next week getting more and more amped up. Mine is scheduled to arrive on Friday. But I've spent a lot of energy getting excited about the rumors leading to the launch, I think I'm gassed, lol. I'm sure I'll recover my full enthusiasm by the middle of next week. :)

My work iPhone is usually the mid tier phone which is fine. I was on a 6S and then we had mandatory replacements. They went with the Xr. Mine was switched right before the shutdowns. I really wish I could’ve gotten this SE. One I could still use my battery case And two. Using Touch ID while the phone sits on the table is so much better than Face ID. Oh well. This was a really good update.

I just ordered this iPhone SE 2020 edition for a family member. This will be the perfect update for them to update from their iPhone 8.

Red Pocket has a deal this morning called their flash deasl that only lasted a few hours where you get the iPhone SE 2020 edition 64GB for $299 plus you get 6 months of service with Red Pocket for free. The service includes unlimited talk/text and 3Gb of Data monthly. For those who made thsi morning flash sale on RedPocket they get $100 of the retail of the phone not including the cost of service included for free for 6 months at no extra charge.

Red Pocket has a deal currently that you get the iPhone SE 2020 edition 64GB for $349 plus you get 6 months of service with Red Pocket for free. The service includes unlimited talk/text and 3Gb of Data monthly. Still pretty good $50 of the retail of the phone not including the cost of service included for free for 6 months.

For those wondering about me. I am happy with my iPhone 11 Pro 64GB.

umm.. point is when/if bluetooth audio matches 1:1 the quality of a wired connection, then it will start to lose merit.. until then.. it will not, to many. (just like vinyl's to people who like them) Some new technologies are 100% better than the previous one and just replace them... but not all.

What? Its an SE. If you want a plus it came out 4 years ago in the form of 7 plus and 8 plus. U ok?

He is utterly confused about what is the point of SE. The people knew SE is always about smaller form factor and iPhone 8 does not reach that criterion as an iPhone SE.

Phone manufacturers have mostly moved away from the 3-4 inch phones. So why do you expect Apple to continue to stick with the tiny 4 inch phone? I understand that some Apple users prefer the super small form factor of the iphone SE from 2016 and iPhone 5S from 2013. There are probably some andrioid users that want a small 3-4 inch phone but they have to adapt. If they don't want to adapt to bigger phones they have to keep a much older android phone or go to an older iPhone if they want a 3-4 inch phone.

At least Apple updated the iPhone SE to give us the SE 2020 edition which includes alot of cool new features( check my other posts in this thread if you want that info). Sure the form factor of the new SE is slightly bigger going from 4 inches to 4.7 inches. However, it is still a somewhat small smartphone especially by today's smartphone screen size standards.

Take a look at all the phones currently being sold on T-Mobile's website. They have over 35 different phones for sale from various manufactures like Motorola,Google,Apple,Samsung, Alcatel, LG, ONE PLUS etc

All the smartphones they have for sale currently on T-Mobile's website are in the 5-7 inch screen size range. With some exceptions: They currently still sell the iPhone 7, iPhone 8, and the iPhone SE 2020 edition all of which are 4.7 inches which are the smallest phones they offer for sale in the smartphone category. The only thing phone they sell thats smaller that the 4.7 inch iPhone 7,8, and the new SE is the Alcatel GO Flip 3 which is a flip phone. Click on the link and take a look for yourself. https://www.t-mobile.com/cell-phones. Or go to T-Mobiles website and click on phones and devices and then click cell phones from the drop down menu.

Dunno, those metrics mean less than nothing to me.

What I do know, is that in my typical usage, getting 8hr of SOT is where I want to be. This would mean that I can use the phone the whole day without topping up, and charge it overnight.

So far, I’ve only been able to do this with the Plus/Max sized phones, which are too big for me.

No. The original form factor of SE is not small and can be slightly bigger in screen size than the iPhone 8.
