No FaceID is clearly the upsell for the Pro version - despite it already being used on the iPhone. Not interested!

Here in my Euro country, the base storage and the 256GB versions of the 11-inch iPad Air have significantly dropped in price with this new generation. It used to be €789 for the 64GB, and €989 for the 256GB, but now it is €719 (128GB) and €849 (256GB).

So storage bump and price reduction!

Other than the chip what’s exactly new here ?
  • 128GB in the baseline $599 configuration
  • Marginally larger display on the 11" one? Like, 0,1" or less.
  • A new 13" option
  • Landscape-oriented front-facing camera
  • Wifi 6E (older one was Wifi 6)
  • Support for Apple Pencil Pro (maybe incompatible with 2nd Gen Pencil?)
  • Supports Magic Keyboard, like the older model. But doesn't support Smart Keyboard Folio(older one did)
  • M2 (like you said)
  • Two new finishes in purple and blue that replace the older ones. The new ones look brighter?
I think that's it.

It's not a ton of upgrades.

But the 128GB at $599 makes M2 iPad Air a very good deal by comparison to the older one.

Looks like it wasn’t a bad idea getting a 13 inch iPad Pro M2 for $700 a couple months ago.
Not really.

But only M4 iPad Pro and M2 iPad Air support the new Apple Pencil Pro.

Not that I'm sure Apple Pencil Pro is a major upgrade over 2nd Gen. Apple usually discontinues a product if it's too similar to the new one they want you to buy.

Who knows.

But the M4 Pros start at $200 more than the M2 ones. So the comparison isn't as straight-forward.

I just did a bit of quick math. I can buy a 13-inch iPad Air AND an 11-inch iPad Air for only $100 more than a 13-inch iPad Pro. I really have to think hard about whether I need the M4 chip, an OLED screen and 256GB of storage. As nice as they are to have… do I really need them - or want them, for that matter? An M3 chip in the Air would have been nice. But, again, with iPadOS, do I need anything beyond an M2? The Pro’s weight savings are also very nice. But if I’m going to work with the 13-inch connected to a keyboard most of the time, does it matter?

EDIT: After thinking about it, I have ordered two Airs - 13-inch and 11-inch.

Not in my country (Netherlands).
This is a screengrab from the store.
"Inhoud van de verpakking" translates to "What's in the box".

Happy Touch ID still is here!!! It works much better for me in my Mini than Face ID on my iPad Pro (never works).
Sad the display is still rubish at 60hz!. CPU update cost nothing for Apple, old display tech from 10 years ago basically?. No solid advances on display capabilities?. Shame Apple.
