To be honest, the line between Windows and Mac is becoming so thin that I suspect many people who aren't reliant solely on applications would have less issues with switching. Even the gestures are incredibly similar and just as natural, the same applies to the Trackpads on a Surface Pro, Book or Laptop. I'm a Mac user and while I did switch back to Windows a back a couple years ago I had to switch back for Sketch (Mac Only App) otherwise I would've remained on a PC. Now, I don't really have much issue transitioning between the two, it just seems kind of seamless in a way.
i highly disagree. I use a surface for work and it’s a 100% consensus from everyone that it sucks. It’s very frustrating. I do not see any similarities or how windows has become closer to macOS.

I'm looking forward to a breakdown comparing this to the 12" Macbook. Why not make them both part of the Air family now?

Dear Apple,

Why would you reduce the amount of ports to only two USB-Cs? This defies any kind of reasonable customer focused logic.

Then when you leave on the 3.5 mm headphone jack, I don't know whether to thank you or feel like I'm being punked.

Why? Just Why?

SOOOO...

they updated the MacBook and just called it MacBook Air, because they realized that the Air name is very popular.

The MacBook and the MacBook Air are the same product now, just with different configurations.

Exactly. I'm really bummed they took out the SD Card reader. Having it built in is so helpful.

Is the battery glued in as well? I have to know before I buy because it is important to me, it has to be glued or I will not fill safe because it can fall out while I'm using it and explode in my crotch.

if you need more than that, you're using your computer wrong.

That hole is for custom water cooling, not audio?

No but seriously, I am also bummed out about the ports and that awful keyboard. I would rather build my own portable computer out of a Mac Mini because that got all the ports I need.

That’s a pretty quick judgement for having no understanding of how it’s designed.
i mean, literally EVEN single one of apple's "high end" laptops suffers from throttling and logic board failures because of no thermals.

there is no way that a tiny fan in something the size of a piece of paper can handle CPU heat - no way. i don't care how many little videos they show you of designers praising it, because it won't work.

that said, it is impressive what they achieve with no room, but the fact still remains that these overheat.

Anyone still bitching about the keyboard is insane. There is more than enough travel in the keyboard! Let go of the past. I truly can not see how anyone wouldn’t like it or need more depth. Hurts your fingers? Get out of here

It’s the poor reliability I’m having issues with. Now that Apple no longer makes a laptop keyboard that actually withstands normal use, I’ll be looking elsewhere.

Apple's prices have increased and these forums continue to be a hotbed of nastiness.
You’re complaining about price and I simply pointed out that perhaps you’d be paying the same amount as your $1000 criteria. Or very close to. [after a little math]

Do they realize that they just made the MacBook most pointless product in the Mac line?

Yup, particularly on the higher end, the rMB with 512GB of storage and 16GB of RAM is the exact same price as the MBA with 512GB of storage and 16GB of RAM, but the Air has 2xTB3 to the rMB's 1xUSB-C and a much better CPU and while it's bigger, it's pretty damn close. You have to really need that extra size reduction to want the rMB at this point

Interesting, what does this mean for the non-tbMPB and just standard MacBook? I feel like this new Air makes them irrelevant.

Agreed, when I saw the new Air I thought ‘ah, now they’re going to kill the MB line they just don’t want to announce it on stage.’

Maybe Intel will update the processors it uses, soon, but it’s still got a previous generation trackpad and the problematic keyboard.

Who on earth would willingly buy this now there’s the new Air? It’s superior in pretty much every way.

But throttling has been a normal process of every computer ever.

I have not seen a wide spread report of logic board failures. I have seen a lot of conjecture.
