Can't innovate anymore, my a**!

Seriously - My hat is off to Apple for an inspiring level of progress, innovation, and adaptability this year despite the total sh**storm of events around the pandemic. I‘m amazed they’ve been able to pull off all these great releases with seemingly only minimal delays.

I was hoping for an iPad Mini refresh, but my guess is that we would have seen that at the September event, if that was going to happen this year. With the iPad Air getting the A14, and ARM Macs coming with some variant of Apple Silicon (perhaps even based on the A14), I also figured we'd see an iPad Pro refresh with some variant of the A14. But maybe Apple has moved to the Spring release cycle for the iPad Pros.

At this point I don't think we'll see an updated ATV until next year, but maybe I'm wrong. There isn't much that the current ATV can't do. Seeing as there is no evidence of AirTags in iOS 14.2 RC, I doubt we'll see that this year, similar to any potential new headphones.

tl;dr I bet this event stays Mac focused.

I could see the AirPod Studio holding off so they can sell more AirPods this year and then try to upsell on the Studio next year. AirPod sale prices have been fairly aggressive lately. As for AirTags, it doesn’t make much sense at this event unless they also announce a new Apple TV to make it more than just new Macs. But Apple often likes clarity and focus when revealing something big like this so they might not want to muddy it up. AirTags also seem like a good thing to introduce at a Random spring event.

I feel like I'm being pulled in two directions - I am very interested in seeing this keynote with Apple's first Apple Silicon Mac, but I am waiting at least three years for software I use (scientific computing) to run smoothly on this platform.

Looking forward to knowing more about the Apple Silicon Macs. I'm stuck waiting - should I buy a last generation Intel iMac or wait? My iMac (used daily for work ) is 3 years old now, almost 4, I need/want to upgrade but need the Adobe suite working. So...ugh.
