Nice incremental (and long overdue) improvements. OS X is still using the creaky old HFS+ file system though.

So now they're going to give the OS releases place names from California? Hmm, they seem to be taking a page out of Intel with their place names for their chipsets.

Really stupid name...If they were going to go for CA cities, why not just make it a real city?

There aren't a whole lot of options Apple would be willing to use / announce now for an HFS+ replacement, AFAIK. Mind you, now that the Intel transition is as complete as it will ever be, it would be a good time for a new file system. ;)

That being said, I'm thrilled about the new OS X, feature-wise. :D

Was there any mention of updated OpenGL?
Yup. OpenGL 4.x comes to OS X with Mavericks.

Omg I think I just died of happiness. Jack Greasley wrote on the Modo forums that its "been a busy few weeks" so I can only assume he means Mari.

Refudiate that name

Apparently let down by the fact that Fedora claimed “Schrodinger’s” as their own, Apple moves on with Maverick(s). Did they forget the huge stain placed on that word by a certain different-thinking wordsmithstress some years back?

So instead of an os that is both running and crashed until the user observes it, Maveric(s) promises to simply quit halfway through whatever it’s elected to do.

App-le, where the hits just keep . . .

I can't wait.... a lot of super cool new features, but i really want to try OpenGL 4:)

Anyone managed to find out if DP1 is available yet? The Dev Centre is completely blocked up, can't get in at all.

I'm really loving Apple right now. They did listen to their customers.. a new OS X version focused on under the hood improvements and new features that actually make a difference. Can't wait to try it out. Hope they keep on working on OS X based on this mentality.

Also, who cares about the name?

Way to go! :apple:

Dear Apple, I see you still have that Launchpad icon sitting in the Dock, this wonky Mission Control and all-grey sidebar icons which seem to still be unorderable.
Consider me skipping Maverick and sticking with Snow Leopard, because you have learned absolutely nothing. Third dumbed-down OS release in a row, thank you.

I'm really looking forward to this, especially that they're finally improving OpenGL support. It's about time!

Finder tags is just customisable labels right? in Finder already I can tag files with a colour and then type a few letters of that colour in the search bar of the finder window and I can see anything with that colour. A little more developed I guess.
