I love it! Everything I listed regarding OS X lacking is finally in place. I missed Serlet but I must admit Federighi impressed the heck out of me. Haven't been this excited for an OS X update since 10.6, now if only Apple got their developer portal fixed.

Dear Apple, I see you still have that Launchpad icon sitting in the Dock, this wonky Mission Control and all-grey sidebar icons which seem to still be unorderable.
Consider me skipping Maverick and sticking with Snow Leopard, because you have learned absolutely nothing. Third dumbed-down OS release in a row, thank you.

Yeah, and the damn thing doesn't even wipe your own ass for you. I mean, what's the point anymore of these stupid OS "updates".

Mail, Copy Paste, Address book forgotten

The big question: Will Mail still suck?
Not said:
Mail will still be a flawed program...no interest in fixing it.
Address book will not offer color text or option of bigger fonts
No interest in fixing it.
Copy paste will not be updated but remain the same as it was in 1994...no interest in fixing

Forstall must be punching his screen right about now at all the skeumorphism/stitching jokes Federighi is cracking.

Forstall makes an easy target, but we shouldn't forgot that Jobs was a big fan of skeumorphism. Guess we can assume he's rolling in his grave...

Mountain lion's design changed over the course of the betas so I reckon this will look similar to new iOS by time it launches. iOS is probably further along its development cycle than OSX. They both had the same announcement banner styles so I reckon stuff will come soon :) DP3 perhaps

I have learned to adapt to changes, but if they're so stupid they actually slow me down while working, I'm going the straight hardliner route, because that's what's the only logical thing to do.

Also, the sheer existence of Launchpad already tells enough. The underlying problem isn't solved by just removing this icon from the Dock.

I'm not a troll or fanboy from the other camps - I own 3 expensive-as-hell maxed out Macs and am actively working with them - but I'm certainly nobody who just blindly applauses to anything Apple tries to sell us as "the future".

The under-the-hood improvements are pretty impressive, but they still won't solve the problems floating over them. If these features came to Snow Leopard I'd take them instantly.

May be just a stupid question, how is launchpad a problem ?
it doesnt take resources if you are not using it.
you can start apps exactly like before launchpad with spotlight, finder and docking bar.

So where do you lose anything ? pr are you just talking bad because you are a troll ?

XtraFinder - free

TotalSpaces - 10.5/6 "Spaces"

Not sure about Contacts, I would have liked to have better organization and customization, and adding images to contacts became wacky since 10.7. You can do this by right clicking on a contacts entry:

Apples best product

There isn't anything to touch OSX, Linux cant get the momentum or direction, Microsoft latest release is unpopular with its customers. That they (Apple) have given it a bit of a reboot, without chucking away what people like is in sharp contrast, The hardware is the best on the market (having just been out to buy a windows laptop) and the OS defiantly is, I don't think in any other area are they so far ahead.

iCloud Keychain Sync! iCloud Keychain Sync! iCloud Keychain Sync! iCloud Keychain Sync! iCloud Keychain Sync!

This may cut deeply into 1Password's profits. Anyway, I welcome this feature! I am sure many people in here will deem it another useless feature that nobody uses :(

mail is the best mail application released with an os. I have outlook on windows, i HATE it because it is slow, messy to use.
Just simple details like "i can answer ANY mail in a conversation, even if it is mine and write to my dialog partners" is something i really miss in outlook, thunderbird or co.

So for 90% of the people its just perfect.
Dont see a problem with adressbook or copy&paste. How is it flawed ?
how do you use colors and different text sizes ? and why ?

That's the problem. I do use Keychain to keep track of passwords. Keychain is now moving from my computer to the Cloud. Not good.
I don't get it. Why is this problematic? I know that Apple's iCloud implementation is buggy - I've encountered these bugs myself. Is there any other reason?

They have yet failed again to produce an OS for trolls. Bummer!

Wait, Keychain Syncing was a part of .Mac and MobileMe until iCloud, when Dock, Keychain syncing and iDisk were removed. It was cloud based then, syncing between Mac's, so now it syncs passwords between iOS devices and Mac's much like 1Password. How is that bad?

I think it's optional. So far you can choose what to use with iCloud. Mail, Notes, Calendar, etc. and turn this either on or off. I see Keychain in there as just another service.

I liked the Sea Lion name better. OS X Mavericks, really? I understand the "We love the USA and California" marketing, but Mavericks doesn't roll off the tongue.

The features of Mavericks seem OK, but I hope they bring the design in line with iOS 7 before the release. I don't want different icons on each platform for the same applications.

I'm hoping they didn't show it because they wanted to show off the new design language in iOS 7 first.

For me, it's bad. I have no iDevices, so syncing is not necessary. With Keychain on my computer I can be assured it won't be compromised. In the Cloud, who knows?
Call me paranoid. :)

It shows that Apple still hasn't quite realized it's just plain stupid to port certain features from iOS (which work really well there, on a mobile device with a relatively small touchscreen) to OS X on desktop computers.

With bringing all these "features" they're adding size and sluggishness and removing actually useful features.

Here I am still able to drag my Applications folder into the Dock and ditch Launchpad, but there are multiple other things where they just removed the old feature.

GREAT OSX presentation!

Also, it looks really promising! Not many new features, but instead refining existing features! I love that!

I just want better spam filters. I'm getting random spam through iCloud and it's annoying.
