This. Weird if F1TV is made free for Apple TV subscribers..that's at least $60/yearly being lost by them.

Apple plunked down a few dump trucks full of money for the rights, and now F1TV doesn't have to worry about advertising to try to get fickle Americans (I'm American) to subscribe, deal with ROI and unpredictable revenue year to year, etc.

We also don't know what infrastructure they use in the states to stream, and what that costs them.

Take the money and run, let Apple deal with it.

From what I understand Apple TV will include F1 TV Premium with no extra charge. You will no longer be able to buy F1TV as a standalone. They will thus use the world feed provided by F1. So if you subscribe to Apple TV and F1TV this is a huge savings. But if you do not use ATV then it’s going to cost more per year for your racing fix. They will not be adding any cameras or other stuff to the cars. But I do fear that Tim will not be able to keep his greedy hands off some potential additional dollars once this has launched so fully expect a price rise or additional fee some time in the future. Hope I’m wrong.

Just please keep the Sky Sports commentary, one way or another. Based on their MLB production, I have no confidence in Apple’s ability to staff with personalities I want to listen to.
I could go a race or 24 without the constant bowing down at the feet to Lando Norris. Its pathetic.

This explains the latest price increase for Apple TV. However, this addition will compel me to subscribe annually to Apple TV’s streaming service. I anticipate that Apple will experience a significant increase in subscribers!

Apple and Formula 1 today announced a five-year partnership that brings all F1 races exclusively to Apple TV in the United States beginning next year.

The partnership allows Apple TV to provide comprehensive coverage of Formula 1, including all practice, qualifying, Sprint sessions, and Grands Prix. Select races and all practice sessions will also be available for free in the Apple TV app throughout the course of the season. Eddy Cue, Apple's senior vice president of Services, said:

Apple also said it plans to "amplify" the sport across Apple News, Apple Maps, Apple Music, and Apple Fitness+. The Apple Sports app will feature live updates for every qualifying, Sprint, and race for each Grand Prix across the season, along with real-time leaderboards, season driver and constructor standings, Live Activities, and widgets.

The partnership builds on Apple's relationship with Formula 1 following the success of Apple Original Films' blockbuster "F1 The Movie," which it says is the highest-grossing sports movie of all time.

Apple says that further information on production details, product enhancements, and new ways to enjoy F1 content across Apple products and services will be announced over the coming months.

For formula 1 fans in the US this is a big deal; once abc/espn loses tv coverage in a sport, they basically abandon it. Try finding today’s F1 Sprint Race (US Grand Prix precursor) on tv. ESPN will promote darts and WNBA, but ignore MLB because they no longer have a TV contract.

It’s possible but everyone every streaming company has been increasing pricing in the past 6-12 months by multiple integers.. so a 3$ increase per month doesn’t seem like a way to pay for this F1 deal.. they DO lose money overall on Apple TV+ (reportedly) but with quality content and the many award wins, and the F1 movie success both by viewers and financial probably merits a price increase MORE than many other streamers who are raising price and not really investing in content creation or features much. Netflix has proven the model, SPEND on content, both created and purchased and viewers will follow and CHURM will go down.

Awesome news!
I had an annual sub to "F1 basic" in 2024 and didn't renew for the 2025 season.

I will definitely get an annual ATV sub next month, and with my Apple Card enjoy the deep discount from $99 to $96.03! :D

There's also a hassle factor with sports now.

Despite having multiple forms of paid access, it's incredible how often I get "over nagged" about where I'm currently located or needing to re-confirm or "re-verify my sub" again and again.

It honestly leads me to using alternative options more often than one might imagine, because they simply "work" and don't hassle you.
As a German thankfully I just need one subscription to watch the NFL, the GamePass. In the US you need a dozen of subscriptions if you want to see all games, so I can fully understand people watching the games on alternative options.

As someone who couldn't care less about F1, it pisses me off that they're adding this for "free" to Apple TV (the subscription not the hardware, grrrrr). Why? Because nothing is free, especially in 2025. You all know this to be true. I was just getting pizza on Friday and they were charging $1.50 per packet of parmesan cheese FFS.

What these subscription companies love to do is to "add value" and then months to a year or so later jack up the price for everyone. They do this at different times so people won't connect the dots. But these "deals" that Apple makes with these companies cost enormous amounts of money. Amazon did this for years adding random garbage I don't care about to Prime while jacking up the price each year while I would love to just pay for a shipping plan. If Apple keeps this up and keeps raising the price for all this sports crap I don't care about, I'll just cancel the service and sail the high seas for Severance, Silo, etc.

Might've been mentioned previously, but:

Apple developed a compact, iPhone-based camera for onboard shots in the F1 movie. Could the 2026 cars each receive one of these for the stream?!

or you could look at it this way: subscription prices inevitably go up year after year anyway, so at least we're getting *something* more with the price hike, unlike most cases. Maybe next time it will be something you are interested in.

Meanwhile, the added subscription revenue from F1 fans will help pay for the massive production budgets on shows like Silo, Foundation, and Severance.

He's coming back strong though.....

Piastri seems to really be off his game. If you would have asked me back 4 or 5 races ago, he had it in the bag and was taking Lando to task. Now.....yeesh.
Piastri is floundering lately. I really want to see him win it all. McLaren needs to stop this 50:50 Papaya Rules stuff and strategize around one of their drivers...

So who then? I'm saying Piastri. He may be faltering a tad lately but it seems like lando always is, at least he is when he's up against Max. Lando can win pole and lose 1st place before the end of opening lap....consistently.
