since it is an all new case and antennas I would hope that the reception is different and specifically better. In for base model! I sure as hell hope the crappy BT on the current M2 (and older) is fixed!

Do not feel bad. When I asked Apple for trade-in value on my old iPad Air they said they would recycle it for me for free...yeah I just checked my resale value via apple trade in for my Mac mini M2PRO 16/512 and they offered like $350! LOL
Followed closely by the Ethernet jack. I was expecting to be underwhelmed and disappointed, but I am pleased to find that I am quite whelmed and appointed! The base RAM being 16GB is the best news of all
You are absolutely correct that "Speccing up lower end models is usually much worse value than just going up a tier." But do note that Apple's 14-day return means a Mac Mini preordered can always go back if M4 Studio is announced.
Also note that the odds of an M4 Studio being announced this week are slim, approaching zero IMO. So for many getting (an IMO nicely priced) Mac mini now will be a superior choice over waiting months for a Studio. Personally I think the M4 MBPs are the devices that may be better choices than the upscaled Mac mini.
me either! stays on all the time!I never turn mine off
My M2 MP had 512GB SSD but only 150GB is used. My user folder is 70GB so the system is only using 80GB and that includes all of the app and a lot of transiently allocated space.I've never fully understood this. The M2 Mac mini I use at work has 512GB internal (as I struggled with 256GB in the past). Somehow 125GB is occupied by System Data. 1/4 of usable space gone just like that. Wish we had more control over how storage is used.
Energy consumption is always important.
And if one buys electricity over a pair of wires, which most people do, you'll find that running these new Mac Minis 24/7 over a whole year will cost you less than buying a NUC-copy that burns 2x to 4x as much energy.
I still balk at paying £200 for 256GB of extra storage... I find that criminal and I'd like to have words with the specific person at Apple who signs off on that level of gouging.. but I do want one.
I predict a new type of dongle, one for the power button. https://appleinsider.com/articles/24/10/29/apple-stuck-the-mac-mini-power-button-on-the-bottomTo dongle or not to dongle. That is the question. I’ll get one for myself over the holidays.
And wait a year? Nope.Ouch $3500 for a Mini. You may want to reconsider a Studio.
I disagree, and I am living it because I use an M2 MBP in desktop mode driving multiple external displays. Taking up space on high tech devices by adding low-bandwidth legacy ports makes no sense. My USB-A hub has at least 5 devices plugged into it; it would be absurd to try to provide 5 lame USB-A ports in a Mini or in a laptop.
Wished for it - but never got my hopes up.Had hoped this thing might use USB-C for power and so be able to use a single cable to a modern display for power and video purposes.
Spec increase and price drop
I concur. Evidently @ignatius345 doesn't or has never worked in an open floor plan office. It's good to be the King, Oh là làI suspect so that people can plug in their headphones. I could be wrong.
It looks exactly as a mini Studio - good job Apple to create a better family view 😊It is so cute!
Well mentioned. I have an M1 MBP connected to my monitor using USB-C. The setup is super clean. Just a single power cable from the wall to the desk and then a cable from screen to laptop. Mouse, keyboard and speaker are all Bluetooth based.Had hoped this thing might use USB-C for power and so be able to use a single cable to a modern display for power and video purposes.
Because you rack mount your Minis and power them on and off all the time?It shrank and grew in the wrong dimensions. Not only doesn't it fit a 1U rack space anymore, as it is too high, now they even make it incredibly inconvenient to reach the power switch. Hard pass for me. Hoped to finally upgrade my rack with a powerful desktop unit.
We’re carbon neutral manufacturing this new Mac mini! But we’ll make it a pain in the ass to turn it off to make up for it!The power button on this thing is apparently on the bottom
