Not a lot of ports on the back, but to be expected with the form factor.

This looks like a great option. But anyone else notice that the M4 mini still only supports 2 external displays when the M4 iMac clearly has 3 display controllers (one for the built in display plus 2 external displays). Why the difference?

I was hoping they would give the M4 Pro 4 total display out options but I guess not (or maybe they are artificially limiting the mini but that doesn’t make much sense).

Edit: never mind. The tech spec page states 3 external displays for the M4. The press release was less clear on that. I still wish the M4 Pro got 4 but oh well.

Very good pricing on the base Mac mini. At $599, you get 10/10 cores, 16GB RAM, 256GB storage. The comparable 10/10 iMac is $1,499 - so you are basically paying $900 for the monitor, keyboard and trackpad on the iMac, which seems a tad bit too much.
While I agree... finding a comparable monitor, keyboard and trackpad for $900 is NOT an easy feat.

Simultaneously supports up to three displays:

  • Up to three displays: Two displays with up to 6K resolution at 60Hz over Thunderbolt and one display with up to 5K resolution at 60Hz over Thunderbolt or 4K resolution at 60Hz over HDMI
  • Up to two displays: One display with up to 5K resolution at 60Hz over Thunderbolt and one display with up to 8K resolution at 60Hz or 4K resolution at 240Hz over Thunderbolt or HDMI

Not a fan of front ports. Would've loved a clean and tiny Mac mini box with no front ports. Many will be pleased. This is how it goes. Cool tech all the same.

I have a 4TB high speed NVME SSD hooked up to my current Mac mini with thunderbolt 4 and I store everything on it as far as my personal files go yet somehow the internal 256 has filled up completely in a single years use from whatever apps store on it... incredibly frustrating.
I know what you mean! The Apple tax on upgrades is frusting. An 8GB NVME chip cost pennies on the dollar.

Base is surprisingly not price-hiked in the Canadian store, $669 edu price for the 256/16GB version, that's actually good. The M2 versions for 256/8 were going for $799 regular price I believe.
