That would be the obvious guess, but I'm wondering if that's actually so.
The battery is given for 52.6 kWh. So with a 30W charger and assuming 100% efficiency and that the charging is always at 30W, that would give 1h45 for a full charge. A half charge slightly under one hour, say 53 minutes, would make sense.
In practice efficiency is not 100% (some energy is lost as heat, no idea how much, I would not be surprised by a 10% loss or so), which would make real observation worse than the above.
And of course, when nearing the fully charged state, the charging speed goes down significantly, so I would be surprised if the real life full charge time (from close to 0% to 100%) did not take ways more than 3 hours.

3-5 are Pro features, IIRC. Gotta draw the line somewhere.
Yes, of course.

Because only professionals are interested in large laptops. Because gamers (who Apple claims now will be satisfied with the Air) do not care about a 120 Hz display. And because only Pros want HDR to watch videos.

I can understand that Pros need 400 GB/s memory bandwidth, support for 4 external displays, or an SDXC card reader. But leaving out of the Air features that appeal to the general public is an incentive to upsell the Pro with all those pricey features that they do not need. Tim Cook has been all about upselling, he must sleep and wake up thinking of this.

MBP only just got a 120 Hz display. Only iPad Pros have 120hz. Only iPhone Pros have 120hz. There was no way MBA would get a 120 Hz display. I think when we see regular iPhones and iPad Airs with 120Hz, we will then see a MBA with 120hz. When that is, that's the question.

Now, the 1 external display limit is frankly disappointing on a $1200 device.

I have a feeling they didn't do the black keyboard insert on the new Air because of the feedback from the Pro's. Looks ugly and I bet it doesn't wear well. Might get removed for them also in a later refresh.

It’s still a lot cheaper than the MacBook Pros
No isn't. If you spec the M2 air with a 10 core gpu it will be the same price as the 13 inch pro which has 10 core gpu as standard.
Wake me in two to five years when the MacBook Air gets ProMotion and loses the noch 😴
also 16gb ram as standard.. Tim cooks upsell tactics with the m2 air is too strong

Beautiful - would consider replacing my 11" MBA with one (if it weren't for the fact you still can't boot from an external SSD)

I have the Midnight series 7 watch and midnight silicone case for 13 pro and the watch is darker and has slight blue hues while the case is more blue with black hues.

The air looks to be more blue with black hues which I’m fine with and probably buying, marquess brownlee said something on his recent video that he wasn’t impressed with the midnight for a certain reason which he’d talk about on his next video.

I think it might be a scratch magnet and that’s what he was hinting towards, if that is the reason then I might go starlight but I’ll see what reviewers say.

M1 MBA is €675 (special offer) here in Switzerland. The M2 is going to be a hard sell.

Thanks for that hint. I’m in Switzerland as well.

They have made all the right choices. Amazing design.

RIP wedge, and luckily no absurd off-white bezel.

Would definitely buy a bigger-screened version to replace my 16” M1 Pro.
Yeah I'm really glad that the rumoured crayola color scheme didn't come to fruition, I hated the off-white bezel in the mockups.

I was really hoping - but not expecting - that they'd release the Air in 12" / 14" / 16" sizes, I'd have loved a 12" version for travel and 16" for permanent desk use. But I guess that the 13.6" is a good all-round compromise.

Agreed. A larger screen macbook air option would be nice.

A 16 inch macbook pro is twice the price or the air which is a jump that's difficult to justify when the air is now borderline pro in performance compared with Intel laptops.
Agreed. The Mac lineup has absolutely reached the point where "Pro" is literally that, it's for people who are actually needing the extra horsepower to make money from. Unless you've got deep pockets (in which case, why not?), I can't see the reason for anyone to buy any Pro Mac for personal use.

I'd also love a 16" MacBook Air, I want the screen size of the Pro but I don't need the guts inside.

For MacBooks with 2 USB ports, it really annoys me that both are on the same side.

Thats one is really really absurd. They could've added 3 thunderbolt, one on the other side. Its so annoying when you keep your mac vertical on the sides, either you have all the cables running from front to back or have all the ports at back which makes thing tricky to plug in sitting on the chair.

Apple today at WWDC 2022 announced the next-generation MacBook Air with the all-new M2 chip, a redesigned unibody enclosure, a brighter display with a notch, new color options like Starlight and Midnight, MagSafe charging, a 1080p camera, and more.

The new MacBook Air looks similar to the latest 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models. The notebook features a slightly larger 13.6-inch display with up to 500 nits of brightness, a fanless design, a MagSafe connector and two Thunderbolt ports on the left side, a headphone jack with support for high-impedance headphones, four speakers, three microphones, and more. The notebook is 11.3mm thick and weighs 2.7 pounds.

With an M2 chip, the new MacBook Air is available with an 8-core GPU and up to a 10-core GPU. The notebook can be configured with up to 2TB of SSD storage, along with up to 24GB of unified memory. Apple says the new MacBook Air achieves up to 18 hours of battery life.

The new MacBook Air is equipped with a Magic Keyboard that includes full-size function keys and a Touch ID button for fingerprint authentication.

The new MacBook Air will be available next month, but no specific date was provided during Apple's keynote. Pricing will start at $1,199 in the United States, with all color options including Silver, Space Gray, Midnight, and Starlight. The previous-generation MacBook Air with the M1 chip will remain available for $999, according to Apple.

Apple also announced a new 13-inch MacBook Pro powered by the M2 chip.

Anyone know, is this MBA’s Liquid Retina display same with 2021 iPad Pro 12.9” and 14” MBP?

It's kind of hilarious to watch people go nuts that an entry level consumer laptop doesn't have an SD card reader or the ability to power 2 6k external displays.

Good god, people, this isn't the laptop you want. You want a MacBook Pro.

"suddenly" LOL

Check your facts. The Air has supported dual monitor output for a few years since 2018, and the Pro has support since at least 2012. What actually happened was that Apple "suddenly" removed existing features since 2020.
And there used to only be one iPad. Apple has been increasingly differentiating their products in ways beyond performance benchmarks, not less. RAM is another differentiator.

We all want all the things at the lowest price point. But that's not how a trillion dollar business works.

So, it's not enough to you that you won't buy one, but you want to make sure that nobody else can either? How does having other colors hurt you?
Well, I think going with pastels wouldn't leave room for the existing finishes, as they aren't very pastel.

1080p? Is it still 2007 in Cupertino? A notch? WTF for? Just to make room for the garbage camera? They literally created a bug and now call it a feature.
UP TO 2TB hard drive. I had 3.1 in my iMac 8 years ago and that was a rip off. On a Pro machine 4TB should be standard and 2TB the entry point.
I agree with you about the notch, but the Air isn't a Pro machine, hence the lack of advanced internal storage options...

It's too heavy for what it is though, and there's no way I'd buy a passively cooled computer again. (I had an M1 MBA)
