Very interested in seeing the "Midnight" color. I LOVE my SG MBP14 but the Midnight reminds me of the iPhone 5 Space Grey which was very very slick. The Midnight Apple Watch S7 is almost Black so interested to see how it looks

I think people expecting a near black MacBook will be disappointed.

These seem a bit too expensive... by the time you have increased the memory and storage to usable levels, you might as well just get the 14" MacBook Pro for the power, ports and much better screen.
Exactly what I came here to post.

The base model M2 Air (as well as the base M1 Air) are excellent values, especially for students or light users.

However, if/when the 14" base model goes on sale for $1749 again, it's the clear winner vs. any upgraded M2 Air.

I have no criticism, this is simply an excellent product, so much that despite not having any need for it, I'm tempted to get a midnight one.
Of course I won't but if I was travelling around I'd 100% get one.
The only trouble is that in Italy it is very expensive, and 2200 euros for 512SSD and 24GB of ram is a bit too much without the mini-LED display; I would have expected 1900 euros for such a configuration.
The 14" M1 Pro with 16GB but the mini-LED costs pretty much the same.

I wonder if we can't really use two external monitors, as long is like 4k + 2k
the M1 2021 MBP was capable (my friends runs his in this config with no problem)

One good thing I've noticed for the new Air is they eliminated the 'MacBook Air' lettering under the display. I always thought it looked cheap to have it right by the display. Yet it's still there with the new M2 MacBook Pro 13!

Awsome news. Wonder if the M2 is faster than the M1 Max in the Pro line? If so I might have to sell and get the newer version. The M1 hasn't been utilized properly so far. Hoping developers and the OS can take advantage of the M2
Not even close. Think of the naming scheme as similar to intel’s where you have generation 1 of i3, i5, i7, & i9 compared to generation 2 of i3, i5, i7, & i9. M1 -> M2 is like going up a generation (i.e. gen1 i5 -> gen2 i5). M1 -> M1 Max is like going from a i3 to a i7.

Comparing the M1 Max and M2 is like comparing a gen1 i7 to a gen2 i3. The small gains that the generation change gives are dwarfed by the i7’s greater multi-thread performance.

The number going up equals newer technology in the chip, while the Pro, Max, and Ultra designations indicate scaling to have more cores.

The M2 has (i believe) about 18% better CPU performance than the M1 and 35% better GPU; both have 8 core CPUs and 8 core GPUs. The M1 Max has a 10 core CPU and 32 core GPU; meaning that it ought to have 25% better CPU performance and about 4x the GPU performance of the M1.

This is exactly what I was hoping (though not expecting) to see in a MBA update.
I prefer the squared off edge over tapered. This Midnight coloration is just stunners. The screen res, the price point - it's all a go for me. When can I preorder?

I was thinking exactly the same, I went for 14” mbp and it’s £200 more for similar spec but the screen is worth it for that

You can't one display, as for your friend, he does not have a 2021 M1 MBP as it does not exist.

Unimpressed.
  1. $200 more expensive.
  2. 13.6-inch (and only because of the notch).
  3. No larger model.
  4. No 120Hz display.
  5. No HDR.
  6. Only slightly lighter than previous models.
  7. Only two Thunderbolt ports.
Just an excuse to raise prices while keeping the very same features of the older model. Typical Tim Cook.
