I wouldn't worry about that. Apple has been collaborating with Stanford University's AR/VR Laboratory for the last 7-8 years.

I remember the reactions here when iPod and iPhone were launched. I'm seeing the same thing today.

Deja vu all over again. :)
I do not believe iPod & iPhone can be compared to the AVP as the former are not physically invasive devices.

I was commenting on the reflexive negative reactions here every time Apple introduces a new product category. You can count on it.

iPod, iPhone, iPad, Watch, AirPods, etc. All predicted flops at introduction.

That’s in the hands of the developer community and the market. A big undertone of this product is creating a more focused work from home experience. I’m using a cheap 4K60 capture card to pipe my work laptop into my Mac. Latency is surprisingly low.
This is really cool. I've been wanting to do this myself. Can I ask about your setup? Like what software you're using?

it's not a question of religion but about market potential and logical thinking

yes - this is very much seeable and for completely a mystery how a forum dedicated to a company that has shaped the earth with refined new tools can receive such negativeness only when introducing an new idea?

We all don't know the outcome but we can be sure Apple won't give up easily on any venture they target. The past ventures like the homePod, AppleWatch, AirTags, AirPods, AppleTV have partly received many iterations until they became the defacto standard in the industry. Best example is the AppleTV which is by far the best streaming device in terms of usability. The AppleWatch is the 2nd device that comes to my mind when talking about their continuous strive for perfection. It took Apple until version 4 to make the product really good.

The AVP will take time no doubt.

Developers, developers, developers, developers, developers, developers, developers…!

Consumers, consumers, consumers, consumers, consumers, consumers, consumers…!

Very little so far about actual productivity apps.

All about creating your own personal little isolated cinema.

I dunno…
I don't have to be productive as I'm on medical retirement. I want a distraction from dialysis when I'm there. My AirPods get a good workout and so would these goggles.

No negativity here. I want it for entertainment and can afford it.

Lol Sony tried this with the original VR projecting movies on a virtual large theatre display. It failed and reviews coming out complain of the weight after only 20 minutes. Whole project was a terrible idea from the get go. Its going nowhere probably be discontinued after maybe a second or at a push a third model.

Tim says mindless scrolling is bad

Why not sit with this huge lump of glass and aluminium on your face and watch Disney+ on your own instead. Wholesome.
I don’t understand this argument. Mindless scrolling is bad because of the time that it unconsciously eats up with no benefit in return (this is regardless of the device used btw). If I sit down to watch a good movie or show, how would something being on my face affect whether or not it’s a wholesome experience? Uncomfortable you could of course argue, but where does wholesomeness come in?

As a small phone lover, I think current iPhones are very invasive haha. But yes, VP is generally much more. The only way in which it’s not is it frees your hands.
