What should I buy now? This is too much tech talk for me.

The AW1 have now a new chip? So...the only differense between AW1 and AW2 are that water thing? Okey, that display is not the same, but who cares? I

They have the same battery performance? Right?

What should I buy now?

It's great that the processor is 50% faster (and I'm a fan of including better waterproofing and a GPS) but I personally can't see myself upgrading from my stainless steel watch. For those that haven't already bought into Apple Watch, this seems like a great point to jump on.

Feel sorry for the people who bought the first gen AW since series 2 is what the first gen should've been.

And series 3 will be what the second gen should have been. No need to feel sorry for people. If the first gen was what they were looking for then they should be happy with that purchase.

The series 2 needs to be half the price it is. £399 for the cheapest 42mm watch. Ridiculous. They also need to do something about the design. A rectangular face just doesn't do it.

LOL! $1249 for a watch that will be outdated in a year. I bet that there will be plenty of people with deep pockets who will go for one. It's pretty insane to make luxury items out of such early technology in my opinion.

For a fitness watch the 1st gen is a fail if you can't swim with it and without accuracy of GPS. A $100 Garmin XT310 can do those core functionalities.

Still, this was known to the people who bought it so what's the problem? People should know by now that first or even second gen products will be pretty much a commercially produced prototype. it will take some time for this tech to mature.

Literally the only product that needs to be thinner... and nothing. ::sigh::
GPS, faster, brighter, thinner

Pick three out of four. Apple picked the first three. What they gained in thinner components (mainly the screen), they spend on the battery. And what they gained in battery (and a more power efficient CPU/GPU/radios, not least by moving from 28 nm to probably 14 or 16 nm as the A9 already had last year) they spend on GPS, faster CPU/GPU/radios, and a brighter display.

I'm probably going to upgrade and sell my 1st gen stainless watch.

Very tempted to pick up an Hermes version this time around. Those bands.

They don't need to mention battery life, because there's plenty of battery get you through the day - - you simply charge it with your iPhone every night - - it's not something you need to think about.

On the website, it says the battery life is the same as series 1. (both series 1 & 2 state: "up to 18 hours")

Guys, did the Apple Watch actually get thicker??? It says 11.4mm compared to 10.5mm on apples tech spec sheet on their website. :O

You're right, it sounds thicker.

Or... it's thinner and they started telling the whole truth about that dimension.

You see, with the first Watch, their website stated that 10.5mm was the thickness of the metal case. However, unlike all other watchmakers, Apple left the case back (sensor pod) out of their measurement.

In reality, using normal watch measuring, the smaller Watch was 12.2mm thick, and the larger one was 12.46mm thick, according to Apple's own documents for protective case makers:

Remember all those times that people bragged about the AW being 1mm thinner than the 11.5mm Moto 360? Nope, it was almost 1mm thicker when both watches' sensor backs were included, not just Moto's.

I might upgrade, but probably not right away. I might see what sales there are around Christmas time.

Have seen this question elsewhere and it seems so obvious that Apple should say something about it - CAN I BUY A WATCH WITHOUT THE BAND? Very important ($) question if you say, bought the Stainless model with the Stainless Link band. You should not be forced into purchasing another Stainless Link band if you want to get a "Series 2" model watch...take care of your most valuable customers (i.e. Early adopters...).

Don't be. Nothing in the version for me and, I might guess, most gen 1 users save for fitness buffs. It might get the recalcitrant fence-sitters to move, though. Maybe then they'll see what we have been enjoying since release day.

No need to feel sorry for me. :) I'm still delighted with my early-adopter watch. I wear it daily, use it all the time, and rely on it for reminders, messaging, grocery lists...and telling me the time ;) The OS upgrade will give me all the improvements on the watch I current want (speeding up apps, making it easier to change watch faces, and such). The other things the series 2 has that mine does not, I don't need (I've no intention of swimming with my watch; splash proof is all I need for now).

I think the only thing the new one has that I would like on mine is the brightness so the watch face is more visible in daylight. Other than that...my series 1 watch has more than paid for itself; it was a great buy and well worth early-adopting. And I'm pretty sure it will last me and be more than adequate for my needs until #3 comes out, and I finally decide to upgrade :D

The AW1 have now a new chip? So...the only differense between AW1 and AW2 are that water thing?
Differences:
1) Water thingy (the new one is made for swimming)
2) GPS (new one can connect to satellites--good if you're hiking, traveling about, etc.)
3) Run without iPhone (new one can go on a run and track your progress without iPhone--old one you need to take your phone on the run with you)
4) Brightness (new one is brighter and easier to read in daylight--old one you may need to shade to read on bright days)
5) New one comes in ceramic and Nike special.

Those are the big differences. Oh and the new one has a faster and better processor, but I don't know if the difference would be that noticeable between the two unless you were doing something processor heavy on them like playing games. Reviews might say if it's a huge and worthwhile difference.

If you need/want any of the above, get AW 2. If not, get AW1. Why pay extra for what you don't need?
