Is the Space Black Stainless Steel on the series 2 have DLC? I have had my DLC coated watch since they were available and its scratch resistance is crazy. Even accidentally rubbing up against a brick wall doesn't seem to do anything. My wife's Stainless Steel is covered in scratches.

My SB link bracelet has a lot of the coating rubbing off on the edges. Every link on the thin edge has regular steel showing through. The sapphire screen though is still scratch free along with the watch itself.

I don't see any reason to pay for another link bracelet. Buy the Series 2 with sport band, put the sport band on your original watch, and sell it. Of course it will sell for less than if you included the link bracelet, but I'd think you'd come out way ahead ... I could see the band lasting through several watch upgrade cycles.

You're saying buy this one? http://www.apple.com/shop/buy-watch...reSelect=false&product=MP4A2LL/A&step=detail#

Do we know for sure that the Space Black Stainless Steel Series 2 w/ Sport Band has DLC coating like my Series 1 SS SB w/ Link? If so, then yeah, that's an excellent suggestions!!!! Thanks.

I received my SS SB 42MM Link Apple Watch May 21st, 2015. I paid $1099 + $99 for AppleCare. I'm looking on sold listings on eBay and lowest is $420, highest is $570. Did I really lose 50% of the watch value after 14 months of ownership?

This is completely unlike any other Apple Product I've ever owned.
The Apple Watch is the only product Apple has ever made where the cost of the casing was way over that of the electronics inside, and the first to step into the "fashion" world. And everyone kinda knew going in that the hardware was definitely version 1.0. A lot of buyers stuck to the Sport model specifically for that reason.

I assume Apple have accepted that people aren't prepared to pay £10000+ for a watch - the "Edition" now appears to have disappeared quietly from the Apple Store...

It's still there...instead of Gold, Edition is branded as Ceramic which looks really great TBH

Indeed yes, Given we have seen how much larger the battery is, in that pre release teardown a few days ago, I was waiting for the new info on the new larger battery, but he said nothing whatsoever.

Oddly, he did not even say "Even with all these new features, it still has the same great battery life"

Which in itself is strange.

Logically, is the battery life was better, he would of said so, as a extra selling point.
If the battery life was the same (despite the new features) then again that's something to be proud of.

So kinda makes you wonder, what would be the reason to say nothing at all?
One could suggest there is/was only 1 reason to say nothing.

That's a possibility, of course. But with watchOS 3, they were able to make changes to the software, given that they now had a better understanding of the battery life - given real-world use (and their being conservative with how it was used by the software). IIRC, they were fairly vague on battery life with the original release as well.

I'm inclined to think they didn't say anything about the battery life now, since they realise they have no real way of knowing where things stand, until people start using it...

A professional athlete/very active person is going to use far more battery life than someone who only uses it for the time, and the occasional notification. I'd reason that with phones and laptops, they have a far greater understanding of what the 'average' user does with their devices, and given the (relatively-speaking) size of the batteries, there is more room for error. The battery constrictions on the Watch, probably make this far more difficult.

Regardless, I don't mind charging it daily. I do the same already for my laptop and phone, and actually prefer that. The few items I do have that last far longer (bicycle lights; Garmin thingimabobs ec.), I inevitably forget to charge them periodically, since 'out-of-sight/out-of-mind' - which often sees me with a dead device when I actually need them. Popping the AW on the charger next to my iPhone every evening, really isn't such an inconvenience, particularly since I don't sleep with a watch. Each to their own/purely subjective, but I've never really understood the major issue with it 'only' lasting a day... which by most accounts, it does...

I don't think Apple really has the watch stuff figured out. It does not need all this processing power because so few are using it for anything but fitness. Look at all their pictures, videos. Its all exercise and that is really all anyone wants a smart watch for. It does not need to be faster like a computer - it needs to be slower.

I got the watch for work and it was not useful until I used it for fitness tracking. Now - with GPS I am seriously considering to the series 2 which I expect to last forever since it will be perfect except overpriced and too thick.

Also- ceramic is only $1300. Looks amazing, out of my budget, but I bet they sell more of these than they did the gold.

Also another edit: The series 2 description says,
  • Direct fire speaker
Anyone know what that is?

So Apple Watch detractors said it needed more battery life, speed, water resistance and GPS.

Apple added exactly that.

Now what's the excuse now?

If there's "nothing worth caring about this upgrade", then you should have bought the OG.
They wanted LTE so they could pay for another data plan.

The Nike Plus thing is bizarre. So if I want those things, I need to buy the Nike version of the watch? Strange that they didn't just make it an app.
Agree. Just software and a fancy band that could bundle or sell separately. Bizarre is right. Maybe the band is the only difference? Maybe the Nike app will do the fancy stuff on any watch?

UPDATE from Nike website:
NIKE+ RUN CLUB APP
Newly redesigned for an even better running experience. Available soon for Apple WatchNike+ or any Apple Watch model.

Does anyone know the difference between the series 1 sp1 dual processor and the series 2 s2 dual processor? I don't think I missed this in my readings. I am ordering one but have no use for extra water resistance stuff or even gps for that matter but I want a faster watch and I do like the 2x brighter screen. It is a bit more than 100 dollars Canadian between the two. Just want to have a faster watch, that was my main reason for waiting (hence the question I asked about the processors).

Have you worn any other GPS watch? The AW is actually quite slim for what it is.

Feel sorry for the people who bought the first gen AW since series 2 is what the first gen should've been.

Don't feel sorry, I have loved mine for the past 15+ months and the resale value is not bad so I can sell my series one and get a new one for a couple hundred bucks!

Confusingly they've dropped the 'Sport' category now, I guess to make room for the partnership with Nike? Series 1 is only available in aluminium, series 2 can be had in either material...

Well, I am an avid swimmer and I think this AW nailed it for me. I'll be getting the cheapest one because it makes no sense to put too much money down on something that gets obsolete in less than 2 years.
I am only sad I will have to put my Omega Seamaster aside for most days.

I'm not sure about the coating ... don't see any mention of it, and I can't go back and look at the original product pages to see if it was explicitly called out as a feature there. Might be something to ask the 'chat now' person if no one on the forum has a better answer.

No need to feel sorry for us. I've had a great watch for 18 months. First gen Apple Watch is water resistant enough, I've been wearing it in the pool three times a week for several months with no problem. I don't need GPS so it's likely I won't buy v2 unless I get seduced by that lovely ceramic version when I finally get to try one on.

Thought the update was very good, didn't buy the Gen 1, but can see where I could really use the Gen 2...will be getting one.

JMHO, but Gen 2 is going to blow away the Gen 1 in sales, Apple did a great job here.

42mm Black SS with sport band looks to be going for ~$300 on eBay from an original purchase price of $599. Same % drop, but less out of pocket!

Waterproof is great, that alone will cause me to upgrade.

I live in FL, it is wet. Being able to float around the lazy river at Disney and know the time will be great - I can stop near my stuff and sync to check message.

And if physically I ever get released to do something (I just had elbow surgery) I might even get to swim with it.

My current one will go to one of the kids - who don't care and just want it. Well, as long as they can play Pokemon Go on the original! LOL
