Thanks, that’s the kind of picture I was looking for! The proportions of the S10 will need some getting used to.

Will probably wait a little bit to hear about the jet black finish’s durability

Just my speculation - the jet black aluminum finish is likely to be a magnet for both fingerprints and scratches/marring. If it were me, I'd let other folks field test them a couple months before purchasing. Be worth also checking the apple store display models condition after a couple weeks. :)

So I have had my silver aluminum series six since release and id say there is not a single scratch on the body. Kinda confused on how people are using their watch and why there is this obsession about a nine year old iPhone gone wrong that constantly got pulled In and out of pockets and rubbed into fabric while walking around and is nine years old. You'd imagine Apple leveled up.

Speaking for myself, I'm not the most graceful person (far from it!) but I am sorta handy and thus am regularly doing tons of DIY projects around the house, the yard, vehicles, etc.

When I'd buy the space black aluminum models - didn't care for the silver - I'd invariably smack the watch against something within a couple of months and get to stare at the resulting damage until I replaced the watch. Switched to the space black stainless models and they'd remain pristine.

If you're someone who is able to avoid ever hitting your watch against stuff, then you may well have no issues with the jet black.

... and not sure what the JB iphone being nine years old has to do with anything? People were experiencing microscratches within days/weeks of buying them new and Apple even advised of the likelihood.

Didn’t think of checking the display model but that’s a good idea. As long as they don’t switch it often.

Got my S4 space gray aluminium on release also, and the body is like new. The glass only has tiny scratches on the edges. It bothers me a lot, but most normal people would barely notice. I probably would’ve preferred a similar finish on a S10, rather than glossy, but if it’s durable, I prefer dark over silver or rose gold.

I bought the Jet Black AW, but if the finish is scratch prone and as bad as the iPhone 7 was, I will be returning it. I don't think Apple can afford to release another product with a poor finish tbh as it will cost them dearly in refunds. I remember when the iPhone 5 came out in black annodised and a few of my friends bought it. Quite a few returned them in the first couple of weeks and swapped for the white version which I had, as the black chipped terribly with very little effort. I hope this isn't the case with the Series 10.

DCRainmaker has a good photo in his hands-on article here: https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2024/09/apple-watch-series-10-hands-on-details.html

To my eye it seems the bezel under the crustal is similar size or maybe slightly bigger, but is offset by a larger crystal and less visible watch casing.

My guess is that in real world usage nobody but the most persnickety would notice the difference beyond a side-by-side comparison.

Edit: found the S9 display sizes in the comparison tool and the 46mm S10 display is 5.2% bigger (area) than 45mm S9, and 6.7% bigger for the 42mm watch. 46mm display also slightly larger than the Ultra2. See https://www.apple.com/watch/compare/?modelList=watch-series-9,watch-series-10,watch-ultra-2

Strictly speaking it's possible the bezel is larger, but IMHO that would be immaterial given the display is larger.

They couldn’t have picked a worse face for the 9. Why not pick a Contour face or something to have apples to apples comparison? (No pun intended.)

Technologie advanced in the past nine years bud.

technology? sure. the physical properties of anodized aluminum? not so much.

it'd be great if my concerns are unfounded, but I doubt your optimistic view of jet black's durability

Agreed - though on my 2nd monitor I can see the background of the S9 well enough to discern the differences.

I expect we'll see a number of other comparisons as of Sept 20th if not sooner.

Either way, the specs do show the screen area to be larger on the S10 than S9 albeit just a few %

Does anyone know why the Series 10 GPS+Cellular weighs LESS than the GPS only model? Is the GPS antenna smaller on the one with cellular?
