Subtle point in the Keynote...
...Steve commented on TWO issues with laptops and Time Machine.
1) Having to plug the wire in to get a backup done. This has been discussed at length.
2) You're out and about and don't have the drive with you but need to restore something.
This second one is something I am very keen to understand in more detail, in terms of Time Capsule spec.
Specifically. Will it use Back to My Mac, or wide area bonjour or similar, so make it possible for me to attach to my backup volume when away from home, over an internet connection, to restore a file?
THAT would be the most useful for me. I already backup wirelessly, to another mac that's sharing it's USB drive, and it works flawlessly, so the first "benefit" is marginal for me. THe second one though, that would sell me on it. Granted I could set up tunnelled AFP mounts to do the same thing, but it's a big hassle and never entirely automatic if done that way. I'd love for it to "just work" in the great mac tradition.
Any thoughts?
