Apple today announced that it has sold over two million iPads sold in less than 60 days since the device's initial launch in the U.S. on April 3rd.
Apple today announced that iPad sales have topped two million in less than 60 days since its launch on April 3. Apple began shipping iPad in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland and the UK this past weekend. iPad will be available in nine more countries in July and additional countries later this year.

"Customers around the world are experiencing the magic of iPad, and seem to be loving it as much as we do," said Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO. "We appreciate their patience, and are working hard to build enough iPads for everyone."
Apple has continued to deal with shortages of the iPad as it seeks to keep up with demand in the United States while also increasing distribution to additional countries.

For comparison purposes, it took over two years for Apple to sell its first two million iPods, while the original iPhone took on the order of four months to reach the two million milestone.

Great news. I was told that iPad was nothing more than a big iPhone, to which I replied that a swimming pool is nothing more than a big bath tub!

Let see what the Android has to offer, but they don't have the apps.

Yeah, but how many would they have sold if it had a camera and supported Flash (runs away and hides in a very dark place) :p

Well done Apple! Pity they don't also have the comparison figures for how long it took to sell the first 2 million Macs!

If it did, we would here about battery life complaints. The competition, if it incorporates flash will see a greatly reduced battery life.

dun think the figures would be much higher if the ipad had flash and a camerea ;)

This "magic" is getting really old. I never looked it as magical even when it was announced. Just a larger more capable iPod touch that was more responsive. Thats it.

This is good news but... There is no competition yet. iPad hasn't won anything. Let's see how this market falls out in a year. One can't dismiss Android and HP/WebOS tablets just yet.

By my maths, the "US only" iPad launch has been significantly more successful than the US launches of the PS3 and Xbox360 too. By any standards, it's a fantastic success.

I guess I should no longer be surprised when Apple pulls off these types of sales figures. I was actually a bit skeptical of the iPad, but I was able to get my hands on one over the weekend (just released in Canada, and already sold out everywhere around me, go figure). I seems like a really cool devise, but not something I'm planning on getting right now. Looking forward to the new iPhone too much.

Ahhh the magic of a giant iPod Touch that can't display the thousands of Flash sites. That's some lame magic.

What is wrong with people? I know a few who bought the Wi-Fi model just because they could not wait for 3G to ship and then bought the 3G model. Scary - tomorrow Apple will ship a shiny paper weight in the name of simplicity and a promise to ship a 3G paperweight in 3 months and 6-8M people will still end up buying it :D

It's becoming a game of how swiftly and overwhelmingly can you fool people with traps! Masters of foolery shall sell the most goods and make the most profits - LOL the days of real innovation seem to have taken a hiatus!

Cool! This is a very big number for 2 months. Congrats to Apple! The new iPhone is going to do even better!

I'm waiting for the version where it is running a fully touch supported version of OS X - then I'll be all over it. The ultimate portable :apple:.

Ah... it was you... I have been quoting that swimming pool metaphor to others after reading about it in this forum, without knowing the source. That is a great quote, I loved it. Thanks.

Got mine yesterday and I have to say it's one of the most impressive devices I have ever used.

What world championship are you talking about? :p

All the competitors have retreated. That is their tactic as they work out the strategy. Android is in the 'me too' stage. It will take 9 months to a year for competitors to show up for the world meet. By that time, let Apple sell a million to million and a half a month to get to a head start on the installed base of 10-15 million. And the shadow effect it creates for Mac purchases can only be beneficial to Apple.

Keep on ranting, more stock for the rest of us.
