Because software guys create hardware ? You do realize there are other divisions inside Apple right ?
The point is there are so many other areas where Apple is falling behind for professionals and they release toy crap like this, which is just insulting. I'm not in the market for a Mac Pro but a new iMac or "iMac Pro" would be great, along with SOFTWARE on the iPad Pro that is, you know, actually designed with professionals in mind.

Apps by Apple are a huge reason why you should own iOS devices versus the competition. Clips looks delightful and I'm sure it will be very popular with consumers.
I've been reading your posts for a long time now and I do appreciate your endearing levels of enthusiasm for Apple products, since this place can get too negative at times. But I am starting to wonder if you're Tim Cook.;) I can't remember seeing you be critical of an Apple release, ever. o_O

I can see this being a very useful app for social media. I have no criticism of the app itself and will probably use it for my own amusement. I'm thrilled any time Apple gets down to releasing new software of any kind. Anything is better than news of another new reality show from them. ;)

The problem is that social media grows more clogged and onerous with each update, according to friends who are still using it. I left all of that crap behind several months ago. At some point I'm hoping the powers that be will streamline all of this stuff so it's not so obnoxious.

iMessage has gotten some kitschy add-ons in the past year. I wonder how popular they are. Fortunately iMessage still looks decently streamlined for regular texting and we have choices about how we want our messages to come across.

Anyone noticed it supports iPhone 5s and later? Bye iPhone 5 (shocking...)

This is probably the social network app rumored some months ago. Deeply integrated with iMessage it would have been.

No, Apple isn't falling behind, they simply do not care about the professionals. They're not in that market anymore, they've left it many years ago, especially when they've started to kill off all of pro apps, hardware (xserve), etc and removed "computer" from their trademarks.

They're a mass consumer fashion product company and the pros is a very small market share that they could care less about. I don't blame them for wanting to go for the profits lately.

You are not going to be happy with Apple again, the 90s/early 2000s Apple is not coming back, it's gone for good and unfortunately, the only person that could revive it is dead as well.

You want powerful and more flexible software, go give Windows or Linux a try depending on your needs. You'll find that Windows 10 is less worse than it was back then.

I think this is pretty cool. I imagine it will definitely help their AR effort. The real time transcription could be huge for deaf people if they do end up releasing AR glasses.

Then they should stop labelling their products "Pro".

You're going to be disappointed more often if you think Pro branding means it is exclusively for pros. It rarely is. Even Surface Pro isn't anymore professional than your standard laptop of better specs. Dell Precisions are for professionals, high-end workstations and they're not labeling them as Pro.

iPad Pro is not short for iPad Professionals or iPad for Professionals. It is just a pointless marketing term to make people believe it is the highest end and it works. Apple is all about marketing, they could care less about what you think they should do.

Not a bad idea for my personal machine as I've been wanting a gaming rig at home anyway. What pisses me off is how integrated Apple has made the Mac into my workflow with my other devices, and now I feel like they're pulling the rug out from under me. If they would at a minimum develop Messages for Windows then it would make my life a lot easier. But then I'd have to find decent replacements for Coda, CodeKit, Sketch, Tweetbot, etc. At least 1Password and Adobe CS have Windows versions. Oh and Xcode is kind of a big one. I don't do most of the dev work but I frequently test and poke around in builds to debug issues from my dev team as I oversee project management and design for our app—which is secondary to my primary job but still important. But I doubt I could convince my boss to buy me two machines for each OS. Apple can't completely abandon professionals as long as Xcode is needed. These people are designing and testing their apps on the Mac. They need professional hardware or they'll just stop—and that's when Apple is in big trouble! I don't think they seem to understand that their iOS industry is built on top of their Mac industry. You can't just take out the foundation and expect the building to stand.

And iMovie is so much better? It's so terrible, plus every time I add a movie into iMovie the app size goes up, iMovie on iPhone is now 1.3GBs what the actual hell??? I have to delete it every so often just to get my space back. iMovie sucks! So glad Apple is releasing sometime simple and clean...

You misunderstood me. I am not saying iMovie is much better- at all.
Why is everybody in this forum jumping to negativism so fast??....

I am just asking if it's an iMovie stripped down or what is the purpose of this app in relationship to iMovie?
If it's addressing casual users then it's possible that they will phase out iMovie at some point.

However I am not convinced of that Android looking interface - at least how it looks in the screenshot.

Obviously, it's too early to see or make a clear judgement.

We're swimming in a sea of negativity at the moment on MR. But there are still plenty among us who still love the products Apple makes, the software they create, and the services they maintain.

I concede it is difficult maintaining enthusiasm and positivity on MacRumors right now. I'm posting less and less often because there's just so much anger and disappointment on here that it can drag you down. I guess the problem for some people is the Mac is clearly not long for this world. On a site named MacRumors that is always going to create a level of discomfort and angst.

The truth is I am genuinely very excited to see where Apple is headed with all their new technologies.

As for the iMessage platform, well it's one of the things people love most about iOS. So Apple must be doing something right in this area.

It's like Microsoft's and Apple's social network, and liking music and their live dj's etc.
Nobody uses it, it won't be the app in the market. Instagram is where it's at, just how the world works.

You didn't actually answer the question. At all.

Has Apple forgotten what they are?

What are they? Enlighten us. Are they a phone OEM? A computer company? A marketing company? Software/platform? Cloud services? Content delivery? Or are they actually more than one thing?

I guess it can't hurt, but I really don't understand why Apple is pursuing this sort of gimmicky stuff.

Can't we just get new Macs already?

You expect innovation at every announcement. Jeez. Give it time. Just wait until iPhone 8. It'll be innovation in abundance. That'll shut you up.
they should better enhance existing apps like Photos and make them better ( or PRO for iPad Pros). So many features missing after nearly 2 years since announcement.

I hope the Mac does get more love from Apple, though. It's an important part of the ecosystem. iOS is great and goodness knows we have a lot of iOS devices in the family. But tying them all together, grounding so much of what we do as a family, is still a Mac desktop. Apple had the best most compelling ecosystem for a huge range of users. I would like to see them go strong on every part of it, since they do have the money to do so.

I'm hoping once they all get settled in that metal donut they're putting the finishing touches on, that we will see some great things released. Tim has talked for ages about his interest in the field of health and every now and then some news comes out, but I suspect there's more they're not making too much noise about yet.

There's a lot of opportunities, in my opinion, to be revolutionary in the field of health and wellness. A friend of mine knows a family who relies on an iPhone and an app to monitor their son's diabetes. I don't know the details but I think it's great they can do that. I have autoimmune disease and I'd love an app to predict flare ups so I could plan my commitments better.

I know we all poke fun at your enthusiasm sometimes but it's nice to have a balance of views.

I hope this "smart sharing" feature comes to Photos and other apps.
