How is this different than iMovie?
It seems like a stripped version of it. Or they will cancel iMovie in the future?
That interface looks very lame in the screenshot.
Does anyone use iMovie on their iPhone (or iPad for that matter...)?
I used iMovie on the iMac many times (Final Cut Pro X nowadays - love it for my hobby-stuff), and have tried iMovie for iOS but I can't get used to torturing myself. :p
I assume "clips" is more on-the-fly fun movie-editing-fun.

Ok. Got the idea. Good point.
I use iMovie just to show Android users how much cooler is iOS however I only play those demo trailers... I never actually used it :)))
So yes... good point! :)

The point is there are so many other areas where Apple is falling behind for professionals and they release toy crap like this, which is just insulting. I'm not in the market for a Mac Pro but a new iMac or "iMac Pro" would be great, along with SOFTWARE on the iPad Pro that is, you know, actually designed with professionals in mind.
This is augmented reality v0.9. They are testing the waters with an app they can put out now, to help build and gauge user's interest in AR prior to the big reveal rumored for their next iPhone.

I'm very interested to see what they put in the next iOS version that is required for this app to work.

I do, and I am not a marketing guy and I don't work for Apple.

Good for you sir, please don't change!!!!

You use a specific app to show a restrictive locked down OS is cool? Mmm. Interesting, I'd rather show functional features that allow ease of use however you want to use it, not how the vendor wants you to use it to show how cool the OS is. But hey ho..

what will happen to iMovie? Lol. What happen to Apple strategy
Like Apple, we/they have no clue o_O

It's for the kids Pro sector. I totally agree with you. They need to elevate their OS and put more energy in maps, Siri, iCloud and what not. They're lagging on all fronts and than come up with this and a new color phone... embarrassing is polite.

The app looks fine. For quick on-the-fly videos that you'll post to social media, it'll work. Instagram might swoop in and copy it soon, and when they do their thing, it's usually here to stay. Snapchat stories was a gimmick, until Instagram started their own stories.

Still waiting for a decent video app that is somewhere between iMovie and FCPX that will allow me to timely cut simple booth interviews without all the kludges and workarounds. Something that takes advantage of that "desktop power" in my 12.9 iPad Pro.

But instead... we get, "Clips" for the kiddies. *sigh*

I like this app that hasn't even been released yet but after scrolling through, noticed all the cool kids are complaining.

Apple is doomed!!

Puzzling. Average users don't care about what a device can do for their lives, especially communication-based tasks. Every day I overhear people on the train bemoaning the lack of Macs—these two girls were ridiculing the iMac's 5400 rpm drives.

Those girls don't understand how much heat 7200+ drives put out (compared to 5400) and the challenges in venting that kind of heat in a device like an iMac.

I guess they also don't understand that if they don't want 5400 rpm drives, they could get ones with Fusion drives or, like I've done, all SSD.

The iMac has lots of options. If they're complaining about 5400 rpm drives, they're just looking for things to complain about.

I see Vertical Video Syndrome has been solved. Just make square videos!

This actually looks like a clever little app. Not sure why you would want what you are saying typed on the video though. Unless the recipient is hard of hearing, or maybe sick of your voice!

Has Apple forgotten what they are?
Since the Apple under Cook, so far at least, seems to have a hard time 'shining' with new and exciting products, they must resort to other means of raking in the profits the shareholders have become used to, failing which Tim might find himself looking for employment.

To wit, AppleMusic, Watch bands, confusing product fragmentation, unrealistic pricing on the late 2016 MBP, increased need for pricey adapters and dongles (why no longer an included ext. power cord with laptops?), iMessage stickers, and now 'Clips'. Sad really to see this 'nickel-and-diming' and apparent loss of focus on core products.

Just FYI, I have a 2009 iMac with an internal 7200 RPM drive from Apple.

The app lets users combine videos, images, and music into one seamless video that can then be shared through iMessages, and on other social media platforms....'

So just like "Photos" replaced Aperture, This will replace Final Cut Pro.

I'm half way serious. Apple has been dumbing down their software across the board from word processors to photo editing. I wonder about the future of FCP. These kinds of apps seem to be what Apple is all abut now, writes for the bottom end of the market.

At one time Apple made software for professionals that really was good. Then someone at Apple figured out for for every person how makes videos or records music there at 100,000 people who "consume" the product. So, figures Mr. Cook the bean counter, why not sell to the 100,000 and ignore that one person who makes the stuff.

So we get a video version of Photo Booth likely to replace both iMovie and Final Cut.

It's sad to see Apple's new strategy unfold. It really started when Apple found they were selling more phones than computers, then they dropped Aperture and brought out Photos. It was obvious what was happening, they were dumbing down their product line to go for the mass market

I use it to show how Apple approached the Movie Making concept. No worries, I show the whole OS concept. ;)

Not a bad idea for my personal machine as I've been wanting a gaming rig at home anyway. What pisses me off is how integrated Apple has made the Mac into my workflow with my other devices, and now I feel like they're pulling the rug out from under me. If they would at a minimum develop Messages for Windows then it would make my life a lot easier. But then I'd have to find decent replacements for Coda, CodeKit, Sketch, Tweetbot, etc. At least 1Password and Adobe CS have Windows versions. Oh and Xcode is kind of a big one. I don't do most of the dev work but I frequently test and poke around in builds to debug issues from my dev team as I oversee project management and design for our app—which is secondary to my primary job but still important. But I doubt I could convince my boss to buy me two machines for each OS. Apple can't completely abandon professionals as long as Xcode is needed. These people are designing and testing their apps on the Mac. They need professional hardware or they'll just stop—and that's when Apple is in big trouble! I don't think they seem to understand that their iOS industry is built on top of their Mac industry. You can't just take out the foundation and expect the building to stand.

To run Xcode you don't need a high spec device. My 2013 MacBook Air runs it just fine. It may be a bit slow in creating the build but I bought top of the line back then and it's still awesome.

I could see this as starting with an app and eventually building in social networking aspects depending on how it goes.

The 2009 model also had a significantly thicker profile, edge to edge, than the current species of iMacs. A lot more opportunity to move air around. The modern iMacs are much thinner, more tightly packed.

something like that :)

It's the same on Android though.

You are so right my friend, just do us a favour, move all the app icons from the home page just leaving a blank wallpaper, shouldn't be too hard now should it?? What's that, you can't, as the only thing the OS does is launch apps and is not really what you'd call a full blown OS, no bother.. ;-)

And just for a bit of banter, enjoy the read...
