I tried it here in Shanghai at an Audi event showcasing their history and such and it was meh screen is good but lack of controllers really kills it. As a developer I will probably release one of my VR games on it if Apple pays enough but I can see why even rich people here do not want to buy it. Especially woman (who would get it as a gift in China) who hate their hair and make-up messed up by VR headsets like this especially during the sweaty summer season.
4210 USD vs $3499 in US
4420 USD vs $3699 in US
4630 USD vs $3899 in US
DOA

Gees. In rmb that's even more expensive than aud here. E.g. ours start at 6k AUD and that's 28k rmb.

I can't see this item cracking into the chinese market. Even amongst the rich who can easily afford it. Simply put it's not trendy.

Apple's marketing chief Greg Joswiak today said the Vision Pro will be launching in South Korea and the United Arab Emirates on Friday, November 15.

In a press release for South Korea, Apple said the Vision Pro will be available to pre-order there starting Monday, November 4 at 10 a.m. local time. In another press release, Apple said pre-orders in the United Arab Emirates begin on the same day at 5 a.m. local time.

Apple now has localized Vision Pro and visionOS 2 pages in South Korea and the United Arab Emirates with more details. In South Korea, Apple said customers will be able to schedule a 30-minute Vision Pro demo at an Apple Store in the country. Apple said it plans to share more details about this experience after pre-orders begin.

Apple first released the Vision Pro in the U.S. in February, with pricing starting at $3,499. In June and July, the headset launched in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, the U.K., China, Hong Kong, Japan, and Singapore. With the additions of South Korea and the United Arab Emirates, the headset will be available in 12 countries and regions.

In July, research firm IDC estimated that Vision Pro sales would total less than 500,000 units this year. In a recent interview, Apple CEO Tim Cook acknowledged that the Vision Pro is not a mass-market product due to its high price.

"At $3,500, it's not a mass-market product," said Cook. "Right now, it's an early-adopter product. People who want to have tomorrow's technology today—that's who it's for. Fortunately, there's enough people who are in that camp that it's exciting."

In the UAE?! Now that's funny.. that place has been selling it for thousands of dollars more in the black market, at this point, whoever was the target market (which is quite small) already has one. UK/US iCloud account creations probably boomed internationally due to the limited official availability of the Vision Pro.

With the news coming out that they’re actively working on an M4/M5 version they’ve already alienated their remaining potential customers (such as myself) because this current iteration is far too expensive when it’s already obsolete behind closed doors. Like, why doesn’t this have Apple Intelligence yet? It has more than enough power.
News has not come out, just rumours. You really should not be looking at a rumours site if you do not want to be told that Apple is working on new iterations of their current products, as that is verbatim what Apple does as a business.

Honestly, early adopters should be happy that Apple is working on a newer version, because, if they are not, that means it is soon to be obsolete and obsolete products get few updates or new software.

As for Apple Intelligence... yet? Wasn't the initial, limited rollout just 3 days ago? AI is very much still a work in progress. Vision OS is also still a work in progress, and it is hard to integrate two fairly quickly moving targets. It is logical that it will end up on the Vision Pro, but not that AVP would be the first Apple product to have it when it seems like they have more basic OS stuff they are still working on.

I think it would not even be a success for $500. People just do not want a device controlling their whole field of view. People do not want their eyes to be tracked. Especially when watching adult content. Ads are even more intrusive in such a device.

At $500 many would buy it just for fun.

For a product that sells slowly, they seem to take a very long time to broaden the market. Doesn’t seem to be a priority to get many out. I guess it truly was a beta product to see what developers will do with it.

These “it should be $500” comments really make me laugh. What can $500 buy these days? A 3 year old iPhone?

When you break it down - a base model 16” MacBook Pro costs $2499, the AVP has double chip sets (yes I know M2 vs M4, but still. The MBP was M2 at the point of announcement), R1, 16gb RAM, and two screens that are universally renowned as being one of the most technologically advanced displays in a consumer device.

This is a gen 1 product crammed with new tech. It’s Apple, it’s got its issues, but most of what it does it does remarkably well. Working hands free with infinite screens really is a game changer, for me anyway.

$500 will get you a crappy Windows laptop…

I was interested to get one. It’s still not available in my country. Now, as a potential early adopter, I’m not interested anymore like a year after its release.

It's been available here in Australia for a few months now, and i honestly don't know a single person that owns one; nor have i ever seen anyone use them in public.

Admittedly there's zero hype about it; i've never seen any advertising for it. If it weren't for the fact that i'm on this forum; im doubtful i'd have even known it was a thing.

Edit: Had a quick look at the apple website to make sure it actually did launch here; and yep.
But i can probably guess why no one owns one

You don’t even see it on display at the Apple Store here in Berlin like you need to ask for it and then they take it out of a wooden shelf

Maybe if they released a lower cost version, it would have been better.

It's called "Pro" for a reason. Not intended for consumers. So maybe Apple is making the mistake of trying to sell directly to consumers instead of marketing to specific "professional" markets, such as doctors, engineers, etc.

A non-Pro version is already in the works, but the technology is so advanced, a Pro version gave them the flexibility to push boundaries. They didn't want something that would directly compete with existing consumer-focused headsets, such as Meta Quest, etc.

Hmmmm?? Eyes and hands are the controllers, and it's been proven to work extremely well. But it needs to be tuned to the wearer, so I suspect that's why you had a poor experience. It wasn't tuned specifically for you.

Good point! But a lot of their “Pro” products also sell to consumers, so it’s easy to look at it from a consumer point-of-view…. I think if they played the long-term game, things could work out for them.

I don’t understand all the hating. Yes, it’s an expensive niche product. If it’s not for you, don’t buy it. I don’t see the same level of vitriol for the Mac Pro or the Pro Display.

Simple-mindedness. The Vision Pro doesn't have a direct competitor, so they are comparing it to existing consumer-level headsets that are "good enough". Hence the Vision Pro is pulled down into the same category and suddenly has a way-high price.

You're absolutely right. Apple execs have already stated that they are in this for the long haul. They are not worried about a "failed" first release because they are looking 10 years ahead.
