Finally The Apple Watch May Become Useful With Native Apps

How did we ever survive these six long weeks until Apple finally released the watchOS 2 to the developers?

(They've since changed the headline to "The Apple Watch May Actually Become Useful With Native Apps" - - though the original wording remains in the url.)

Is the profile on the dev portal? I haven't been able to get iOS 9 yet, refreshing my phone furiously at the moment :)

Refreshing your phone? You have to download the iOS9 beta through the dev portal and install it using iTunes. The dev portal has instructions on how to register your watch for dev using xCode.

Most pointless post ever.

Not at all.

He's confirming several reports from people all around the world that have stated a dearth of people around the watch tables in Apple Stores, even in busy stores. It means that there is no question that the Apple Watch is, indeed, a failure for Apple; all that remains is to see the size of the failure. Is it a hobby, like the Apple TV used to be, or is it a Newton-sized pull-the-plug failure?

No mention of Apple Watch numbers by Cook; if they were stellar, we would certainly have heard them by now.

Same here, my Mac Developer membership expired about 2 years ago but I can still download OS X releases, are you sure you can't do the same by going to resources, OS X and then download? It gave me a redemption code which I used in conjunction with my Apple Dev ID in the MAS.

In a sneak move that seems to be timed for WWDC, Mac Developer, iOS developer and Watch OS developer are no longer separate subscriptions, they are all one and the same.

Several people!? Around the world you say?! Good lord didn't realise it was that bad. I best sell mine whilst it still holds some value in that case. Definite failure.

P.S I note every negative post in these forums is followed by a 'Benjamin Frost likes this'. Cheer up.

It is odd that there were no numbers released. I thought for sure we'd see a big number posted at WWDC to get the developer community interested.

I think they have a lot to grow on and a lot to learn on the Watch. I don't think it's a failed product launch by any means, but just not up to the success of Apple's big hits. It might take them a few iterations to really make a compelling mass market product...not unlike the iPod.

They announced pretty early on, maybe even already last year, that they won't be publishing sales numbers of the Apple Watch. So, nobody paying attention would really be surprised about it now.

So if im not a developer i wont get watch os2 or is there a way? I have ios 9.0 for iphone 6 plus. I havent been able to find any info online about how to get the watch os2 on the watch

Boring. Mostly things that should have been included in the first Watch OS
It's a great piece of technology but limited

Yeah, the fact that they announce a software update less than two months after shipping it speaks volumes. I know it's somewhat just a consequence of opening up native app development, but the real question is - why weren't native apps there from day 1?

The software is half baked.

I was at my local store this afternoon and then iPhone had the most people looking, along with some browsing iPads and Macs. Guess how many were at the watch table? Nobody.
This is very true,I confirm this.
I have an Apple store nearby so I visit it often,I've never seen more than 1 or 2 people near that watch display table, even at busiest times.
Meanwhile there is always noticeable crowd trying iphones, ipads,Macs.
Even the now dated Macbook Air was getting much more attention than the watch.
The Watch is a failure comparred to any Apple product released in the past decade.
No body is interested,it's just an accessory for iphone,it's ugly, over priced and limited.
I predict it will remain something "hobby" grade, like Apple TV.

1) The one or two or even ten Apple Stores that people walk into at some random part of the day to see "no one" at the watch table by no means represents the success or failure of a product. Have you been to a Samsung section of best buy? It's almost always a baron wasteland but I think their products are pretty successful. I have been to a number of different Apple Stores and have seen the table both packed and empty.

2) How can the watch be a failure when compared to any apple product released in decades when by all estimates it is going to out sell both the original iPhone and iPad? Both of those products went on to see great successes. Also by some estimates, the Apple Watch has sold more in the first six weeks than all other smart watches combined. Even if that's half true, I would say it's a success.

On the other hand I don't know why they haven't released numbers, if they were "off the charts" then they probably would.

Your second to last statement is pure hyperbole and opinion. Whether or not it becomes hobby grade is yet to be seen but I doubt it. I never saw Jim Kramer from mad money talk about an Apple TV but I have already seen him dedicate two segments to the Apple watch since March.

Is there a possibility that because you can't actually buy the item in store that not many people will crowd around the table?

When the iPhone has been released for the past few years, it has been hard to get for a couple of months after launch. Yet the Apple store was loaded with people crowding the displays to play with the phone, so why not for the watch if the popularity is off the charts? Ditto for the iPad Mini.

I only posted what I have seen at 2 area Apple Stores and obviously I have no idea what goes on elsewhere, but I will say that one of the stores is high volume and always busy.
