The intent of the contest is "shot on iPhone", not "shot on iPhone and then edited to death with third-party software".

IMO, all editing should be done on-phone using only Apple-bundled software (like the Camera app). In other words, it should showcase what anybody could (theoretically) produce using just an iPhone.

imo, entrants should follow the rules of the contest.

But feel free to hold your own contest and set whatever conditions suit your fancy. You could even ban post-processing altogether.

While I have no problem with edited photos (so long as they were taken with actual iPhones), it would be interesting to see what each photo looked like before taking it to editing.

I reckon Henri Cartier-Bresson would be very happy with that twist on one of his images in that top image from Dina Alfasi

iPhone is not a camera platform, it's an app store platform. Not including works created using software and editing in a digital art contest or exhibition in this day and age is pointless.

“Apple announces a contest where they don’t properly compensate the winners” would be a more accurate headline....
"Apple throws out submissions by photographers demanding to be paid for VOLUNTARILY entering their photos into its contest" would have been a much better move by Apple and a much better headline...

Wow. I didn't realize you could post produce the hell out of them to win. I thought it was supposed to be a natural shot without any gimmicks.

Then you obviously didn't read the Shot on iPhone Challenge Official Rules, did you?

Photos can come straight from your iPhone or edited through Apple’s editing tools in the Photos app, or with third-party software. If edited, you must state what apps or filters you used in the image comment. No hardware other than your iPhone may be used for taking the picture. All entry information and Photos shall be collectively referred to herein as the “Submissions” or each as a “Submission.” Submissions must comply with the Content Restrictions defined below. Sponsor reserves the right to cancel or modify this Contest in the event an insufficient number of entries are received that meet the minimum judging criteria. [Emphasis mine]

First of all, "shameful" seems an odd choice here.

More importantly though, it says ZERO about limiting iPhone models in the contest's rules. Not sure your source on that one, but you're incorrect. Shameful.

The prizes were awarded to phone models 7 up, or the current Apple line up.
Apple used the filename, which included the contestant name and phone model number, to exclude older phones from participating.
How can ten entries fail to include winners from at least any one of iPhone models 6, 5, 4?
Complete marketing exercise for Apple who had a tough end to 2018.

Do you state any actual facts when you respond on here? Or just throw **** at the wall and see what sticks?
It’s a little curious that Apple never explained what the license fee is. You’d agree.

I have my favourites but the are all beautiful shots.

Of course all of them could have been shot with any camera or any smartphone. They have no movement as it would be expected. You would need other type of cameras or a lot of luck.

More ****. Still no substantiation.

I don’t know what the licensing fee is, so I haven’t made statements postulating that I do. If I had a working idea based on evidence and logical inferences, I’d state it with my reasoning and support.

To sum up, I’d agree that neither of us knows, but one of us is full of it. Shameful.
