Possibly, but apparently the early announcement is to allow preparation for traveling to a different location. I still think there'll be a March event.

Don't you still have to ballot for a ticket to be able to attend? I guess it's always better to know earlier than later, but how do you plan for a trip you aren't even guaranteed of being allowed admission to in the first place?

all I really want is the 4K ATV. I'm good with everything else for a few more years.

That may not even be on the cars for the March event. Rumours state that March event will see new iPads, I can see this because the 12.9" Pro hasn't been updated since it was announced in September 2015. The 9.7" was then released in March 2016, so it would make sense for them to announce in March. There are also rumours of a 10.5" bezel less design.

On the 9th June is the keynote for thr iphone 8 and will be released on the 29th

No we won't, WWDC is for developers and we don't see products announced there, we haven't for a few years now. Also the keynote will be on the 5th of June for WWDC.

Actually, unless you need face time with Apple engineers, it really isn't anymore since all the content will be live streamed. The opportunity for networking is always good, but you can go to AltConf or any of the evening events that occur during WWDC to accomplish the same thing.
I see your point about AltConf, however I stand by my statement. The times I have gone have been well worth it for the networking alone. Not to mention the great help I have received from talking to the Apple engineers on issues I have had with my apps. Opinions being opinions and all.

Haven't found better sleep medicine than contemporary Apple keynotes. Ive's voice in particular is the perfect late night soother.

I guess this announcement negates the march event, no?
I don't get that impression.

What Apple just said was "Hey guys, heads up that WWDC will be sixty miles (100 km) south. We're letting you know now to give you time to research travel." No one has a confirmed WWDC badge yet so it's not like everyone is going to book flights and hotels.

And WWDC is increasingly a software focused event (primarily iOS and macOS). It's primary audience is developers, not media.

Apple can most certainly host a media-focused product announcement event before WWDC. Remember, apart from WWDC, Apple events are invitation-only events for a media audience.

$1,600 for a ticket. LOL
What's so funny? This is well within the range of similar week-long developer conferences. Google I/O is similarly priced as are Oracle OneWorld and Salesforce's Dreamforce event.

In fact, Apple's WWDC is on the cheap side at $1600.

I would be pleasantly shocked. If it comes out at all it'll be in a fall event.

Ming-chi-ko has said a March event is on the cards, he's not 100% nothing ever is, but he is very accurate. The last couple of years we have had a March event so I'd be surprised if they didn't do the same this year.

No keynote on march?!! Wth?!
Apple said no such thing. They simply announced that the widely anticipated June WWDC was taking place sixty miles south of where it is usually held. The early announcement of the venue change simply allows developers to research travel options before the ticket lottery.

I don't think one can infer anything about the scheduling of possible media events from this WWDC announcement.

The WWDC keynotes in 2014, 2015, and 2016 did not include any hardware announcements. In addition to the anticipated announcements of new versions of iOS and macOS are now new unveilings of new developer versions of tvOS and watchOS as well as programming tools such as the Swift programming language. There have also been announcements about planned new services like Apple Music and the enhancement of existing services like Messages, Siri, Maps.

Remember that WWDC is not when the new iOS or macOS are finally released. They are made available to developers as developer betas and remain so for several months before the software is ready for a general public release.

Leaving out new hardware announcements at WWDC actually makes sense. WWDC's audience is software developers. Apple's smaller product announcements have an invitation-only media audience.

Thus, it is highly likely that there will be some sort of media event either before or after WWDC that focuses on new hardware. Unlike many other companies who are swayed by event schedules (like CES and E3 or the now defunct shows like Macworld and Comdex) Apple is not constrained by any event timetable to announce new product. They can schedule a media event at any time for a product release.

I agree, it's about what we personally enjoy. I am no Apple fanboy. Most of my devices are Apple, but I own non-Apple tech as well. I own an iPad mini 2 and it's the single most disappointing device I've owned in the past 10 years. It's an awkward size, underpowered and too little RAM. I really wanted to like it, but sadly I don't. Have a good day.

I have the 1st generation of mini, it can't be updated to iOS 10 anymore. I use it to read books and PDFs, which is really great since it is larger than iPhones and is light to use. I believe every technology has its pros and cons, including those with Android OS. At the end of the day it is our money and our needs that the technology can meet. But sadly a lot of people are criticising other's decisions when they are not using their preferred OS. :/

Yeah but why this early? What happened to announcing spring keynote?

I was hoping Sierra was a smaller release so they would bring iOS 11 and macOS 11 together.

As I wrote before, this announcement was likely just a courtesy to developers so they can research travel plans.

Saying where/when the WWDC is taking place doesn't mean that they can't have a product announcement event at a different time. Apple runs WWDC once in early June and multiple media events every year. Each event is separate and not reliant on others.

For example, announcing to your buddies that you and your girlfriend are planning getting married in late June doesn't mean you can't have a barbecue with your softball team on Memorial Day.

Do you know how Apple has been announcing media events for product announcements for years? They send e-mails to the invitees. If you're not invited, you don't get an e-mail. They don't issue a press release saying that there will be an invitation-only media event.
