An opportunity to build some better Tele-conferencing functionality. Need something with chat and video.

FaceTime evolves into a true Microsoft Teams competitor tying in iCloud and Apple document suite of apps.

Actually a teleconferencing WWDC will be interesting..

FaceTime is evolved then it could finally force Apple to use 1080p cameras I. Their laptops!!

Oh I don’t know. I’m hearing the pros spouting misinformation when they’re clueless about who’s infected. But let’s just spout off flawed death rates anyways. Doesn’t matter right?

Cmon mr science. This stuff matters. If I turned in reports with inflated numbers like the WHO and CDC churn out I wouldn’t have a job.
Which public health officials, epidemiologists or virologists are you listening to?

Let’s get this stuff right!

There'll be an audience. It’s very easy to fill the Steve Jobs Theatre with Apple employees who are known to Apple and are already being filtered according to possible contamination. Unlike the typical large auditoriums during WWDC keynotes, the Steve Jobs Theatre only has 1,000 seats.
Santa Clara County has placed a ban on gathers with 1000 or more people. Therefore, at least one of those seats will have to remain empty.

Will they play applause track when Tim Makes announcement on new products?

It will be interesting, because this is the first time they will have a conference that does not follow the "Jobs formula"

Does that include employment buildings? If Apple doesn't invite the public, then everyone there are all just working. 12,000 people work at Apple Park.

They did mention they'll have a keynote, so that apparently rules out what I initially thought they'd do. Something like Nintendo Direct, just an hour of Apple's slick intro videos. Less fluff like developer demos and more straight to the point, "this is iOS 14 and some of its new features" extended trailer.

Presenting without an audience would defeat the purpose of presenting in the Steve Jobs theatre. This is why I think they'll fill those seats with employees who are already medically vetted to be working at Apple Park anyway.

You are making the grand assumption that the cities and counties will lift the event bans by then. The bans are listed as "short-term" but who knows.
It would have been unwise for Apple to plan an event "hoping" for a rule change.

The virus is overhyped in U.S and the situation is not as bad as ITALY. Therefore, the likelihood of a severe outbreak from the conference is less than 1% by allowing developers only from America or Canada.

(a) America's confirmed infected # is only "low" because a **** ton of people who may be infected aren't tested.

(b) You do realise what the 'WW' part of WWDC stands for right?

Don’t be naive. The US infection numbers are doubling every three days. That is almost exactly as bad as it is in Italy, just a couple of weeks behind.

I think this is because the very 1st Mac was introduced the same way.

So we have:
- an announcement card looking like the back of a MacBook, with stickers, hinting at some kind of new MacBook
- a "Hello" sticker, hinting at some kind of significant Mac announcement
- a "2020" sticker in Apple Watch font, hinting at a new Apple Watch?

just think how the internet has changed our lives
was raised from spin dial phone to vac tube tv sets - now internet connection for the masses
cool it gives capability to meet online for everything - just about
timely in this day and age and virus control

Damn. The keynote is not going to be the same without the applause from the audience.
they should create a digital audience with all that where planning on going. Now that would be interesting to see. Everyone at home on a video call into the event.

From Apple's planning perspective, it does not matter. Apple needed to make an announcement soon. The only question to ask is, "Based on what we know today, will we be able to have a conference in June?"
Considering that there is a ban on conferences in San Francisco and recognizing that the city of SF owns the Moscone Center, the city might not have given Apple enough assurances that the event would be able to go on.
Regardless, this announcement saves Apple from the challenges of cancelling and it saves attendees the cost of dealing with a cancelled event.

Note: I had to cancel a memorial service for my dad that was planned for next Sat. And a conference that I was to attend next week was just cancelled as well. There are losses of time and $$ when things get cancelled

For people who are still developing using only Apple's first-party tools, you should look at Flutter and the Dart programming language. Basically, it's a universal abstract platform to generate native code for all platforms.

No thanks. Flutter, Electron, etc. produce lowest-common denominator apps that don't fit take advantages of platform specific features. All of the niceties, accessibility, and other OS-specific features conventions are either much more difficult or impossible to implement using these cross-platform frameworks. Plus they use much more memory than using native APIs. And when there are bugs, you often can't fix them yourself and have to wait for them to be fixed. Those are fine for prototyping from a website, but if you want to make really great apps, use the native APIs.
