Apple really should consider buying up as much ad space as possible on TV and Cable just so people can see objectively decide whether this absurd hysteria is even remotely justified. People need to lighten up. It’s a shame to see a company whose innovation has enabled so many creative opportunities to happen bow down to elites with absolutely nothing better to complain about, while there are ACTUAL atrocities occurring all over the world that are being ignored every day by these same people. SMH

It did make me cringe but because I thought it was wasteful. All those useful things now going to landfill. Some people can't even afford some of those things (like the piano) and Apple just went and crushed it.
Did they? I couldn’t convince myself it wasn’t CGI.

Sigh… People are watching it wrong 😑

I'm a bit shocked that Apple apologises for this. I feel very sorry for the team who worked hard on this ad.
I encounter that all the time at work. When something cocks up, even if it is not directly attributed to me, there's always a learning point and something I could have done better or differently in hindsight and that's a learning point for me.

Sometimes, it's easier to just say sorry and move on even if you don't think you are at fault, than try to argue with the other party and risk souring relations even more (especially when the people you want to pick a fight with are potential customers and developers). Even if you win the argument, in the larger scheme of things, you have lost if you end up damaging the integrity of your brand in the eyes of users.

The whole idea is outdated and poorly executed. We’ve known about device convergence for decades. We’ve known about Garage Band and Arcade and all the other things Apple hints at in the ad. It’s the kind of commercial that little companies make, not Apple. Instead they should be talking to their core consumers with some level of respect and maturity when announcing a product aimed at a specific segment.
You aren’t wrong! LG made this exact ad in 2008, just without the dystopian lighting and creepy destroyed objects trying to stave off impending doom

apparently all those against the ad totally forgot about the ad where they were destroying kids items against the iPhone to show how tough it is. where were you?

or how about when people were randomly slamming stickers on every person they could find. how come you didn't call out "but that's harassment"?

oh but it when apple seemingly crushes random tools, it's outrage time? lol

Jesus, really? it's a good ad. we ACTUALLY going to be complaining about this?

PSYCHOTIC? REALLY? lol ridiculous.
An ad should never make a large number of people feel "ehhhhhh", which it did with me. Hugh Grant was ridiculous tho (he has a twitter account? Who cares?)

Why apologize? What's happening to our world? It seems like nowadays, someone can get offended by just about anything, even a simple commercial.
To be honest, I have seen more people offended by the perceived offence rather than people offended by the app. Seemingly both groups are two sides of the same coin, whereas most people probably don’t care either way about some tech company’s latest ad.

The ability to read and interpret visual images is more important now than ever before. The content we’re discussing is inadvertently sending a message that is contrary to the one Apple intended it to send. A message that seems to contradict Apple’s entire approach to creativity. Now, clearly some people aren’t equipped to read these images and understand their implications. But that doesn’t make them go away.

In regard to your examples, they’re not apt. Those ads had a clearly articulated message that the creators were able to get across. The issue with this one isn’t that Apple “crushed some stuff.” That’s drastic reductionism that misses the point of objections to the ad. The issue here is that the ad sent the opposite message than what Apple intended.

As far as pulling the ad goes, Apple did the right thing. It didn’t just turn off random people. It turned off its target audience. The last thing Apple wants to do is alienate creative professionals. Why would Apple stand behind an ad that appears to thumb their noses at them? To satisfy some political agenda or sooth the feelings of those who have one? No.

Can people stop crying about literally everything?

I would have sent them a F.U. + Laughing Emoji letter to all of those that got offended LOL

People being offended by this are idiots and they should be ignored.

Fake indignation over a trumped up charge? No one was offended. How many times do we have to point this out? 100 times? 1,000 times? Offense isn’t the issue.

Following the "logic" of the advertised message, next year the sequel of this ad will show the current iPad Pro (a concentrated creative tool) crushed in order to squeeze out the next best iPad ever for creatives.

So silly. Of all the things to complain about. Seriously? Talk about mock outrage. 🙄 I’m a “creative” and I didn’t find the ad offensive at all. It was just showing in a fun exaggerated visual way how all these artistic tools could be found in an iPad. What’s the big deal? Wait until Apple jumps on the A.I. bndwagon. 😂

There is no outrage. People need to stop making that empty and false charge.
