Are they though?

The narrative of big tech ruthlessly trawling the entire Internet for every piece artwork/text/image/sound known to man with no regard to artists, writers, musicians, etc., for the sole purpose of copying and replacing them all with apps and plugins is very real and has been a hot button issue for at least a year or so.

It's solely on Apple for being out of touch with public opinion and making a mockery out of art and craftsmanship just to sell its latest product.

The elite taking the tools out of the hands of the artists and replacing them with software is a valid reason to get "mad".

And if Apple can't take the heat for masterfully turning these fears into a one minute ad then maybe it should stick to its usual bland script of just showcasing its latest "best ever" consumer electronics products instead of trying to be artists themselves.

And it doesn't matter if they pull the ad or not, as Apple's public relations won't change anything about what Apple's true intentions are.

You can't backtrack when you hit a nerve this big, something relating to much more than just Apple. The cat isn't going into the bag again.

Apple just revealed their true face again. How little they care about customers and people in general.

It is unfortunate that someone had the poor taste to cause some wanton destruction of historical artefacts - because that is what it was. High value historical objects.

I do not care whether they want to show it or not. I care that they made it. It made me sad.

EDIT: Just saw the reply above mine - my dislike for this ad is by no means manufactured. It is a terrible ad that shows Apple as destructive. It is distasteful and shows a contempt for the history of computing.
These were high value “historical artifacts”? How do you know it wasn’t CGI? How do you know, if they were “real”, they weren’t stage props?

It’s not like the ad team was crushing a Stradivarius.

Apple crushes their own iPad Pro: Yes it STILL only has 8 GB RAM.
And Apple STILL refuses to put macOS on it, they sell it only with the iPad OS.

Apple do you think that is worth paying $2000+ for? Really Apple?

All the way to soon replacing them with a single consumer product.

Apple has come full circle.

Twitter is filled with a bunch of morons and Russian propaganda bots. Your flood of tweets proves nothing. You’re not on Twitter right now. You’re on MacRumors where no one was offended. The fact that you have to reach off site to find “evidence” to support your false claims about people here exposes the giant hole in your untrue claims. But you did effectively deflect from having a legitimate, forthright conversation. Congratulations.

wow they changed the world for the better. Such unity in the art community. and people who make “ real art” ( the sheer size of the people who say this). whether you like it or not judgement day will come and then I want to see what your humanity is really made of.
you are talking about the art community full of nepotism and people blocking path to lucrative career with the requirement of college degrees when they themselves didn’t get in their positions with one themselves.
please think of the art.
i wish they actually cared.

And do your know why people are offended and outraged? Do you realize what Apple has done?
so you agree that people *are* offended and outraged.

many people on this forum are blasting one side because they thought certain people were strawmanning the argument.

now I bet they're just going to move the goal post to exclude X.

You keep avoiding the relevant questions: And do your know why people are offended and outraged? Do you realize what Apple has done? Will you answer those questions, or will you keep defending Apple?

Uh…

YOU moved the goalpost by bringing in content by people who are NOT HERE in order to make a point about people who ARE.

And yeah. Your argument IS a straw man. No one HERE expressed OFFENSE over the ad. We expressed DISLIKE and SURPRISE that Apple would make such an obvious mistake.

Stick to what people HERE say when talking about people HERE. It isn’t legitimate to expect us to defend Twitter users of all people. Demanding we do is utterly disingenuous on your part.

wrong.

the topic that I brought up was that some people said one thing and I said that thing is false and I provided supporting evidence.

you then replied to me asking about do I know why people feel XYZ which is completely irrelevant to the topic I brought up.

if you agree that they were wrong then I'll move on to the next topic which is to answer your questions. if you disagree then let's discuss that.

No, you know that isn’t true. You accused people on MacRumors of being offended when there’s zero evidence of that. Then you went to Twitter and found some offended people and claimed that proved your point about MacRumors. It proves nothing of the sort. In the meantime you continue to deflect from legitimate concerns around the ad in favor of doubling and tripling down on a fundamentally false charge.

So you don't care about the truth at all: The ad is dystopian, Apple is trying to replace our real and natural minds with fake and artificial minds (AI).

It was an awesome ad, it made you feel something.

Having worked in advertising most of my professional career I can tell you with some confidence that feeling “something” is not the goal. Anyone can make you feel “something.” The goal of this ad was to make people feel inspired to buy a new iPad and create on it. It failed to achieve that goal. Instead it accomplished the opposite goal.

Many have said that the ad makes them feel depressed, worthless, and powerless. I guess that was Apple's goal, and Apple proved again that they're customer hostile.
