Upgrading what now? Why would Apple upgrade the equipment for CBS, Fox, ABC and NBC? Why would they upgrade the broadcast facilities in 32 stadiums to make them 4K capable, or buy the mobile production units for the previous 4 bohemoths? These are productions of those networks, they wouldn’t be broadcasting anything - they’d be rebroadcasting those companies feeds.

Sunday Ticket is a massive money sink. It doesn’t need to be a bigger one. Most games are free over the air - your target market is out of market fans for other teams, who will often watch their game they can’t see then likely revert to broadcast after. The only way DirecTV possibly makes a dime on the paltry 2 million subscribers it gets, is by selling them the whole TV package. That’s what Apple wants. To offer it for much cheaper than DirecTV charges and target higher than 2 million additional subscribers.
In my age group, 35 or younger… I don’t know a single person who consumes over the air media.

Anecdotal. Yes. But it says something to me at least.

I just don’t know why Apple can’t make it a separate add on lol. I know they like the idea of one flat fee, but this seems like a no-brainer.

I think the better value and option is for Apple to consider acquiring rights to the NBA. The league in the younger demographic 18-35 is trending higher while the same group is trending lower when it comes to the NFL.

I’m now an old fart and I have lost interest in the NFL and watch pretty much the NBA games. There’s more action in one NBA game vs an NFL game.

Consumers who don’t want to pay are irrelevant. As they should be.
Then the NFL along with all other sports are dead to me. These ppl are charging 150$ per year (here in Canada) which is absolutely ridiculous. All about the happy medium, these sports leagues are running rampant with pricing

I would rather they offer a sports add-on for $5/mo. Then people who don’t like sports won’t have their rates jacked up eventually, and people who do like sports can get a pretty good deal. I love football and would happily pay $5/mo for Apple TV Sports.

I really want Apple to win this one. The user experience could use so many improvements. Especially all the weird blackouts on “local” games, even though you technically live out of market in an adjacent region that is considered “in market” even though none of the TV stations reach your house because of the range limitations that were introduced after the switch to DTV. I’m not gonna buy a $100/mo cable TV package just to watch football. I will just use a crappy pirate stream! But I’m willing to pay a reasonable fee for a consistent, high resolution stream that doesn’t get blacked out.

Well have you seen player salaries? Someone has to pay for those, and it sure as **** isn't going to be the owner. Fans cheer on when a guy signs a $300 million contract and don't realize they'll be paying that salary via higher tv subscription prices, ticket prices, concessions, etc.

If apple pays whatever the NFL wants why does it matter what they charge? They just want to double dip so they can keep the prices high for all of their other networks that pay them. They are as bad as ESPN with their pricing and demands.

That's true but only if the fan goes to the games. If you stay home and watch it on TV or at a Sports Bar, you don't pay for their salaries.

Oh wow! Reading that article was interesting. Thank you for correcting this error! I didn’t realize that someone could point out a mistake and that person admit they were wrong on the internet. And? No expletives!

Who offered these players these wages in the first place? They offer them the money and then foot the bill to the fans? Even more reason not to watch

It doesn’t matter to me whether it’s free or if they charge an arm and leg. Hell, I don’t even care what streaming platform the NFL decides to go with. I’m still going to watch just as many games as I always do. None.
The only time sports bug me is when they are in a LiveTV streaming service that doesn't make them separate, so the pricing spikes

This is mostly the same as other pricing. The fans with money coming our their ears don't care about the price. They have the $$$ so they pay, driving up prices up so the less well off fans can't afford it anymore.

I'm 50, and I don't like the cable companies because of the stupid equipment and the ridiculous price spikes periodically. Not that the live TV with many channels are much better today. Was great when they started at like $30-40 but now they are at least double. We just do our Frndly and bounce amongst the movie ones. If something we want to watch comes on, we sub a month. $5 is probably still less than digitally renting a movie anymore, plus you can watch whatever you want for the rest of the month. And we also have D+, Hulu, ESPN+ included with VZW, so we are set for like $10/month.
