I really wish Apple had a CEO with the balls to tell both Epic and the EU to **** right off. I guess now we can violate contracts all we want to without consequences.....
1. The EU is a virtual government. They can impose taxes and fines. And they do.
2. Apple is a Publicly Traded, which means it is required to work in the interest of its stock holders, not commenters saying they should have balls.
3. Apple always try to work within the laws of wherever they are. Sometimes they need to vary their business model to suit. Not everyone has the same laws, and economy of the U.S.

There are comments with genuine thought and there are simplistic ridiculous comments.

Not in my country.

Honestly, who can complain that USB-c is standard or that we and app developers have a choice? I guess the reluctance to EU enforced laws is politically driven reaction rather that a rational one.
Lobbyists and a Market Economy for the markets WITHIN the EU.

Why is Apple hosting it in the App Store? Is Apple getting anything from it? Isn’t side loading now allowed in the EU, why can’t Epic just host their own app and people install it from Epic’s website?

I wonder what Apple's profits are in the EU - are they more or less than the fines the EU imposes. Maybe Apple should stop selling in the EU for a while and see what the EU then does.

I also wonder what the EU will say when one of these imposed app stores puts infected and dangerous apps on iPhones so that many, many people's have many issues and lose lots of money
They’ll blame Apple. Duhh

I don’t blame Google, just so we are clear. I know the ability to sideload apps on android also carries with it the risk that people may end up installing the wrong apps (sometimes with disastrous consequences).

That’s why I am thankful that with iOS, Apple made the conscious design decision to not give their users sufficient rope to hang themselves with. This is a constraint I went in knowing fully well the implications of, and it’s something I have come to embrace subsequently.

What is life ultimately, if not a bundle of trade offs. You pick your poison, as have I.

How expected. Epic has acted like a child for years, it makes sense they'd threaten to run and tell the teacher.

Those that install this crapware deserve everything they get.

Spoken like a true bully. I guess in your view the kid getting harraaaed on the playground should keep their mouth shut and avoid letting the authority know what happened.

For me, I'm happy to see the bully have their rear handed to them. Don't like it? Then follow the rules.

I wouldn't mind actually if Apple pulled out.

And AppStore itself is riddled with iffy crap only underlying that THW whole process of selection is simply a tool to undermine competition and nothing else...
Curse the EU for this
LMFTFY: Praise the EU for standing up for consumer rights <3
Glad I’m not in the EU. Don’t want to have to defend against that Epic Malware.
Darling, noone would be forcing you install it.

It's like people that are against gay marriage... that don't get that if a guy would propose to them they are not obliged to say yes and marry him... but they are so happy to deny the choice and ability to rondo to others because it doesn't fit their narrow mindset...

The EU is Apple’s 2nd largest market.

A revenue of almost 100 billion is worth fighting for.

Say what you will about Epic and Tim Sweeney but he went to war with Apple and won. Most developers don't even dare speak ill of Apple even if they think they're getting the short end of the deal. Not Epic. They took this thing all the way and now even the United States is considering taking an anti trust stance on Apple. Governments decide who can operate within their boarders. If Apple doesn't want to follow the rules they get their income cut off.

It’s pretty wild someone can be this out of touch with reality.

Good to know. Was expecting it to happen. But not interested in an Epic Games store.

I hope Epic wil do their free game of the week on their new store as well. They did have some blockbuster games free on PC the past years.

If they do that pretty sure they will gather some install base and it will be good competition to Apple Arcade as well.

They will probably do some exclusive deals like Netflix has been doing with games.
