Is someone still into this game? I played PUBG and maybe after a month or two got sick and tired of it. When I launched Fortnite I literally quit after a minute – too complicated and dumb

Apple made a huge error fighting Epic. The EU DMA will eventually expand to other regions, including the US. If they softened their (some very arbitrary) store rules, they could have avoided this. But they were too greedy.
Are you saying Apple should have treated Epic differently to every other app developer?

I agree with you but I also think Epic got greedy. Let's see how Epic will treat their customers on their store. But, this market should be opened for PlayStation and all limited ecosystems

You realize that iOS is a bigger target by orders of magnitude, right? And that it was designed to be more secure after lessons learned from OS X, right? But sure, it’s the exact same thing.
iOS can stay designed for security as it is.
Why is Apple hosting it in the App Store? Isn’t side loading now allowed in the EU, why can’t Epic just host their own app and people install it from Epic’s website?
That you should ask Apple.
Is Apple getting anything from it?
They get the ability to review it according to their own rules be petty and throw wrenches into competitors' stores.
This is the EU's latest revenue stream, disguised as 'Consumer rights'
It's not a revenue stream at all, as long as companies abide by the law.

It’s ok. I am in the EU and I literally do not mind all these changes. For one I will be still using my iPhone as Apple intended, and so is everyone I speak. I am very curious if this with alt app stores catches app as many people I believe will not bother installing them.

Fortnite is one of the most popular games in the world with more than 200 million players logging into it every month. That you couldn’t get into it and had 0 patience to figure it out means literally nothing at all.

Seriously Epic? Eat dirt. No one wants your terrible junk software. Epic games store on windows is absolute trash - why would anyone in their right mind want to download epic games store on iPhone?

Edit: unreal tournament was awesome though.
Epic provides free games though. I don't know if they do it anymore, but they used to. Also, it worked fine for me.

For people who don’t have an actual life…

I hope Epic wil do their free game of the week on their new store as well. They did have some blockbuster games free on PC the past years.

If they do that pretty sure they will gather some install base and it will be good competition to Apple Arcade as well.

They will probably do some exclusive deals like Netflix has been doing with games.
They will probably not provide a free game of the week due to additionally having to pay Apple 0.50€ above 1 mil installs for apps.

This is actually great. I have no intention to ever use their App Store for real, but I‘ll surely download it just to Sweeny Boy has to pay 0.50€ for my singular download of their App Store. Might even set a reminder to re-download a year down the road for another chip at their revenue.

I encourage everyone else to do the same, every first install of their App Store costs them 0.50€ (unlike normal Apps on 3rd party stores, App Store Apps have to pay on the first and not the millionth install).

Why are so many Americans against consumer protections?
We’re against governmental overreach, at least some of us still are. And this feels like unelected, unaccountable, bureaucracy picking winners and losers in the marketplace. Maybe this will end up okay with folks not wanting the other marketplaces on their phones able to continue to enjoy the level of security and privacy baked into the Apple ecosystem, an offering that runs counter to the current scoop data and sell model of so many other companies. Or maybe the barn door is open and things get reduced to the lowest common denominator on mobile platforms.

"I want other people to have less choice"

Huh? The closed option remains. Just don't install other stores.

The EU represents a sizeable chunk of Apple profits, what you propose would tank Apple’s stock and enrage investors. Also it would be completely pointless as the EU couldn’t care less if Apple sell or doesn’t sell their products in the eu, only cares about the fact that companies comply with the law.

The EUs profit for the App Store isn't that high. If Apple gets a $64 billion fine it will evaporate the entire profit in the EU and more.

No worries, the EU will soon force Apple to scrap that fee, and probably the more fees are paid the bigger the fine Apple will be forced to pay 😎

People acting like they need to use this or are being forced to. If you don't like the big bad Epic and want Apple to hold your hand and keep you safe then you can stay in your little safe bubble and listen to what Tim tells you.

I think this is cool. Shame I'm not in the EU :( Hopefully Apple is forced by other countries to do this.
