I can’t see myself wearing goggles out and about so I’m not too fussed about any delays.
This isn't really an "out and about" device. It's supposed to be on par with other VR headsets, with an emphasis on work and entertainment. It's not going to be designed to stroll around with it.

But that's Apple's (and my) wish, because there exists already enough stationary VR stuff (which already has its exciting days behind it).

Folks complain when there's no product rumours here, and when there's product rumours folks complain the product isn't out yet.

I would rather have fewer MR articles so I don't have to read the same thing forever. The ratio of "new product rumor" to "wireless charging report" is felt to be 1:1,000.

Anyone else nervous about the prospect of having a device actually strapped to their head like this?

I don't use my phone at my head where possible, I put off an Apple Watch and AirPods (seriously, do some research on the radiation from those - it's quite alarming). But next to the soft tissues of your head? Brrr.

Yes, that is an interesting aspect. Opinions will differ here.
On the other hand, everyone is cheering about 5G wireless performance, then they will have to put the glasses on their nose as well.
I probably will too, until the science worries (I really mean science and not overzealous cautionary missionaries and busybodies).

Oh no doubt but thats not what Apple does. They enter when they can make a product that works for the masses. Look at the folding phones, Samsung released a 2000 phone that needed to be recalled and taken off the market in a week. Its all about getting it right not being first.
That is definitely Apples strength, or was at least. Smart phones, tablets, mp3 players, watches, none of them invented by Apple but all created after with serious refinements and worked in a way that most people just got.

That being said with VR, I can't see Apple coming out with anything that would shake the market. They would obviously be expensive, way more expensive then the Quest 2 which is a solid VR that pretty much everyone can afford and requires no computer. It really is a great package and in generally all works really well. I have the original Rift, have not used it in a while as being tethered to a computer is not the VR I had hoped for, but what I did find was the app store was easy to navigate and use, both in and out of VR. The Quest 2 can sync to your PC if you have a powerful one, to play higher end games using your PC's power, all without a cable. Plenty of accessories and plenty sold. Not sure what Apple really could bring to the market in VR other then better screens and a silly price tag. AR on the other hand is something no one has figured out for the masses yet and would make more sense for Apple in my opinion.

We saw this with first and second generation computing (ENIAC and UNIVAC), Mainframes, Mini’s. Eventually the Apple I, IBM PC, Macintosh 128, PowerBook 100 > Newton > iPhone/iPads > Apple Watch.
Don't forget ILLIAC in 1952 (a Ridenour - von Neumann development) at the University of Illinois.

So basically the rumors were wrong and to cover their you know whats they trot out the delayed because of development issues canard.
We'll probably never know if that part of the rumors was accurate at the time or not. This should just remind us that rumors are not verified. They are a mixture if inside information and extrapolation informed by experience in the space. Some of the hardest aspects to nail down are timing, pricing, and names as those can change quickly.

Some of us find it interesting to see where the indicators are pointing and speculate about the meaning, but expecting them to be totally accurate or that situations won't change after a rumor, will just lead you into frustration.

To compare this with the Air Power situation is incredibly dumb. Apple is pouring infinitely more engineering resources into this major project than ever went towards that very unimportant accessory. This thing will ship, only question is when.

Disclaimer: I personally have no interest whatsoever in buying this headset.
How do you know exactly how much Apple is putting into anything?

We all already have internet to find, don't we?
However, since Apple has more plans for wireless and somehow uhm.. designed pair of glasses, it will take a while.

And be sure: Not only prostitution will be depopulated, there are really exciting new applications besides.
Are those glasses Apple? No? He was referring to Apple VR ?

Yes, another app store! Hopefully it will be just as popular as the mac app store or watch os app store!

Hmm, thermal issues. If the thermal issues are due to the camera + display then they'll be tough to fix. Camera sensors heat up after a while, and displays can throw off a surprising amount of heat. I know the 12 pro max's camera doesn't like being outside and recording, because of the heat. How this works on a headset is a mystery. Is it specced to work outside?

Uh home run after the iPhone? How about the AppleWatch best selling watch in the world, How about the airPods which generate more income than many Fortune 500 companies and this product alone generates just shy of the income Tesla generates from cars sales!! I would consider those pretty big homeruns!!!
I'm not disagreeing with those at all. If anything it's more to my point. Apple has a well-deserved reputation as a home run hitter. I own and love all the products you've listed. This is why I'm wondering if Apple has cold feet about this VR/AR headset. It could work to spoil that reputation if it's not a huge hit. I have no doubt that they'll make great hardware... it's how compelling the use cases are that raise alarms for me. I have an Oculus Quest and never use it. Beat Sabre, Superheat VR, and Google Tilt Brush are fine demos but they're not worth $2K at all. I'm crossing my fingers this is another iPhone moment... that all the current VR things that are out are the Blackberry headsets and Apple's about to show us something that feels like it's a decade ahead. That's a big bet. Another iPhone is a tall order.

There should be a posting rule for this: Due to the vaporous nature of these rumours only members with less than 100 posts may comment.

But I can tell you for sure Apple surely doesn't want a fan in these units! ? Steve Jobs would haunt them for doing such a thing. So thermal issues seem about right and this is perhaps believable. But you would think before thermal issues arise you'd have battery life issues since you are heating a chip up that much anyway. Headsets would have a small battery I'd imagine, not a lot of room to play with.

Also if you thought battery swells were worrisome in a laptop, how about a headset!?

Can’t wait to wear the first gen Apple AR/VR headset while riding in the first gen self-driving Apple Car in 2023. That should be fun …not!!!

I was expecting this. The rumors keep pushing back the launch day of this for the past few years. Wasn’t Kuo saying the glasses would launch in 2020 a few years ago? Same as Apple Car. Who knows if either of them will ever launch.
