Apple today announced that eight new games will be added to Apple Arcade in November and December, including Disney Dreamlight Valley Arcade Edition, Football Manager 2024 Touch, Sonic Dream Team, Puzzle & Dragons Story, and more. In addition, Apple said over 50 games available on the service will be receiving updates over the next two months.

Details about the upcoming games and updates can be found in the Apple Newsroom announcement on Apple's website.

Launched in November 2019, Apple Arcade is a subscription-based gaming service accessible through the App Store. The service provides subscribers with access to around 300 games across the iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV, with new titles added periodically. All games available on Apple Arcade are free of ads and in-app purchases.

Apple Arcade received its first price increase in many countries earlier this month. In the U.S., the service went from $4.99 per month to $6.99 per month.

Apple’s relationship to gaming is really weird. It seems like they’re always on the cusp of embracing gaming only to refuse to pull the trigger on any real gaming moves. It’s odd that a computer company like Apple has gone all in on services and their own streaming service while gaming seems like a secondary consideration.

With the technology they have in Apple Silicon... it's just completely bizarre that this is all they have on offer with regards to gaming. Yes, there are ports of blockbuster games such as Resident Evil etc... but they are in the minority. Even Apple TV as it is could be running so much more than this...

Are the same team that developed the Touch Bar, in charge of gaming on Mac too??? great technology, extremely poor use of it.

And to think folks were saying Apple doesn't understand gaming! Puzzle & Dragons Story, Dreamlight Valley Arcade Edition... I hope this puts to bed the notion that Apple is not all about gaming.

I can't think of better titles to show off the groundbreaking Apple Silicon hardware.

The illusion that it's about superior hardware is a misconception. It's about money. Until Apple sets aside sizable cash to 1) subsidize game development, 2) buy gaming studios and 3) employ sizable staff focused on Silicon gaming- exactly LIKE Microsoft & Sony do- big games will not come.

Game developers want the very same thing Apple wants: maximize revenue & profit. The best way to do that is to keep taking the easier and much more lucrative money offered by the current players. It is NOT a "build it and they will come" proposition. It's simple dollars & sense.

How many video exclusives does the AppleTV+ service get without Apple allocating a few billion, putting dedicated staff on managing that content dev, etc? None. There is no AppleTV+ service without the budget & talent allocations.

Where is the AppleTV+ equivalent for Apple gaming? Think that through and it's easy to understand why gaming struggles on Apple hardware.

I think every subscription that I have went up in price in the last 12 months. I'm so tired of it. Time to reevaluate what I actually need.
I think most people should be doing that soon if they aren't already.

For our family, we have a "core" set of streaming subscriptions that we either use daily (or almost daily) and/or that we have access to for free or at significant discounts via some existing subscription or service we already maintain apart from the streaming service (e.g., Amazon Prime Video, Paramount+ via Walmart+).

The only time we revaluate our "core" subscriptions is when pricing goes up or restrictions / changes are added that negatively impact our usage or perceived value of the subscription (for example, we dropped Netflix when the location restrictions went into effect because we maintain two homes so that change cut the value we saw in the service by half). Otherwise, we leave the core services on autopilot and just enjoy them.

For any of the services that don't fall into the above category, we simply subscribe for 1-month at a time to catch-up on whatever shows or movies we want to see, and then cancel for 4-6 months and rinse and repeat.

The only part of Apple One I don't use, the Arcade service. Wish Apple would create another tier where you can select between Arcade and Fitness+; or something to that effect. Doing them individually still costs more than Apple One.

I am putting my money that the next Apple TV will be their serious step into gaming

Whenever one of the services I use increases prices, first I look for alternatives. Failing that, I think about how much I need/want that service, and is it still worth the price. If I deem it worthy of my hard earned money, I then look at other services, and re-evaluate whether I feel the same about them.

Right now, the increase in the Disney bundle is making me think I really don't watch UFC enough to justify ESPN+. I really only watch The Incredible Dr. Pol on Disney, and there's only so many prolapsed uteri and choked gullets I need to see. Maybe I'll just keep Hulu. I've already downgraded Netflix from the Premium to standard. Their content is not worth paying extra to see in 4K. I'll keep Apple TV+ and iCloud+ for sure, but all their other services have equivalents at lower or no costs, even with the AppleOne bundle. Rethinking whether I still want to watch the wars, murders, violence and incest that is HBO Max. Probably not. Keeping Prime (for multiple reasons, although now seeing commercials showing up is getting annoying), Peacock, and Paramount.
