Not renewing my Apple Arcade subscription after the free trial period is done. Very few games of interest... I’ll stay with the Nintendo Switch for games.

Same. ****** selection of cartoon games. The games are not syncing saves in the cloud so whatever game levels I reached on iOS aren't on Catalina. Steam could do this years ago but Apple with all their offshore billions can't even do this.

Don’t wait until the free trial is over, cancel now. You don’t want to forget and then get charged for the next month.

Already cancelled after trying most of the games that I kept hearing people rave about...Like Oceanhorn2, which some people compare to Zelda... Except, it is nowhere near the quality of any Zelda game, and I've played them all.

So far was very UNimpressed with Apple Arcade. There are a few ok games but overall the quality seems lacking. Maybe in a year or so it’ll get there, some large releases will be on it, etc.

For now I can see most doing the trial and cancelling.

Basic cartoon graphics because most Mac GPUs are mobile chips and will throttle. We not going to see some bad ass ultra 4K graphics or ray tracing there anytime soon.

Games are definitely syncing to the cloud, works fine in about a dozen games I tried. Maybe the one you tried was having issues or more likely you're not logged into Game Center for some reason.

If you can't find a single game you like out of the 60 or so games they released so far then you probably don't play indie games and you weren't going to subscribe anyway.

So you played Oceanhorn for like 2 minutes, watched like 6 or 7 videos for other games, then decided the whole thing sucks... Well played.

In case anyone didn't know (I didn't), Catalina has native support for Xbox One and PS4 controllers now and they work with Arcade same as iOS and tvOS.

are we able to pair one controller to multiple Apple devices? Whenever I do that it defaults to the last device I paired to and I have to repair with a new device.

Afraid not. That would need some sort of hardware implementation from Microsoft or Sony.

I think the quality impression varies quite a lot between games.

For example, while I quite like the game play of Hexaflip one can see that it's a ”free to play” game that has been stripped from in-app purchases which kind of drags the overall impression down in my opinion. Sayonara Wildhearts gives a very good impression I think, except that I on the Apple TV version see button instructions for the Siri remote despite having a controller connected. 🤔

So, while some games seems quite at home as being part of a paid subscription service, some currently doesn't go all the way. But the good thing with software is it can always be improved and Apple Arcade was just recently released so I think it has the chance to do well, but more holistic view is needed in some cases I think.
:)

That’s super annoying. I’ve got a DS4 dedicated to Apple devices but I’m not gonna buy 3 for Mac, ATV, and iPad. Do Mfi controllers handle device switching better?

Nah, MFi controllers are the same. It would be pretty cool to have one that can switch easily - I have 3 controllers on different TV's but it's still a bit cumbersome when I want to play multiplayer on one screen.

Thanks for the info. That's gotta be the next step. Apple can't expect people to have a separate controller for every apple device they have.

Playing Oceanhorn 2 on the iPad and then moving to the ATV should be way more seamless than it is. Right now I need to tell my iPad to forget the controller from last time I played, re-pair to my iPad, play, turn off the controller, tell my ATV to forget the controller from the last time I connected, re-pair to my ATV, and now I'm finally playing again.

I wouldn't be surprised if they launch some $69.99 AirPods esque game controller with a W series chip down the road if Apple Arcade sticks around.

dude those options are ON by default and even 6 year old kids today know about game cloud syncing.

Many people have had the same problem as you. I think you are also supposed to enable iCloud Drive too, but most people won't realize that because they think iCloud Drive is a Dropbox type of service. The OS doesn't even give a handy message to users about how to do that and the Game Center system preference pane is sparse with no information.

So you have to enable iCloud, Game Center, AND iCloud Drive. Not a good solution. Steam doesn't force anyone to sign up to online storage cloud.

The bigger problem I'm seeing is that Apple Arcade games download to the default Applications folder. You can't put them in folders like on iOS. You can't store your games on an external drive. If you quickly run out of disk space you have no choice but to delete games or perform some hacking scripts (that Apple frowns on) to change default directories.

True, being cajoled to use cloud storage just to get game syncing is a cheap shot and Apple storage upgrade cost on the Macs make installing many games prohibitive if we can't install games on a second drive.

Nah I played Oceanhorn for like 30-40 minutes, as well as about 10 or so other games for extended period of times. I really wanted to like the service and the games, but when the games are generally very boring, there's no point in trying. I hope the quality goes up in the future, as I'd love to have a selection of quality games that can be played on all my iDevices seamlessly.

Basic cartoon graphics because high end realistic graphics are beyond the development budgets of these kinds of indie titles. There are plenty of similar looking titles on PC and current gen consoles where the GPU isn't a problem.

No matter how many people rave about something, it’s not necessarily relevant to you (or anyone in particular). Even if Apple had 100 million subscribers to Arcade, that doesn’t mean everyone will like it, and that’s ok :)

FYI, I've played Oceanhorn 2 for over 12 hours and am around 40% completion. 30-40 minutes doesn't provide you with much insight into the game. The initial island with the Pirate Cave is really just an intro for the basics of how to use the controls etc.
