I think you can run all offline. Just download any of the 100+ games to your favo Apple device and roll. I think $50/y is a bargain for so many games but since kids conservatively did not want to play even one of them yet...

yep it’s a bargain. Problem is it’s not a bargain after spending on what the kids actually want which is Xbox and steam. Just no interest here. Same with atv+. Or news. None of this is compelling compared to competition.

No it didn't. Atari VCS games averaged about $30 back in the early 1980s (when Asteroids was released). God, people exaggerate so much to try and prove their point.

Key word being "average"...that's your mistake. Licensed arcade games like Asteroids had a hefty premium when they were 1st released back in the 1980s. You also might want to consider that you're responding to someone who actually purchased Asteroids for VCS back in the 1980s. It was $50.

That is most certainly UNFAIR pricing. The US pays USD49.99, and that translates at Apple to GBP49.99, EUR49.99, and CAD59.99. What a joke...

The brits are getting penalised majorly, and so are the EU customers. However, the Canadians are getting a discount.

USD49.99 is: CAD65.59, EUR44.82, and GBP37.46.

They’re selling a price point they think will look appealing to customers. The actual value is secondary

I LOVE oceanhorn 2... other than that nothing much has compelled me to even try...

Try CatQuest 2, despite the name, it's a really fun action RPG. (As is the original.) But after finishing that, and once I'm done with OH2 (55% complete now), I have no idea if I'll keep it. Nothing else there intriguing yet!

I don't play that many games on my phone (maybe just solitaire) so why give apple 50 dollars a year when I'll not use it *¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Do you only play solitaire on your PC or TV? Apple Arcade isn't limited to your phone.

Apple arcade was very underwhelming. I'd be happy to pay $5 a month (or $50 a year) if it offered decent games, but sadly most of the games are mediocre at best, with very very few exceptions that still don't justify the expense, however small that is. If they have no intention of including better games, the value of the service is (for me) 5 dollars per year, intended as the price I'd be willing to pay for what it offers. I can't help but compare this to XboX game pass, that I gladly pay for, and what it offers… about the same number of games, but many of those are AAA titles, and just one of them alone justifies the subscription price for a whole year. Apple arcade doesn't have any title like that, it really has to do a lot more if it wants to be appealing.

Not interested in arcade, but if they would offer a reduced annual subscription for Apple Music I'd be very interested.

I wish Apple would give you the option to buy Apple Arcade games individually. I don't want to sign up for another subscription.

What the Golf has been an amazing mobile game, it's sort of like Warrio Ware with its always changing gameplay styles. If you stack an iTunes gift card deal on top of this and have a family account this really is a great deal.
Marble it Up is also a great game if you have been a fan of the Marble Blast Ultra series.

And with Xbox/PS4 controller support in most games plus AppleTV and Mac support you have a lot of different options for playing.

Yeah, noticed it too yesterday, while cancelling my subscription. Too casual, to derivative, too similar looking games, as of now. I had my fun playing through Grindstone, What the Golf and that one where your repair things, though. But found nothing that grabbed my attention afterwards. I'll look into it again in half a year or so. But really, for the less money, I can get iOS-ports of old games, that each offer a lot more depth and playtime than the whole Apple Arcade experience. Plus, for the same money I get two big games for my Ps4 each month. I still like small games, but considering those options, Arcade isn't worth it for me at the moment.

I'm sooo burned out of subscription services. I try to limit them. Between music, TV, razor blades, gaming, news, etc....it's too much. On topic though, yeah my kid played 0 games on this the first 2 months. I cancelled.

I'm still in the 1-month trial. Loving Sneaky Sasquatch the best, so far. Not sure I'll renew.

Right? I'm in the same boat. There has to be a subscription bubble that will pop, eventually...wouldn't you think?

My kids had no interest in the games... I cancelled after two months. Might try during Christmas again. They are into Steam and Roblox.

the problem remains that after launching with like 70-80 games and then weekly releasing games until at about 100 total it has slowed to a trickle over the last 6 weeks with only 1 or 2 new games. I'm concerned the library isn't going to be very fresh for very long and your kids won't find things much different when they tried during the first two months...

Was just about to jump on this, but...

Wife has a 2009 Macbook - no go.
And a first version Ipad Air - no go.

Significant?
Buying a Ferrari and getting a $15,000 discount off the asking price is my definition of significant.

So according to you, getting $10 off a $100 product is the same as getting $10 off a $20 product?

There are lots of fun little "weekend " games that look simple but are very challenging with lots of content.

Here are some that I'm currently playing and a mini review

What the Golf : Super charming and fun take on golf. LOADS OF UNIQUE LEVELS TOO
Bleak Sword: Very eery atmospheric, easy to play , hard to master dungeon fighter.
Sayonara Wild Hearts (Apple game of the year): Fast paced, great music, easy to play, hard to master, great art style
Enchanted World: Charming, VERY challenging puzzles

I think once you actually get in and start trying out games you'd find many that you like. Personally all this for $5 per month has already been paying for itself. In 3 months I've been playing 5 games with more on my list to play/try out.

Every game has unique style, charm, difficulty curves, story. Those seem to be the common themes which Im guessing was apples requirement.

I have a PS4 for my games, I have little interest in playing iOS games on my tv

I am encouraged that many of the games are taking advantage of newer hardware. Remember that the iPad Pro benchmarks like an Xbox One S, not bad! :) Call of duty mobile is not everyone's cup of tea, but it looks particularly good on modern Apple hardware. So this means that we're past the point of 'playing mobile games on a tv' since many of the multiplatform games available on iOS play at the same quality as a PS4/Xbox.

As an example, Sayonara Wild Hearts is a well reviewed indie game that plays the same on iOS/tvOS as it does on PS4, and Switch. It is included in Apple Arcade, and sold for $14.99 on Ps4 and Switch. But to your point, one can just pay the $15 on PS4 instead of playing it on Apple Arcade.

If I could buy 300GB of iCloud storage I might consider this. Currently I had to move from 200GB to 2TB at a cost difference of more per month than this service. So they are already getting my money, just not for games.
