Trial ends immediately upon cancellation.

There's actually quite a few decent games there. I'm impressed. I normally avoid mobile gaming like the plague due to all the IAP garbage, but this will have me doing some gaming on my iPad.

Because I was unaware it would not launch on all platforms on the announced launch date? Had no idea we’d be waiting until an unspecified time to use it on tvOS, hence the surprise in my initial post.

Spend $5 when it comes out on tvOS, see if you like it. If not, cancel.

Love Patterned, Lint. and Word Laces for some relaxing, gentle puzzlers. Grindstone is also worthwhile, especially if one has enjoyed Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes on XBOX 36/One. Will be keeping Apple Arcade subscription going here (Along with Apple Music Family Subscription, 2TB iCloud storage etc)

Do they have any match 3 games like candy crush? I'm currently downloading iOS 13 but its taking forever on my X 😭

Apple should give Mac, iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV buyers one free year of the Arcade service. Like the TV service, I'm not excited enough by this offering of what has so far looked like basic mobile games to start paying a separate monthly fee for it. Especially if these are the same games the Mac will be receiving.

LOL... giving away Arcade subs WOULD materially impact Apple's earnings.

Never be this eager to install brand new iOS like this time lol.. All because of a subscription service.

Yes. Just set Reminders to cancel on the last day.

So you have to download each game separately within the app store? I thought this would be some closed ecosystem where you launch the arcade app, and then all free games are available for playing/downloading within that app.

Have a feeling it will be evolved into streaming (+ download like Apple Music) in the future. When that comes it will be its own app. Think Apple just testing the water here.
Hopefully when that time comes we will also get Achievements in Game Centre.

Excited to try this out with the family.

Your iPhone acts as the controller for many of these titles I presume? That will be very nifty!

Or if you have a wireless controller like the ones for the PS4 or Xbox One you can just pair them with the Apple device. There are also other bluetooth game pads that work as well.

We had achievements before - I didn’t even know they got rid of them.

Not that I’ve found so far. The Arcade tab in the App Store is in sore need of being able to search or browse by gamma category; trying to find all of the puzzle games so far I’m having to rely on forum posts, web listings and browsing through the game listings one by one.

Not having Arcade in AppleTV sucks, but I had a cable to plug my iphone into the TV and since most games on arcade seems to support game controllers, you get a very good experience that way. It's a little like having a game console in your pocket. I only wish there were TV Play or Arcade Play when you plugged your iphone into your TV, so you get a TV UI and can start and exit apps with your game controller.

The 2 games I've tried so far are pretty fun. I am super disappointed with the way they handled it though. I figured Apple Arcade would be it's own app and then inside of that app would be all the arcade games that you could then download and install. Having it be a jumbled mess inside of the App Store under the arcade tab is kinda feels like they threw it together last minute.

You can search by category. When in the Arcade tab scroll all the way down to the bottom and you will see a bunch of categories.

Categories are as follows

  1. Family
  2. Multiplayer
  3. Action
  4. For Beginners
  5. Puzzle
  6. Adventure
  7. Role - Playing
  8. Platformer
Hope this helps you out!

Trialed, tried a few games, they feel like flash browser games from 10 years ago. Will cancel.

Oceanhorn 2 is awesome. Also like Lego brawl. Everything else doesn’t interest me, but that’s fine. I hope there will be more games with the graphics of Oceanhorn in the future. Or even better

So the best games will be on Apple Arcade - shame as I don't want to pay another monthly subscription. I would rather pay for the game up front without ongoing costs.

What if I download a game and later decide to stop the monthly subscription - I lose all access to that game??

Very smart by Apple. It will get people hooked on games, not wanting to lose progress etc, and make them feel like they have to pay the monthly subscription all the time!

And so they are! I don’t remember the categories being there on Tuesday’s ‘soft launch’. Time to start looking through the puzzlers over and above the two gems I’ve been playing all week. Thanks for the pointer 👍

You can still by them separately on pc/console for $10/20 each :)

And if you stop paying for apple arcade you loose access to the games, but I doubt you loose your save file. If you subscribe after 6 month you should be able to continue where you left off.

I'm glad they went the netflix routem not ps plus route where you have to be constantly subscribed to get the games (they drip feed 2/3 per month and if you are not subscribed during that month you don't get the games)

Can I buy a single game for iPhone without subscribing to Apple Arcade?
