I phoned apple care, told them I had the antenna issue. He said he has to transfer me to his supervisor if it's about that.

When the supervisor answered he asked me in detail how it happens. He got me to do it while I was on the phone with him. He said the reason for this is that he has to forward all the details to the engineering department.

He then said that even though it's a hardware issue, the engineering department are working on a software fix for next week.

He said in the mean time he will send me a free bumper. However, he then said I might get the software fix before I receive the bumper, Monday prehaps?

Apple are on top of this, even though jobs thinks its not an issue- it's clearly become one.

It doesn't seem like Jobs was aware of the death grip issue at the time he wrote that before the big launch and was probably referring to the general issue that cell phones have with signal degradation. We'll see though. I'm sick of the same two or three related jokes coming up 200x-300x a day like they were the first ones to say it. Come up with something new at least.

Yup fanbois keep making excuses for him.

I was afraid of this. Going to try and mask a design flaw with a software blanket. Something will take a hit. My prediction is Bluetooth signal degradation.:apple:

We are so lucky to have so many electrical engineers like yourself hanging out in these forums.

Yeah, they should all be applying at Apple. Because it they're right, and it's a design flaw that can not be fixed, effects every phone, and every person will run into it, then there's about to be a lot of open positions at Apple.

That's what they did for the G and GS. Why not also do it for this one :p .

I'm glad someone besides me remembers this fact - they remapped the bars on the 3G/3GS to alleviate people complaining about not having enough bars and big shocker everybody stopped complaining.

I'm just going to return the one I already had shipped to the Apple store and use the free one. I may be out the $4 shipping but might argue for some iTunes credit or something. Worst case I craigs list the bumper for $25.

Huh, today I was told it was a bad batch of phones without a coating (which I'm not sure I believe), and that I can get a new phone. How can they fix that with a software patch?!
