I've long wished Apple would work on a journal device - The Tablet seems to be going down the road of a 'big iPhone'.

How does it seem to be going down the road of a "big iPhone"? Did you see one? Did anyone else here see one? let alone know what it can and can't do?

Can you do sophisticated word processing and image editing on your iPhone or iPod Touch? how about easily reading newspapers customized for a larger screen with a subscription service built into iTunes? Wouldn't that be nice?

The way you guys are so sandboxed and short sighted is mind-boggling. You are not the first person on this board that make assumptions and put down a product that NO ONE has seen yet. You didn't even take the time to think what a bigger and more powerful multitouch-based device can offer you as compared to an iPhone.

While I certainly didn't see one or know what it will or won't do, I can see that a larger multitouch device offer a lot of possibilities and ideas that simply are not possible on a small screen like that of the iPhone. And it is not just about the screen. A device with a larger surface area means it can pack a larger battery and house a much beefier CPU. Which means it can make use of CPU intensive tasks such as, say, motion tracking.

Think Different folks. Think Different.

If the best use Apple can come up with for a multi hundred £ device is to read electronic newspapers, no doubt on an overpriced subscription service, then they've got a mighty hard sell on their hands. The device will have to have infinitely more use than that to justify it's existance.

Due to the signs pointing to iPhone OS on the tablet, people may assume that it will only have the functionality of a larger iPhone.

I agree with the rest of your post, and while I expect the iPhone OS and (default) apps to be adjusted/extended somewhat for the tablet, even if it's the same it may not necessarily mean the tablet is useless.

Is it just me or does the new, unconfirmed Apple Tablet sound a lot like an iPod Touch with twice the screen? What will it offer that iPod Touch doesn't except maybe better specs?
It is just me or does the 17" MacBook Pro sound a lot like a MacBook with 4" extra screen? What will it offer that the MacBook doesn't except maybe better specs?

That may be one feature (and the most well-rumored one) but that doesn't necessarily mean it will be the only major feature upon announcement, or the most significant feature for that matter.

All I know is, if this product is true, it BETTER be able to playback HD content. It's a no sale if it doesn't.
