Right! Because monopolies are so awesome!

Apple Asking Resellers to Triple iPad Display Space. Not forcing. Asking. Resellers are not controlled by Apple at all. Apple just giving them a heads up because everyone knows Apple is a money making business when it comes to selling their stuff. It is not disgusting unless Apple forced it.

Monopoly? Yeh ok but remember that the iPad was just an oversized toy that wouldn't sell at all in competitors eyes when it first released. They are a default monopoly when they are up against ignorant attitudes like that. People need to stop bashing Apple for this kind of stuff. Apple got a load of success through their ideas so you have no reason to bash them.

My guess is they are going to replace the entire line of Apple products with iPads of all different sizes... 10" iPad, 7" iPad, 27" iPad, 4.5" iPad, 50" iPad, 1" iPad etc. and it's going to be revolutionary and just awesome!

The iPhone and iPad are gateway products that are feeding the halo effect.

It makes sense to intro new desktops AFTER new iPhones and iPads.

There will be far more excitement for the desktops (and laptops) once millions upon millions of happy little hands are clutching their iPhone 5.

Tim Cook is not stupid, and knows this a lot better than many on this forum.

About half of the Macs sold in Apple stores were to customers new to Apple. Why are they there to begin with? Largely because of iPads and iPhones.

Who cares about Mac Pro ? Apple is mainstream now.

I do! Though I'm not buying the Mac pro. But if I can't get a decent computer by apple except laptops and iToys ill start buying other products than apple. Its frustrating seeing desktops are put in shadow. People need to work to, not just play.

Desktop for developpers !

If Apple discontinues Mac Pros, iMacs and Mac mini, what computer will developpers use to make apps for the iToys ?? A laptop ? Let me laught !
Shareholders are running the company now, perhaps the same that ran Palm ou Rim in the past !! Once they have skeezed all they can here, they will leave for the 'Next big thing'. It is only short view, big incomes, no respect for pro !

We need a new iMac and a new Mac Pro, and not in 2013 ! NOW !
You can't develop for iToys with Windows...but you can for Androïd, and the Google OS is selling very very well too...be warned !

Apple doesnt care about people who use computers for real work.
FWIW, I use an iPad for real work. And I couldn't use a Mac Pro for that particular kind of work (not portable). Not that I'm not concerned about how long the Mac Pro refresh has taken, as I think it has cost Apple some pro users. But "real work" means different things to different audiences.

There will be 2 new iPads introduced in September. A 15inch model is also in the works.
I hear a 17" and a 24" will be manufactured when the retina displays are available.
The new superthin iMacs will be announced later and tied into the TV project.

I feel cheated. What happened to the pro stuff lined up for 2013?

:(
It's fine for me personally since I plan to stick with my awesome 2008 Mac Pro forever, but I really feel bad for pro users. Actually, I'm surprised there was ever a Mac Pro because "Steve would never have let this happen." No really, I'm reading his biography (which is pretty interesting), and he always hated expansions on computers. I can open my Mac Pro instantly by pulling a latch. For all Apple knows, I could throw a burrito in there! Silly users.

Yay, I run a tiny part of Apple!

yeah apple tell reseller to get rid of those useless mac minis and mac pros no one needs desktops anymore everyone get an ipad and edit 1080p and 4k video on 10 inch screen device... F***CKK!

did anyone noticed the sarcasm...?

I don't see anything wrong with hiding the ugly pro items and showing the pretty ones. As long as they keep developing the pro items (which they are sadly lacking on right now), pros can go ask for them. Did you ever see an Xserve on display at an Apple Retail Store? Apple wasn't originally a pro company, as you may know but have forgotten. They were all about making PCs actually personal.

I'd work on my iPad if it could run programming suites and learning programs like BlueJ.

Browett chasing the dragon!!!

The iPad has reached 55% of Apple sales? With just 15% of the floor space? ... Great ... Why change it! Does Browett think that tripling the floor space will triple iPad sales? This is crazy. The iPad sells itself! It doesn't even need salespeople! If they're rearranging in advance of a mini iPad launch then fine but I suspect this is Browett expanding floor space for Apple's most successful product line. It's a bit like a Dixon's sale person standing next to the wii stand on launch day so that he can claim the success for the high sales was down to him!!! Aaaargghhh! I dislike this man more and more!!!!

Tripling floor space...

For 3 iPad models: iPad, iPad Mini, iPad Nano (formerly known as iPod Touch)

If Apple announced an iPad Mini in September I will eat my shoe laces...

It will be a new iPhone, and 1 or 2 new features for iOS6 that weren't announced earlier in the year... Standard.

Why doesn't apple just ask their resellers to stop selling other products? Oh wait a minute, didnt they already do that before?

Absolutely disgusting..... even more disgusting that apple fanboys applaud this.

removing mac mini and mac pro, man ... is this first stage of becoming a 100% pad and phone company ? At least they are not removing the imac, lets hope this means they will update it also, if not computers in total is completely put in shadows by itoys now.

Just because they won't be displaying the Mac Pro or Mini doesn't mean that they are discontinuing them.

Far more people are going to go in to a store and want to try and iPad than one of the desktops, therefore it makes sense to cater for this demand. If you're buying a desktop, especially a Mac Pro, you probably know what you want before you enter the store so there is less need to try it out. Also, just because these items aren't on display doesn't mean that there won't be a demo model that can be used if you ask.

As much as Pro users dislike the so called 'iToys' it makes business sense to supply what is demanded.

Not convinced

I'm not convinced that the reason behind the moves makes an awful lot of sense.

Sure, the iPad is successful, and it's the one really valuable bit that is small enough for people to likely go to the store to get, apart from iPhones which are just as likely (if not more so) to be bought from the carrier.

Giving them more display space doesn't necessarily mean that you are going to sell more of them though, and even if they do end up taking an even higher share of the sales, that may only be because of a reduction in sales of other units.

With Windows 8 set to really divide the PC market, I would be asking why the computer side isn't shifting more units, which I believe is down to having too few options, and too high prices.

I'm not sure it makes sense to me either. The original report says that Apple has asked resellers to increase the space they use for iPad display and that a reseller has reported that they are working on tripling that space. Somehow that has turned into Apple has asked resellers to triple their iPad display. Perhaps Apple has merely said "please dedicate an extra table to iPads, you'll thank us for it on Sep 13th" and some eager store has decided that they're going to increase that space by three.

And I can understand more space being used for iPad models, but why would you increase the space to reflect sales volume? I'm no expert in the black arts of retail display science, but I can't see my local supermarket saying "ok, 55% of our sales are milk, so we'd better dedicate a third of the store to displaying it."

I suppose Apple are expecting interest in iPads to increase by 300% and need to accommodate all the extra people trying out the new stuff.

Omg!!!!!! Triple the display space???!! This can only mean one thing!!!!!!

The new iPad will not be mini after all it will be the iPad Biggie... It will be 3 times BIGGER!!!

:D Probably not though.:)

You misunderstand. Only designers and coders and renderers get to define the mythical "real" work. People like you and I, who generate income from an iPad, do not.

The "Apple doesn't care about Pro" argument is here again, but surely the point behind the Apple Stores are that they are on the high street, and are designed for attracting the ordinary high street consumer who isn't too bothered about Pro products.

If Apple cares about selling Mac Pros to broadcasters, musicians, content publishers and people of that nature, then this requires a different marketing and selling strategy.

So I don't think that removing the Mac Pro from the Apple Store necessarily means that Apple doesn't care about Pro products.
