Which British newspaper is The Sunday Times' leading competition? Steve should sit down with that newspaper and give an authorised interview! I am sure that would sell a lot more and have credibility*

I met Steve Jobs at Macworld a few years ago. I found him to be a very nice, even humble person, not the egomaniac they are trying to make him out to be. I told him we support him and his efforts to push great innovation. He was very gracious.

He may push hard, he may be a perfectionist, but look at what they accomplished!

Machead33:apple:

He is, but that doesn't stop journalists from creating a false persona to extend the myth of RDF.

All hail Steve

Don't get me wrong, Steve has been great for Apple. But I have to believe that if Steve had chosen a different path -- let's say politics -- he would be a tyrant. A sadistic, maniacal dictator that would sooner enslave us all rather than bend his ideals.

Just sayin' is all.

hmm, I wonder what happens to Apple when Steve does finally leave. There are pretty much 3 scenarios

1. Apple still does very well under the lead of Tim Cook, who has a similar form of leadership as jobs

2. 1996 all over again

3. Steve Jobs has cloned himself, maybe possible :D

I know without Steve Jobs obsession & dedication to get it just spot on Apple wouldn't be where it is today, making quality and beautiful products.

You forgot to mention scenario #4. Apple board of directors hires me as the new CEO and I take personal request for future products from MacRumors members :D.

I see what you're saying bro... but mind you, most broadsheets are all ok. When you start reading the tabloids like The Sun and The Star, you may as well be reading toddler's books. But without the page 3 models, of course.

I love what Steve has done for Apple but even the best leaders need to have well documented and well thought out succession plans in place. Is there only one Steve? Yes! Does that mean Apple couldn't cultivate or hire someone else to fill his shoes? No!

Apple is notorious for this kind of behavior. Thank God they aren't the government. It would be quite the dictatorship with Jobs.

They actually tried to have a book critical of Steve Jobs banned/censored. (iCon by Jeff Young).

Apparently Apple can dish it out but can't take it.

After a quick skim through the article they've given quite a negative view on him. Not very nice really, Steve has changed the world for the better and they are insulting him. Go make an article about Bill gates & how he has stolen everything from other companies.

Yes Steve is a perfectionist & its a good thing.

Microsoft aint perfectionists, visionaries or innovators & that is why Windows is such a bloated & Ugly operating system, they think anything will do, although they do seem to have sort of improved on windows 7, but its still not good enough well for me anyway.

It's a hit piece that Apple didn't like and tried to discourage.

So what? Happens all the time.

I could easily see Jobs as the dictator of a small nation--albeit a very fashionable one.

Fashionable…I’m not so sure about that. What is it about dictators that they wear the same fashion-challenged thing year in and year out? Mao, Castro, Kim Jong-il, Jobs, etc?

Cult leaders are similar, but I wouldn’t dare say anything against Dear Leader. Have I told you about my collection of lima beans that look like Dear Leader?

*yawn* another story that I probably could've saved 2min of my time by not reading...

personally, I'd rather someone like Jobs be CEO rather than the Apple equivalent of a Steve Ballmer (narcissistic or not, at least Jobs doesn't go running around the stage like a monkey on a caffeine high whenever announcing (a) new product(s))... I can respect Jobs regardless of his personality quirks, just because of the company he's nurtured in Apple, and besides- Jobs is who he is, and I doubt there'll be any changes to that "erotic, self-centered" personality of his any time soon.

The "are you a virgin" job interview story is so old. Noah Wyle recreated that scene in Pirates of Silicon Valley.

Hardly news. Hardly newsworthy.

The media at large is the problem here, not Apple or Steve Jobs.

Why would I care whether Jobs is narcisstic, or "arrogant", or whatever other personality trait people attribue to him. I'm not in bed with him and we don't do luch. All I care about are the products. And if Jobs' arrogance works for him and if Apple's "secrecy" and attitude helps to churn out great products then more power to them.

Ah, sure. Sadistic? Maniacal?

My brother-in-law worked for Apple. Jobs can be an a real ass and mercurial, that much is true and not even Jobs or Apple would deny it. Of course, so was Bill Gates, so was Michael Dell, Ellison, and thousands of other highly driven, successful CEOs in tech and other fields (and I've worked for a couple). And these people have made their employees very wealthy if they stick it out. If the measure of a CEO is whether or not someone's feelings get hurt or they feel constant pressure to excel, well boo-hoo. Do your job and do it well because that's the complete and only reason you were hired, and that is what you get paid for. Everyone else depends on your excellence. Not to be average, not to just show up. Highly motivated bosses usually can't stand someone who isn't, and that may be why Jobs has the rep that he does.

That's what I'm sayin'.

Interesting read, however has Steve Jobs actually confirmed he has NPD (Narcissistic Personality Disorder), because if not and if he does not have such a condition, then his narcissism is only part of his ego.

Everyone has narcissistic traits at some time in their lives, but unless you're diagnosed with NPD, then you're not truly a narcissist in the true term of the word, surely?
