Bad on Bad

Crimminy.
Software patents are bad.
Censorship is bad.
This is bad on bad.
Parents should teach their children rather than trying to censor them. The kids will find a way.
Dumb idea and dumb implementation.

Parental control are fine, but it won't work

As others have mentioned, clever kids develop new works and grams to get around. How about
Let's ->O tonight.

Cool

This is awesome.

The internet should be FREE of P&P (profanity and pornography).

I want to be able to surf the web and not accidentally hit sites that hosts these types of content.

Simple solution:
Require all websites that hosts these types of contents to be behind a DMZ and required to use a VPN to access the contents.
:D

This will obviously be optional. And it will be good- I can prevent some pervert from sexting my daughter, either deliberately or accidentally.

What the heck kind of world do you live in???? Children should be raised to be intelligent in the first place??? Did it occur to you that many are raised well but are around other kids daily? Parents can't constantly control who their kids hang around with outside the home. There are other kids that your perfectly raised child hang around that teach them the bad things about sex and how to be disrespectful and how to use some very raw profanity along with taking drugs.

I'd like to know how the heck can parenting a child's mobile phone cause mental pressure on a child? Texting is not something that went down in history, it's a new fad that kids love to use so they don't have to interact with other humans face to face anymore. In other words, they don't need it and it's ridiculous for you to say that it will harm the child mentally for parenting them in regards to their cell phone. When I was growing up a mild punishment meant that I couldn't watch TV and had to stay in my room. You're talking about reducing texting privileges can harm the child? Please!

You're living in an unrealistic world. "Just tell them what is, show them and let them know that you trust them"? LOL. Yeah, that only works on TV. Most kids will take advantage the moment they know the parents trust them.

Agreed. I am a parent. i can teach my children all day long, but if some pervert wants to send them something without their consent, this would theoretically allow me to block that. That would be good.

what are you people smoking?!?!

Parents relying upon companies to parent for them win again and aggravate everyone else.

how does it aggravate you that there will be an "ON/OFF" switch in system settings for a feature that you don't have to use?

WHY is everyone rating negative? You are probably the same people who complain that bad behavior in kids is due to poor parenting, then you complain when Apple gives parents a tool to parent better!! wtf?

Where there's a will there's a way. Can't do much harm, but won't do much good either.

Nobody asked me but I think a better program would be:

1. Text messages can't be saved.
2. Text messages can't be shared.
3. Text messages can't be sold.

Jaw drops, sexting isn't even illegal for adults. Jackasses that made this

Yes

Parents need help, not obstacles and definitely not temptation to go astray. So, the more friendly devices they make, the more we can show our young generation on how to properly use these tools instead of the abuses they can bring.

:D

Just obscure the flucking objectionable scheisse.

Kids aren't stupid. No matter what restrictions you place on their freedom they will find a way around it.

Apple - Facilitating the Nanny State one step at a time...

This about sums it up.

Good on Apple. Kids these days are idiots. Parents need to control them somehow.

Geez. Control your kids through Apple. Will you wait for an Apple anti drug program, teenage pregnancy program etc. before you take your kids in hand? Waht's next, an Apple timeout?

This is a parental control option. Unless you're an adult and mommy and daddy still control you, adults will still be able to sext.

I think Orsen Wells will be turning in his grave. Apple Inc is 1984.

Orson Wells is turning in his grave because of the lack of reading skills by most people in this thread.

This about sums it up.

No it doesn't. My post does.

And so does this one: https://forums.macrumors.com/posts/11223727/

Agreed. No big deal. Don't like it? Don't use it. Want to use it for your kids? Then, use it. Seems simple enough.

No need to rate negative. Unless, you are a little kid.

This sounds usable in more bad ways than good ones! Luckily Apple’s portfolio of patents is massive and full of bad ideas that never see the light, nor were ever expected to. This—at least the most offensive applications of it--is probably among them. (In fact, Apple patenting it may slow down other companies with similar ideas.) Some applications of this, like a custom word list parents can turn on or off, may be taking control away from kids, but not from consumers as a whole: the parents would still be in charge, not Apple!

Seriously Steve?
Let the kids have fun
They're going to hate you if you do this :p

Seriously dude, it's pretty obvious what age you are saying something this ridiculous and it's obvious you'll never be a good parent with that mentality. SJ could give a rats behind if the kids hate him, they're still buying his product. :p

^^^^Truth.

Nope, that's an opinion which does not = my sum;)

1+1 ≠ 3

Kids need nannies because kids have been known to make bad decisions.

This option isn't meant for anyone over the age of 18.
