It's not such a big deal for the consumer. Probably will hurt all their vendors tremendously.

I have had them in the past. Only really felt it was worthwhile for anti-glare or fingerprinting. Dont think it's going to prevent a break, but I dont have any stats to support it.

Funny how the minute there is rumor of apple not supporting a product, all these fanboys suddenly turn against it though. Random justifications for its elimination start popping up. Prior to this announcement, there wasnt such vocal opposition to these products.

Some of you guys are like sheep.

Wow, actually... as anti-fanboy, but pro-Apple as I am, I gotta give this one to Steve-o. Screen protectors do kind of imply a need for protection where is actually not one.

Just banned from Apple Stores, not retail, to make a point. I actually can't believe I'm saying this, but... good call. :D :apple: (me agreeing w/ Apple on something) *takes temperature just to be sure*

Why would Apple still carry them on the web store? They still have the Power Support brand protectors there.

I think they've been thinking about this Ban for some time. The release of the iPad is the straw that broke the Camel's back. Whatever problems these screen protectors were causing would only be greatly increased with those companies selling iPad Screen Protectors. Harder to put on for their employees and Liabilities for those that weren't put on "perfectly" -- Apple needs to have their employees selling product no putting on screen protectors for people.

An iPad version would be murder.

Fantastic! Apple decides once again what is best for you instead of listening to what you want.

If I had used a film protector on my iPod Touch, I probably wouldn't have 5 scratches on it right now.

As Apple are officially saying the screens don't need these plastic scratch covers as their screens don't need them.

Do I take if that the screens are under warranty and if you do get a scratch on one (as you are not using a cover) they will fix it under warranty?

Wow... I have 2 iPhones (my wife's and mine) and we both went the first year without a protector. And then I got one of the anti-glare ones. And I liked it. IMHO it cut down on the "face grease" problem (admit it, you have it too!). Also, while not totally anti-glare, it was enough to make a pleasant difference. Also, to-the-touch I liked it better. The finger action is smoother (again, imho), and ...well... I like it better.

A few months ago, my wife got stuck with my iPhone for a few hours, and realized she wanted one, too.

Oh, and if you clean the screen well before applying, it's VERY easy to be bubble-free.

Of all the accessories they sell at the Apple Store, there are probably more "useless" ones than these.

Comic

because typing and navigating in a iPhones is bulky and slower than an actual hardware device like e Blackberry.

Many people are trading iPhones with Blackberrys because of that and Apple fisrt stept is to blame this sort of manofacturers.

Personally iPhones and iPod touch are good but I have been playing with iPod touchs and the displays sometimes does not get the touch, specially when moving things around and is really anoying.

Maybe I'm really tired, but I found this post to be absolutely hilarious.

I was actually able to scratch the glass on my iPhone and I don't own any diamonds!

I got mine replaced because of case cracks (white case) and put a screen protector on a minute afterwards.

Lesson learned.

This is a bad move by Apple.

Hm... So Apple is afraid that customers may think that the iPhone screen isnt durable due to the existance of these film protectors? Maybe that should explain why my iPhone fell to the ground just ONCE and why my screen is now with 2000 cracks, Go :apple:

I think it's one of Appl'e most stupid moves ever. Way lame, way retarded, way stupid. Crazy shiz. What's up with not allowing people to put screen protectors? Just mad.

They are not saying you can't use one, just they won't be selling them in the stores. It is possible that they actually don't sell that well at the stores and the space is needed for something else. like say ipad stuff

Putting a screen protector on an iPhone is like putting plastic wrap on a couch.

scan0022.jpg

A fully body Invisible Shield I would agree is like doing this to one's couch. However, the Power Support and other similar screen protectors are not even visible when applied properly, and I see no harm in using one. Which is why I decided to finally put one on my 3GS. I hate cases though, and the full body IS.

No, that's like saying I bought a house and I can't stick posters or hang pictures on the wall, or I cant tint my car windows. Sorry, but that's retarded. It doesn't compromise the multitouch input function of the screen in anyway.

My first iPhone screen protector was really thick. You can feel the thickness was like a cover of a regular writing book/exercise book. The other time I dropped a punch onto my iPhone and the film took the impact. It looked like there was a hole on a screen and felt it dented inwards, but after removing the film the screen was like new.

But in any case, I bought my 2nd iPhone screen protector off eBay for 1c (including shipping) so I don't see a reason to buy it at a Mac store.

P.S. They're trying to make all iPhones look the same, both hardware and software (i.e. no jailbreaking, customising etc). Anyone remember that 1984 (just watched it the other day) apple ad where everyone were mesmerised like robots and this woman threw an axe onto the giant screen symbolising apple's breakaway from everyone else?

Well that's annoying. Seems like an example of Apple throwing a fit when a company makes a product to correct a potentially fatal problem with their devices (fragile screens).

Smells like Steve Jobs personally gets irked when he sees anything uglying up his wares. But I bet Steve goes through gear like toilet paper and doesn't have to live with a 4 year old Macbook with faded keys, crumbs in the speaker grill, and wear on the trackpad and wrist rests.

That's not a good step. Screen protectors are extensively used; removing them may harm the LCD screen.

No, that's like saying I bought a house and I can't stick posters or hang pictures on the wall, or I cant tint my car windows. Sorry, but that's retarded. ...

Not a valid analogy at all.

If you want to use your car as an analogy, it's more like your car dealership used to sell aftermarket window tinting, and doesn't any longer. The dealer's not telling you you can't tint the windows, they're just telling you they won't be doing it for you any more, but you're welcome to go down the street to Joe's Window Tinting and tint away.

You can't see the difference?
