Undoubtedly the iPhone 5 (or whatever they market it as) is already under heavy development. After Steve fired the last lot of RF engineers he needs to get people on board who understand function as much as design... You can just imagine the next WWDC. Steve makes a 3G call to Jonnie Ive. "Isnt it magical? I'm actually talking to someone over a mobile network while holding the phone in my hand!". Apple reinvent the phone. Again.

You would have thought that Apple thoroughly tested the iPhone4 before releasing it. I guess they were too busy counting their money and trash talking Adobe.

The hiring process takes a while, so I double these positions will be responsible to fix the antenna issue. My guess is that this new team of engineers will work on reception with the Verizon network.

Anyone else excited by them getting serious with RF engineers? Anyone think RFID might finally make a big splash with iPhone 5 or 6? :D:D:D

go girl go!

one level headed, non egotistic person is EXACTLY what  needs right now!

ps- one "word" of advice- do NOT park your truck in steve p jobs's mercedes parking bay!

Really trying to get that post count up, aren't you?

My thoughts exactly. They're hiring for iPhone AND iPad. They want an antenna to work on two products, not just the one with all the hubb-bubb surrounding it.

The reason for waiting 'til the 23rd of June to post is so that speculation for a Verizon iPhone being designed wouldn't hurt initial iPhone sales for AT&T. Now that the cat has been released, the proverbial bag can make another cat. Marked with a red V and obsolete technology if not released in at least another year and a half or so, and not January like articles are reporting.

Looks like iPhone 5 will have a better antenna.

Yeah, better antenna, but it won't be on the phone...

iPhone 4 = Guy on the left... iPhone 5 = guy on the right! :D

Job description: We are looking for new engineers to replace the current ones, who could actually build antennas into our devices that don't just look pretty, but also work. :D

Just joking, I'm sure the issue isn't as bad as we think it is.

To be honest, I think this is in anticipation to the iPhone inevitably being offered on Verizon in 2011. With the announcement of:

a)rumours of Verizon's LTE network going live in November '10
b)rumours of the elusive Verizon iPhone

Since LTE operates on an entirely different frequency band (700MHz for Verizon) I'd guess this requires some new antenna design. It could also be CDMA compatible for operation where LTE is not available on Verizon's network.

Just thinking out loud. Of course this is all speculation...maybe Apple just needs more experience with antenna design.

Disclaimer: I own 0 Apple products before anyone accuses me of being blinded by fanboyism.

It needn't have anything to do with Verizon since AT&T has also announced a transition to LTE. In AT&T's case, they're supposedly starting the LTE rollout in 2011. So the next iPhone model will probably be LTE-capable whether or not Verizon is in the picture.

Staffing a design team in mid-2010 for a 2011 product makes perfect sense.

And the Antenna was supposed to be their big selling point!

Yup, thats why we're seeing huge commercial campaigns talking about the antenna:rolleyes:

Seriously guys, WWDC is a NERDFEST, and apple knows it. Just because they showed something off to a very select group that would appreciate it DOES NOT MAKE IT THE SELLING POINT.

A little logic around these forums once in a while would be nice.

Looks like Apple is looking to hire experts to improve the antenna on the next revision of the iPhone. For now I'll continue to use my iPhone 4, certainly the best phone on AT&T. It has not been a big issue to hold it in a way that does not cause issue...

You are banging your head against a brick wall.

The typical MacRumors commenter has little common sense and an utter disregard to the basic laws of physics as well as the economics of consumer electronics design, manufacturing, and sales.

A logical commenter is a very rare species in these technology rumor sites.

can't believe it....
c'mon Apple...tell the truth...
where i live 1+1 (Bumper+ New Antenna's staff...)makes 2....
this is the first "slip" on the ..apple....way of Jobs
won't last long..but...som' to think upon...
maybe...
...better to have different guys for the Mac to come...(??)
In the meanwhile i was thinking that I-Os
( it risks to) resemble the back of a donkey...

Actually, 700 Mhz is close to 850 Mhz which ATT uses for HSPA+ so no major redesign required. Remember the iPhone supports 850 / 1900 / 1700 (Japan) / 2100 for HSPA and 850/900/1800/1900 for GSM which this current Antenna supports. I wonder actually if the issue with the antenna is more prevalent when your device is camping on 1900 which is known to provide a much poorer signal based on the same location as a 850 transmitter. In building is especially different, and since ATT offers both frequencies, it could explain why some are seeing it and others aren't.
