Last year's Student Union promo was also valid in Canada, and I believe there was a similar (though not identical) promo in the UK that started in early August. I believe Australia also has a promo like this that is timed for their educational buying season.

Yeah they had it here in Australia, it was buy a qualifying mac and iPod and get AU$200 back i believe (may have been $250 but i cant remember heh...). It finished at the end of March, so it was just a way to get more students to buy a mac rather than a way to clear out inventory I believe. Hey it worked - it made me check out mac's, and even though I don't have one yet i'm completly sold on a MacBook - ordering it when i get paid on wednesday

Just curious, but in Australia, Apple resellers aren't allowed to sell things at an educational discount anymore. To get the discount, you need to buy from Apple's Website directly. Anyone else have this happen to them as well?
Yes, happened to me when I went to get Tiger and a G5. Major suckage :(

Hmmm... I just bought a MBP yesterday. What kind of odds do I have on returning it without a restocking fee and adding a Nano to the ticket?

I don't need a Nano, but I'll be glad to buy one and flip it on Ebay to pay for a little bit of this thing.

It's good that Apple is doing this again. It's great encouragement to any students in the market for a laptop.

Who can resist a free iPod? :D
iCan, 'cause I don't...

hmmm... i was waiting for this (but expecting it to be closer to august -- and hoping that there would be a speedbump or upgrade for the iMac before august)

anyone know about an imac update?

plus -- eh, 179$ towards a video ipod would be nice, wish it was 300$ towards an ipod though =/

That is one ugly website. Some people are so jealous of iPods success it's mind boggling.
But - you mock the site for aesthetics. You don't say that their message is wrong...

Baaaaahhhhh.

No...they just want to sell their own MP3 players. It's a SanDisk web site.

Okay, I was bored...

http://www.apple.com/backtoschool/

See how it jumps to another page... a promo page for education!

It is sooooo coming in the morning.

Not entirely sure...what you're trying to say. That "back to school" section of the web site has existed for years. It's where they put the info on all of the back to school deals. Yes, there will be something new there when the promo goes live, but the current redirects and content aren't indicative of anything.

When I went to purchase a MacBook last week at the campus bookstore, they "strongly hinted" I wait until Monday (I know the folks there). When I asked, they said if I purchased a qualifying Mac and iPod (and the new MacBook does qualify), I'd receive a $179 rebate certificate. I plan to use it toward the current 30 GB iPod, making it only $90 + tax at current academic prices (great, since I only have a 512 MB Shuffle right now!).

Free 4 GB iPod Mini vs. 1-2 GB iPod Nano

Are we getting a better deal?

It's 179 bucks. Same as the edu pricing on the mini IIRC. You can use it towards any iPod, so it is the exact same deal as last year.

Also, I think last time the $999 iBook was excluded. Hopefully they will not do that this time around.

Better yet give it to a family member. Someone is always in need of a gift.

That's exactly what I'll do. I already have a 20gig color iPod. The next one I get would be the rumored touch screen true video one. In the meantime, I'll grab the free Nano and give it to my fiance for her birthday or something.

I also bought a MacBook at edu pricing last week. Does anyone think we'll be able to get them to honor it? I guess we'll see tomorrow.

*crosses fingers*

valid for amazon?

was going to order imac in a month
would these prom valid for amazon purchase?
if not, it does not matter to me then
with the high tax here in SF (8.5%), it is much cheaper to get it tax free + $100 rebate than apple education discount :(

Oh don't get me wrong, their message is pretty stupid to. Not exactly the way I would try to promote my piece of junk by trying to insult millions of people.

It'd be cool if it starts tomorrow, as I'm buying my MBP tomorrow, but I'm not interested in nanos much. I'd probably just sell it and put a nice wad of cash in my pocket if this rumour is true. But as my mom is getting me an ipod shuffle (which I want more than a nano) for my graduation present, I don't care if it's true or not.

I already bought my Macbook, but a $90 30 GB iPod would be worth it for me. It's so exciting. mmmmmmm......:D

EDIT: And by the way, iDont.com is iRidiculous IMO

Oh ho, im pretty excited about this... But its 12.37 right now and no change in Apple's site.... they'll probably do it in the morning.
