So does this work at any Apple reseller, or only through the Apple store? Like, if I show an invoice from Amazon with both the Macbook and the iPod, , will they issue the rebate?

I would think you'd get the rebate coupon at the time of Mac+iPod purchase, and of course the purchase would have to be during the promotion -- i.e., starting Monday 6/5/06 (that's the whole idea).

I remeber last year that it also worked on refreshed ibooks. But will it now work on refreshed/refurbished MBPs??? If so hell yes.

Right, of course, I Just meant if I bought them from Amazon tomorrow, would they honor that, even though it wasn't through Apple's education store. Anyway, I can just wait to read the fine print in the morning : )

Last year's Student Union deal required you to purchase either directly from Apple or through an authorized campus reseller.

Baaaaahhhhh.

You're being sarcastic, right? Please? Say it ain't so, AidenShaw. Say you weren't fooled by a ****** corporate shill website.

This whole anti-iPod "you're all sheep" ******** has gone far enough. It's completely retarded. I'm not in much (if any) danger of being labeled a conformist. My idea of fun is getting high and reading Wikipedia while listening to obscure bootlegs of the Doors that I've arranged at great pains in chronological order. My toenails are roughly as long as John Holmes' penis, my favorite TV show is still Twin Peaks (and I have watched less than 24 hours total of cable television in the past 15 years -- I would bet $100 on this), and I refuse to get a driver's license because I believe that 93% of the drivers out there are deranged cretins, and I simply won't inch it any closer toward 94%. I voted Democrat in the last election, even though I loathe John Kerry for his actions while on the POW/MIA committee (yes, as much as I loathe John McCain's related actions).

Yes, I use iTunes, and my preferred mp3 player is the iPod. My songs are all mp3s, AAC, or ALAC. I don't have any Ogg, WMA, FLAC, Monkey, Wavpack, or Shorten files. I don't feel the need to transfer songs to my iPod from the Finder or Explorer. I don't even feel the need to use my iPod as a portable hard drive -- that's why God provided the miracle of FTP servers, one of which is installed on my utilitarian and un-hip B&W G3.

An iPod doesn't make you a conformist. That is, if you have a double-digit (or, God willing, triple-digit) IQ and don't define yourself in terms of your posessions and purchases. All that these whiny Gen X-inspired wails of outrage inspire in me is the urge to commit mass anal rape with a nail-studded broomstick. Great. Another ****ing marketing ploy for the dismayingly credulous. Just what this country (in general, and the tech industry in particular) needed.

Congratulations; you've made some capitalist somewhere very happy. Evolved beings, however, are crying real tears at this display of shameless idiocy.

Question

I dont know if its been asked already, but Im just wondering if anyone has an idea of how long this promotion will last. Last year I bought my ibook in late july and I got the deal. I hope that it will last through august, and hopefully we get new merom based MBPs.

Last year's promo ran through September 24th in the US.

Yep, she's up, and ThinkSecret, while right about the promo and the date, was off by $29.

Gol-durnit, though, I bought a MBP through the edu store less than a month ago. At least I got a free printer I didn't really need. Just would have been nice to also get a free iPod I didn't need. Oh well, you can't quite have it all.

Oh, and about that ridiculous iSheep business--you can call fashion-concious iPod users sheep if you want, but doing it while shilling for SanDisk is pretty sad. It might actually be worse to buy into an ad campaign encouraging you to go "against the big corporate machine" when that campaign is run by another big corporate machine than to just be a "sheep". And actually, I can chose to buy an iPod on its merits if I want, that doesn't necessarily make me a sheep. Suckering into a paid-for corporate message designed to make you think you're being rebellious by buying their product is just being a sheep of a different color.

How about just buying the product you want based on your preference and calling it a day? Heck, if somebody gave me a free SanDisk player, I'd take it. Might sell it immediately afterword, or not, but free is free.

Oops... they spelt 'Macintosh' as 'Machintosh' on the FAQ page half way down, with three missing images too (UPC labels section). Very un-Apple!

Not available in UK yet.

Are the UK and American promotions independent or is it a sign that it will also be active in the UK very soon?
I'd really like to get a Macbook but I'd be pretty annoyed to order it and then for the promotion to begin a day or two later.

The promotion runs through September and covers WWDC.

I was hoping that the promotion ended sooner so I wouldn't have to wait. Why couldn't you have made this easy on me, Apple?

If they do upgrade the MBP, then even if it doesn't ship until later, the promotion still applies.

from the FAQ:

I purchased a product that will not ship until after the promotion. Do I still qualify for the rebate?

Yes, if you purchased or preordered the eligible product within the promotion period and on the same receipt. In the event that a qualifying product is ordered during the promotion dates and shipped after the end of the promotion, Apple will process these claims if they are postmarked within 30 days of the ship date.

I would imagine they are totally independent. Has it started it Canada?
