am I missing something, or is the rebate form not even up on Apple's site yet?

Go directly to the education store. You'll see this.

EDIT: Okay, reread your post. You're right, the rebate form's nowhere to be found. But that's alright; you need to submit it within 30 days of purchase. They'll get it up by the end of the day, I'm sure.

EDIT2: They have the rebate form in PDF, but the online rebate form is missing.

same deal in JP

They were running (it's over now) basically the same deal here in Japan where the school year begins in April.

Good way to clear out some Nano stock before releasing new ones

But - you mock the site for aesthetics. You don't say that their message is wrong...

Baaaaahhhhh.
iPods have done more for the promotion of diversity in music consumption than anything else I can think of.

 i just missed the offer. i ordered my macbook saturday (yay!), but i would have liked to get in on the free nano offer. i have a 5G ipod, but it would have been nice having a nano during exercise. apple has rules about it, and theres no way i can get a free nano out of this. oh well. i'm still getting a macbook!!!

From reading the FAQ, this looks like a U.S. promotion only.

Can I purchase the qualifying products anywhere?
No, you must purchase at the following locations in the US or the District of Columbia
Also, rebate amounts will vary depending on which iPod ordered. You will get the full $179 if you buy a 2 GB nano or higher, but your rebate goes down if you buy a 1 GB Nano or a shuffle. Once again, this is in the FAQ.

Yep, she's up, and ThinkSecret, while right about the promo and the date, was off by $29.
TS may have been off, but we were dead-on :D

Yes, Yes, Yes, Si, Da, Yes!

This is awesome!

$1199 MacBook (2.0 GHz @ student discount price) +
$90 30GB iPod ($269 student price - $179 discount) =

Happiness!

Nothing like good Apple news on a Monday morning.

Yep, and this probably means that the MB and MBP may not update (with Merom chips) until after Sept. 15th. That is, if apple handles these upgrades like previous years...

A few years back I bought my G4 powerbook on one of these deals (since there were only G3 ibooks). Then the G4 ibooks came out a month or so later.

Hmmm... Seems like October is a popular month for iBook updates:

(although last year it was July: https://www.macrumors.com/pages/2005/07/20050726085148.shtml but this may be an off year with the intel transition...)

And, of course none of this may matter now that Apple's on the Intel timeline. But it is a good timing strategy for them - move inventory for back to school, and then come out with the next model for holiday season. And it also lines up with the Merom chip release in August. ;)

It's still a great deal, but just be ready for the updates to follow it... :D

Not For Teachers

I called them to see if I can get in on this offer since I just bought my MacBook last week. NO! Then she told me it's only for students, not teachers. DAMN!

Does that mean if you were a student they would have let you? I can understand if they don't do a retro thing but it would be nice. I bought the macbook when it first came so I'm sure no matter what that is to long ago.

That is 100% incorrect about the teacher part. Read the FAQ. However, I doubt they'd let you opt-in post-mortem. However, if you bought your Macbook last week, then you could always return it, and then buy it again...

dang it, i wish they would have had something like this going back in january when i got my powerbook. i got a free printer... but would have rather gotten a free ipod. i still need to get one!

Bought my MacBook the day it came out. I just called and they couldn't do anything to give me the new rebate nor could I return the MacBook since it was custom-made. However, the guy did give me a $50 credit back on my card, so at least I got something out of all this. I didn't really need a new iPod anyway...

Retroactive Rebate

Just in case anyone is curious about retroactively becoming eligible for the rebate, I called apple this a.m. having just bought my iMac last tuesday and am still waiting for it to show up. The short answer they simply will not honor the rebate. I pointed out had I not ordered a CTO config I could simply return the computer (having not even opened the box since i have yet to receive it) for a full refund, and just do a new transaction. The apple rep pretty much said "yup that's correct". But as it is, no nano for me. So if any of you have a non-CTO mac and it's unopened you can definitely return it for a full refund and redo the transaction this time buying an iPod and be eligible, but otherwise you're hosed.

seems like a great deals to me, but my question is. depending on what happens at WWDC, i think i'm going to get a 20" imac fully loaded, do you think updates are going to happen in september the day after the promotion is over...?
Do you think the updates will be so much better that i'm going to kick myself or just be like a minor bump from 2 GHZ till like 2.3.?
if the new Powermacs or whatever their going to be called are a lot smaller i might get one instead. I plan on doing *minor* video editing. which leads me to my next question is when will FCS be updated or should i just get whats out now...decisions decisions...
