I just received my first notification from AP News. One thing I'd like is maybe a different background color for the pop up to distinguish it from an SMS alert. I know it's not a problem for me, but I could see it making sense to do so.

I could see it being in a green, not unlike the one used typically for a full battery icon, and just as translucent as the blue. Red might work, but projects a level of severity you might want to leave for warnings.

Can't Apple easily fix this? Seriously? There is space above and below the screen already (also to the left and right), why is Apple not using this space? Why can't they just push the current space all the way up to free some space on the bottom for notifications. They would easily be able to have a streaming notification service on the bottom of the screen that is unobtrusive.

Or why not just add a notifcation bar just like the bar that pops up when you are tethering or on a phone call?

This would be a perfect place for notifications to appear. If the top is a bad place, just move it to the bottom.

It seems like Apple could easily combat this without making it a problem. The pop up notifications just seems like too much. A notification bar that streams/pushes notifications too it just makes too much sense.

Was someone filming it as you were chased by the undead rabies victims?

When I first read that.. I thought you said undead babies... they go right for the nipple.. ow..

Some antivirus/antispam vendors share the "quarantine" name for their spam folders. It sounds cooler than "spam folder" anyways..

But back to something more on topic, is it just me or are the app updates on the actual phone seem to be showing up without having to visit the app store first? Apple pushing them out now?

I'm in Canada, I installed the AP app last night, I just received the first notification this afternoon. Seems to be working well so far, but this app is not very smooth at times.

Can anyone comment about badge icons for this app. What does the badge icon indicate? How does the app clear the badge icons? etc...

Yes. That's perfect. Have it slide down, stay for a while then slide back up. Also offer the option of keeping the notification there until touched.

The question I have with the current setup is: What if I receive multiple notifications from different apps? Will they pile up? Will the last one close the first? Will there be a summary of notifications?

It's such an obvious problem that I'm sure Apple is aware of the conflict and is working on a solution.

dont think its a quarunteen/junk issue.
i use my .me account with the mail app and my iphone.. no email at all.

damn you apple... damn you all to hell!!haha

The way i would envisage apple going is that at somepoint, the iphone will be able to be personalised just like you can personalise os x..

however i see this being WAY off!!

I've been wanting something like that for OSX ever since I saw the "remember password" notification in Firefox. It just slides down from the top of the window. If only OSX had a feature like that which pushed the menubar down and was an eyecatching color. When using software update or while installing something I get really sick of the BAM! nature of those fooking warnings.

Push sucks battery life

So I signed up to the push testing..

before the testing I was easily getting around 20 hours battery life. After installing Apples test application I'm lucky if I get 10 hours!!

Anyone else seeing the same?

I've had to turn off notification for the moment. If this is the effect of push I can do without it!

It's to be expected. It's likely to be no different than turning on email push. For some people and their location, it works fine. For others, it's impossible to use.

So if push email eats battery for you now, the notification service will do the same.

Apple might have to come up with an optional timed "fetch switch" for PNS to use in place of push.
