Hmm.. I do notice that in my country the remote is named "Apple TV Remote with Touch" and not "Siri Remote". I also notice it got the model number MG2Q2 compared to MLLC2 in the US. The dual-microphones and Siri is no where to be seen in the details for the actual Apple TV, nor is it mentioned in the details for there remote itself if you try to purchase one standalone. But on the US Store both Siri and the microphones are mentioned both places.

Same in the netherlands... i ordered the 64GB anyway, hoping we will eventually get the siri functionality via a software update.

i'll be annoyed if they will force us to buy a siri remote somewhere down the road for 90 euro or something ugh.

i don't mind if it only understands english, i use the english siri on all my devices anyway. but atleast give us the option to select it...

I doubt that your non-purchase is gonna matter one iota to him. But I just love how you suggest that it does matter. He's put out some great iPhones and made the screens larger....something JOBS refused to do. The iPhone is STILL outselling Samsung's nonsense phones. I will go on record saying how wrong you are.
Let me guess, you also think 16GB is enough on a phone that records 4K video and 5400rpm hard drive on a $2k desktop is justifiable?

thanks. I'll look into this tonight. Do you know if there are any limitations? In otherwords, will I have issues with maintaining 5.1 surround sound or will it be 2 channel?

The new one actually does 7.1

Would you be happy with an iPhone 1 today? It does all the basic stuff.

Eventually, you get left out of new services and apps that only work on new hardware. You might not know that you wanted these new things until you start using them and vow to never go without them.

For example, you use Netflix. The original AppleTV still works but doesn't have Netflix. Would you have been happy with that? You couldn't use Netflix before. Why would you want it now?

Once the new AppleTV is out, your local channels are going to start offering apps with their content. You won't be able to use them on the AppleTV 3. Apple itself is probably planning its own Netflix style service with unlimited access to content for a monthly fee. You'll be left out of that too.

That's the thing. With every single iPhone, Mac, iPad, et al. release, I have found the new releases to be great. Even with the previous iteration apple TV's, they were great as well. This one in particular, just isn't. A bunch of superfluous features and ugly box redesign. I don't want apps on my TV beside HBO Go, Netflix, Mac Connectivity, Airplay, Screen Savers, Photos. The TV is to host parties, stream music, stream videos, pretty much all I ever intend to use it for. But I am sure other's usage may vary.

No, I sincerely don't like the direction they went with it. I don't like the new design or features. Superfluous, is the term to me. It is not just a passing thing. I don't like the design or features of the new one. Who on earth really plans to play games on this thing?

Fair enough if you don't want to use anything but iTunes library streaming and don't care about 3rd party content providers apps or Apple music.

Ugly box design? Its the same but 12mm taller. I guess you don't like the Airport Extreme and time capsules either because they are taller than the Apple TV 2,3 and airport express.

For those of you who are tempted to upgrade to 64 GB, but are hesitant about the price, you can effectively reduce the cost of the upgrade to only $36 by waiting an extra 8-11 days and ordering the new Apple TV from B&H Photo, where you don't have to pay tax unless you are ordering from within New York. Free expedited shipping through B&H, so you'll get it pretty quick. And the $14 saved in tax (approximate) goes toward the cost of the 64 GB upgrade...

I can definitely wait. As I believe this new ATV will not be all that of a upgrade.
I' sure I will turn it on for 20 minutes to check out the UI and turn it off until I wanna stream the same thing I can already stream on 5 other devices.

Although, I have given all 3 of my ATV's away in the last couple years, it will be welcoming to have a ATV once again.

Didn't go and read all posts, so please excuse me if this was already asked and answered:
can we use a PS3 or PS4 controller with the new Apple TV?

You might want to read up on 4K content. http://blog.streamingmedia.com/2015/01/4k-streaming-bandwidth-problem.html

http://bgr.com/2013/09/26/netflix-4k-streaming/

It's marketing hype through and through. With the way ISP's cap everyone and how they do not upgrade their infrastructure, can you imagine millions of people streaming that much data? Let alone, how much overages there would be? 4K has not been thought out, not standardized and right now, is just another way for companies to "cash in" on the consumer. If you want to invest in that technology, by all means - do it.

However, Apple is smart for not putting that feature in the ATV. It's not proven, it's not standard and it's not even close to commercialized. A couple of companies like Amazon and Netflix don't qualify for "commercialized".

I'll stick with 1080p for now and will enjoy it thoroughly. Blu-ray 4K will be nice because well, it's physical media, not streaming so it will have no problems with adoption, when the standard is implemented. I will purchase them and when I get a 4K tv, I will be ready. I am pretty sure it will be backwards compatible with 1080p sets as well. Maybe? I don't know because these companies like to scheme and lock you out, forcing you to upgrade. So who knows.

State of the art means the best devices, technology, software and content. If it's not supported, it's just an expensive gadget. :)

So you don't like the product because it has features that you don't want to use...

?

Hmm..

I tend to look at products and judge them based on what I do want to use them for...
But maybe I'm weird..

You know, legally you are still required to pay taxes (assuming you live in a state that has to pay st) - you should pay them latest when you do your state income tax return. That businesses that do not operate in your state don't charge taxes does not mean you don't have to pay it. Yes I know, most people don't care and won't pay them ... but they should.

At least this is the case in PA, I assume it is true for other states too ...

Good grief.

I've ordered mine in Switzerland and I was quite annoyed to find out about this restriction. I'm hoping it will be a software update away... I'm reassured to at least see here: https://forums.developer.apple.com/thread/17228 that an Apple employee has specified it is the exact same hardware that will be shipped, so fingers crossed!

Unfortunately no. Only controllers that are part of Apple's MFi program will work with the Apple TV. So, mostly controllers that work with iOS devices. The new SteelSeries Nimbus, that was made specifically for the Apple TV, is on sale at the Apple Store starting today.

I guess it will be available as a software update in the future.
But I find it annoying to be unable to configure Siri in English in the meantime just because I don't have a UK/USA account.
I wonder if we'll be able to use iPhone or iPad to input text instead of using the onscreen keyboard

where i can find the accesories for tv like siri remote or loop etc?
That's a joke, right? Please tell me that "securing" a remote via Lightning Connector is a ridiculous joke!

Oh, my! **** me hard!

http://www.apple.com/shop/product/MLFQ2AM/A/remote-loop

It's NOT a joke! WTF!!!
Agreed. Simply Mind Baffling.

The wrist loop is ******* over priced. But I'd rather pay $14 dollars for the wrist strap than murder my $9,000 4KTV with the remote.

Let me guess, you also think 16GB is enough on a phone that records 4K video and 5400rpm hard drive on a $2k desktop is justifiable?

Not everyone cares about 4K yet. Does everyone have a monitor/TV that will be 4K? Another reason why I think AppleTV is not 4K. Even though hardware wise it can play/stream it. If space is an issue, it can set to 1080p. People who really want to record in 4K can get the higher storage space options.

A 5400 Hard drive is perfectly acceptable for business/enterprise which I believe what it is targeting for a lower price point.

ordered mine! feels so expensive in Canada - with applecare and taxes it's $336, luckily I have a gift card from a returned iPhone 6. :D

Can't wait till there's a Songza App and a Plex app, I'll add those to my daily photos, netflix and radio usage!

It seems like the dual-microphones is only available in selected countries. That's rather dumb, isn't it? Especially as the remote features the same price with as it does without the microphones. Apple does not mention anything about the lack of Siri and microphones, they simply decides to not mention anything about it at all and all the product pictures clearly shows the remote with a microphone button and a hole for the microphone on the top.

This is some really poor information from Apple right here. I do not expect to use the Siri portion of the Apple TV much, but they should be able to tell us whether it's included or not. I suppose one could always import a second remote from the correct countries, but comeon..
This was first mentioned back in early September. 5 languages in 8 countries get the Siri remote:

Hi guys
I have ordered 2 and live in Denmark. But am a bit confused about the remote, and get a different answer every time a read an article og reply about it :) Can you guys confirm that:
1. the remote (hardware wise) is the same all over the world?
2. the only difference is in software, meaning what happen when you click the siri button
3. that if you live in denmark and have us iTunes account, then you can use the remote the same way as people in america can, meaning with SIRI ?

Thank you in advance

LOL $2000 is a lower price point? Give me a break. Apple apologists are getting weak with their arguments now I see.

Golly, that some available configurations do not satisfy _your_ needs is not necessarily grounds for condemnation.
Strange how many people think that if they're not among the intended audience for a product, that product shouldn't exist and should be ridiculed until it doesn't.

That 4K capable camera defaults to 1080p. You don't have to record 4K if you don't want to. You don't have to record _any_ video if you don't want to. That the camera is capable of 4K doesn't mean it should be physically downgraded to a less-capable component just because some people don't want to pay for more than 16GB (yes, some are content to buy a small-storage phone and use it for a few applications other than videography). Cloud-based Photos means you don't have to store it all locally on-device, it will upload it to elsewhere for you. If you want more storage for your 4K videos, then you're free to pay more to get more storage.

If that 5400rpm drive is sufficiently responsive (and :apple: is very good at making limited hardware very responsive precisely because they control the walled garden) and the desktop computer otherwise serves one's needs, why pay more for a faster drive? Some people's use cases don't require a fast drive. If you need better performance, you can pay for it.
