Nice reference article from 2013 - LOL - yeah, you are a go-to guy for state-of-the-art info.

Again, hardware is there, the standards are there, the content is there and available - I streamed the "Rock" in "San Andreas" in 4K from VuDu on a RoKu 4, 2 nights ago, passed thru a 4K HDCP 2.2 receiver. Looked spectacular on a large LG ultra screen. All the pieces are available to the consumer. It is time to put 2013 behind you.

Not everyone cares about 4K yet. Does everyone have a monitor/TV that will be 4K? Another reason why I think AppleTV is not 4K. Even though hardware wise it can play/stream it. If space is an issue, it can set to 1080p. People who really want to record in 4K can get the higher storage space options.

A 5400 Hard drive is perfectly acceptable for business/enterprise which I believe what it is targeting for a lower price point.

seriously - 5400 is acceptable in 2015 for what exactly, maybe storing video security footage?
NOT for anything where the company takes pride in what they put forward.

Frankly, this company should grow some balls and lead the way little - yes 4K.

I don't suppose we've heard much about what apps will be available in the AppleTV App store for launch?
of particular interest: Plex, Google Play/Video, Flixster, (XBMC/Kodi client), etc...

I'm totally excited for this AppleTV.. but I can't help but still think in the back of my mind that I wish Apple had also made a version/option with the A9x and some more RAM in it. I would have immediately pre ordered several of those. But for now I'll save up some extra money and see how the new Apple TV compares.
Plex will be available on day one from what I read.

The wrist loop is ******* over priced. But I'd rather pay $14 dollars for the wrist strap than murder my $9,000 4KTV with the remote.

Haha, don't get the wrist strap PLEASE because the entertainment provided by the post you make after destroying your TV will be utterly priceless. :)

Clearly you didn't read the first one or anything at all. Lol.

No sense talking about it further with you. Enjoy your setup bro! :D

Oh, and enjoy the 12 movies on Vudu that are in 4K! :p

I'll enjoy the 1080p goodness all over without having to spend an excessive amount of money for a marketing ploy.

Let me guess, you also think 16GB is enough on a phone that records 4K video and 5400rpm hard drive on a $2k desktop is justifiable?

I so much agree with this, and I've been Apple for many a year. Apple is just the master of the Nickel & Dime business model and everyone who is in the Apple Ecosystem is aware of and just accepts it, I guess..

Let me guess, you want to force those people (*) who rarely or never take photos or videos with their iPhones nor store much data on their Macs to pay more up front? Or maybe you want to price out casual users who can barely afford a Mac as it is, and force them to buy some cheaper Microsoft/Dell cruft instead of a iPhone or Mac with more or faster storage? Why don't you take your money out of your own bank account and donate it to these people?

(*) Corporate buyers. Locked down kiosks. People buying for the easier-to-use software and the style, not the hardware specs.

Learnt my own answer from Apple

Choose between 32GB or 64GB of storage.
If you plan to use your Apple TV primarily to stream films, TV programmes and music, or to play a few apps and games, you’ll probably be fine with 32GB of storage. If you plan to download and use lots of apps and games, choose the 64GB configuration.1 Keep in mind when making your decision, that some apps, when in use, do require additional storage.

I always advise people to go one level up on the storage they think they need, especially if you cannot add more later.

Apple rarely goes into a market quickly, until it matures. With a few exceptions, like Thunderbolt or USB 2. Does the iTunes store even have enough content to even offer 4K yet? Such as this:

That is part of it, but I also Just use it exactly how the 3rd gen was. Just a link to my Mac really. But, I am sure that others will use all of the app store and gaming and all of that, I just sincerely would not use any of it and I know that. 3rd gen was perfection for how I plan to use it.
the new Apple TV has AC wifi, which the 3rd gen didnt - if you want to stream and link to your comp - that alone is a big reason to upgrade. That is of course if you don't have AC router...which again means you are getting less than minimal returns on your preference.

Got my 64GB ordered, considered the 32GB but would rather have the extra & not need or use it than get the 32GB then discover could have done with the extra storage :)

I can't wait for the App Store the get going. Then we'll really get a sense of what this new unit can do. A little disappointed that BBC and other UK terrestrial content owners have not announced native apps. All of them have iOS apps, it's quite ridiculous.

question, can I buy this with iTunes gift cards? Today you can get $100 for $75... can I use online or in the store?

Edit: Well just tried and see this
  • Pay with up to eight gift cards
  • iTunes Gift Cards cannot be used for Apple Store purchases

Crap but I think can be done in store

Anybody holding off to get it in the store using apple pay for the discover 10% back?

I actually opened a new Discover account last month, so I get that doubled to 22%! 2*(10%+1%) But, yes, I'm waiting to for this to be in the store!
